      And you can combo it until full Level 3 for some nasty damage, like 63% IIRC. The second OD Jinrai has to cancel into the medium follow up into the final thrust kick follow up which can be cancelled into level 3 if you want the max damage.

    Hey Rush! I have a question, you know me, I've been a serious Ken main for 4 years now, I don't really have problems with execution and every tutorial you show I can replicate it easily, but I can't really incorporate new tech to my gameplay, like optimal punishes for every situation or for example the punish you do at 1:32, labbed that hitconfirm a lot and I can do it easily, but I don't have awareness to use it in a real match, how do I start adding new tech to my gameplan? is it time? or I have to force myself to do it?

    • @KusanagiMotoko100
      @KusanagiMotoko100 Před 3 měsíci

      for example at 3:11 you straight whiff punish Ryu's cr.HK with st.HPxxSuper 1, despite having the resources to cancel into Drive Rush and do a longer combo (that's would I would do wasting bar), did you just reacted that way or you thought beforehand about punishing his sweep with st.HK to level 1?

    • @RushG
      @RushG  Před 3 měsíci +1

      So any new tech you've learned and labned you do need to force the use of these strategies into your play even if it doesn't feel good / feels uncomfortable. In doing so you built real match muscle memory.
      The CR MK into OD fireball can be replaced with CR MK DRC in all honesty. I use the OD fireball though to save the Drive Bar on block but then the DRC whilst more bar does net you a free mixup from the plus frames.
      The whiffed Sweep from Ryu, I had already committed to pressing Stand HP at that range. My timing was perfect so seeing it whiff allowed me to hit confirm into super. Stand HP alone is hit confirmable anyways so it's not a difficult conversion if you're ready for it.
      It's all about spacing, knowing what you want and knowing what the opponent may do. It's not an exact science as there are many variables but if you see an opportunity, with time you learn to make the most of it
      Keep pushing to add these things to your play, use lobbies and battle hub to get games as a place to train them

    • @metalgeartrusty
      @metalgeartrusty Před 3 měsíci

      Overly force it, even if you lose. You would rather implement the new tech, than win the round. Thats the key to getting better.
      “Born free” has a vid on this, but yea its basically pick one new tech, and focus on using it the whole day. So the feeling of winning happens when you use the new tech in match, not when you win. Literally pop off if you have to (everyone is different). Force force force. Prioritize the new tech above winning.

    5:02 This is a perfect example of a reaction that people seem to think is only possible with Modern controls. In the right scenario there are certain things thatt your opponent is likely to do. If you are aware of these things and you are prepared for them, you can easily react. Such as here. You knew she was likely to do so you were ready with the Level 1 on react. Some people will try to say it wasn't a react and was a good read, and yes, you did read the opponent, but to say it was only a read is implying that you would have done the level 1 even if she didn't do that move, which is not the case. I get into arguments on Reddit about this stuff, people think it's impossible for me to react to a Hadoken and DP through it the moment I see the blue glow of Ryu or Ken's hands, but I do it all the time. They say it's not possible for me to react to Luke's arm going behind his head as he's about to throw a sandblast.They say It's just me getting lucky, which is bullshit. We are reacting to our opponents doing a move that we expect them to do. Do say it's impossible to react to these things is to say it's impossible to react to DI.

    • @yeyeande
      @yeyeande Před 2 měsíci

      But it's not a raw reaction most of the time, it's prediction. Obviously in the context of the game your opponent is going to do SOMETHING, so predicting the exact move with the right read and answer correctly is definitely a skill but it's also generally not humanly possible to pure react to less than 16-17 frame moves.
      In this case it was a safe prediction based on good game sense coupled with solid reaction speed. There's absolutely nothing threatening a Lily can do standing at mid to far range BUT medium/heavy condor spire. She had wind and meter so it was faster start-up, but there's no other play she had at that range, so it was a pretty simple read. An even better prediction would have been for her to do a light spire to bait his super and then punish, but maybe she was afraid of run stop DP clipping her anyway or getting dragonlashed or DR stuffed or any number of things.

    • @RushG
      @RushG  Před 2 měsíci

      It's not a read, youre reacting to movement.
      I'm looking for the start of of a move and I'm focusing on a specific input to counter their move. I knew against the Lily they condor spire was coming. As soon as I saw the start up I'm committed to doing super.
      If the opponent jumps or dashes I will probably be more open to those approaches as I'm not focused on them.
      I've been doing this sort of stuff since SFV and I can remember any time where I was baited into doing super. That's because I'm rejecting to a specific thing before doing super

    • @yeyeande
      @yeyeande Před 2 měsíci

      @@RushG Brother, you're describing a read. If you're reacting to any condor start-up, if she did light at that range you get baited. But she didn't, so you predicted that she would commit to kill instead of baiting.

    • @RushG
      @RushG  Před 2 měsíci

      Read back what you just said. That's still a reaction, but falling for a bait, it's not classed as a read.
      A read suggests that I did something assuming an action - "I just did super because I expected condor spire"
      In this instance I saw a condor spire before I input anything. If it was a light version then they baited me but I still reacted.

  • @jadak100
    @jadak100 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Damn rush, wish I was as good as you. I've been improving little by little, but I always fall back by using the same tactics and combos in my matches even though I spend hours labbing new stuff from you or other ken players, it is very frustrating because I really want to reach master rank one day.
    Do you or any other ken players out there have any idea in how to break this cycle?. Because I think is one of main things that hold me back

    • @RushG
      @RushG  Před 3 měsíci +5

      There's two routes you can take, you can either bulldoze your way to master by spamming raw drive rush / HK Dragonlash / Jinrai pressure. You'll eventually get Master this way but you won't have learned anything in the process
      The other approach to get master is to stick to a simple and solid gameplan:
      - Solid anti air solutions (DP / CR HP / jump back jab air to air)
      - Some common punished for match ups (the Ken mirror for example, Ken's Stand MK and HK are both -5 on block and punishable if mis-spaced, check raw HK Dragonlash with a jab to get an air juggle)
      - Some level of confidence on the ground to whiff punish your opponent if they're throwing out buttons mindlessly.
      - optimal punishes, this is worth getting into your muscle memory as it will allow you to get the round / game quicker as you'll hit harder
      - Meter management, this game requires you to both manage your / your opponents drive meter. AND make decisions around drive meter, based on tendancies, situations and player tendancies.
      For the longest time I avoided using parry because of the risk of being thrown, when you have the life to take the gamble where it would be advantageous to get a perfect parry, as an example its worth the gamble

      @@RushG thanks rush, truly. I'll take your advice at heart and try to structure my game plan from zero again. Even though you haven't seen my matches, you did nail the head of some of my problems, I'll take my time in order to build better habits even though that costs me some matches, but then again, that's the name of the game.
      Thanks again, and keep being awesome

    • @RushG
      @RushG  Před 3 měsíci +2

      NP, take it one step at a time. Don't try to restructure everything in one go
      My approach in SFV was to master something new and moved to the next thing. Same goes for changing a habit, focusing on mastering the change of the habit before the next addition. You'll get there with time and discipline 👊
