Yesterday I watched Family Search video recommending that you don’t add living people to Family Search. I was thinking that was odd, because I believe FS asks everyone to add themselves, their parents and grandparents.

Great question!! FamilySearch has records that have been made available by record custodians according to laws applicable from where the records came from.
Some countries have laws that don't allow records to be made available until 100 years have passed since the birth of the person or only if records confirming the person's death are also available. These laws do not apply to all countries.
So, yes, there are record collections available that contain information about living people within FamilySearch. It is important to note that we care for the privacy and safety of the people that use our services. 🌳
