- Contrite prayer can be an act of courage, because Lord knows there’s no harder time to pray than after we know we’ve sinned. In a way, we’re afraid to approach God. Yet, just as the only way to overcome our fears is by facing them, the only way to overcome our sin is by going to God after we sin. In this video, Fr. Mike Schmitz explains how God wants a relationship with us and “will cleanse us from every wrongdoing” to build that relationship.

I was raised a devout muslim. Then I became an atheist and then a Christian (but I was not going to church and I investigated the faith all by myself) but this man was very influential for me and I finally got the courage to go to a church a week ago and now I am returning from my first RCIA class. God bless you father.
And the best thing is that my class is 20 people from all ages and colors and genders so it is very cosy and everyone is so Christ like and so nice to me. (Especially our nuns)

Yes Yes Yes! If you're in mortal sin definitely pray. When I first became Roman Catholic I was shacked up with my girlfriend. And I was praying the rosary everyday before I went to work. While praying the Hail Marys, I was subconsciously having a conversation with myself it went something like this...
"Is this really working?"
"Should I really be praying to Mary and not God?"
I continued praying and felt ashamed and sorrowful over my sins. I asked myself, "What gives me the right to call on the help of The Mother Of God while I'm living in mortal sin?"
And this image of Our Lady came to my mind. Clothed in white. And standing on the clouds with stars twinkling around her.
And Our Lady spoke. Not in a voice of judgement. But in a voice of love and compassion.
Our Lady softly and tenderly told me, "It's ok. It's ok to talk to me. Tell me everything. I will pray for you." Our lady touched my heart so deeply on that morning commute. Should you pray in a state of mortal sin? Absolutely!
This made me cry. I pray that one day I may be able to live free of mortal sin.

Sococomfort22 S You have been brainwashed by a church who practically deifies a human being. You do know that Maryology is totally against what the Bible says and that the Catholic Church decided she was born without sin, that she didn’t die, that she was a perpetual virgin and that she was assumed into heaven. All of these not true.
I was in grave mortal sin. It was so bad I thought I was going to die. I really did. It felt like my body and mind was in torture. I cried and lamented. I yelled at God in pain. I’d lay in bed at night and I could only say “Jesus I love You. Holy Spirit I love You. Through Jesus, God I love you.” Then I’d cry myself to sleep. I had a very bad thing to confess but I didn’t know how to put what I did into words. Finally I went to adoration. I sat there quietly in front of Jesus. All the sudden big white letters floated up in my mind. It was a description of what to say to the Priest in confession because I wasn’t smart enough to know what I did, but I knew it was bad. I went to confession two days later. It was like something physically came out/off of me. I was so tired afterwards I had to stay in bed all day.
Soon after that I confessed something almost as bad and I just kept dumping all my sins out in the confessional.
I look back now and I realize GOD led me by my heartstrings, back into a state of Grace. I go to confession a lot now.
I’d rather die than offend Him in such a way. I’m so afraid of hurting Him because He is deserving of ALL my love. I am not the same person I was 3 years ago and I DO NOT EVER WANT TO GO BACK, SO HELP ME GOD.
God is LOVE and Mercy in His Essence.
You have to return the same to Him to be in full communion with Him. Read the catechism!!! Listen to EWTN. Read lots of Saints books. Praise God even in your pain. Hand God everything.

Being a grumpy old man, and also an old school cradle Catholic, it took a while to get used to this priest's sometimes zany, quirky approach to the Faith. But that has changed. Thank you Fr. Mike for your unique and profound approach to Evangelize, to bring people closer to God!!!

I dreaded confession. I’d gone over 25 yrs since my last time, always made the excuse that I could repent in my prayers... I finally went. It was so worth it, and I felt like I did something that God deserved but that benefited me. Praise Jesus ❤

Only Catholics go to confession. Why is that?
25 years that’s a long time, but I went back after 50 years. It wasn’t that I set out to neglect religion Catholicism everything that I have been taught circumstances changed . before I knew it I was so far away. I didn’t know you could come back. During the pandemic, I watched mass on television I watched that was said by a Cardinal. it was 28 minutes and it’s over and all I knew was that I wanted more. I had been seriously thinking about going and talking to someone about returning to the Catholic Church. What I had to do if I could do it someone who I am extremely close to asked me if I wanted to go to adoration and confession during lent. The right question at the right time. Yes, I’ll go. She told me when it was and I said OK started working up with the priest my confession said my Greatest Hits I’m sure the people that were behind me that I was a mass murderer. We finished I did my active contrition he had given me penance and he absolve me and I was walking away. He said get back over here, and I said yes he goes sometime in these 50 years you’ve received haven’t you and I said yes, he said that that’s not really a good thing so then we had to wipe that off the books. And from the following Sunday on I never missed mass except twice and now this is the third week I haven’t been able to go. I am sick. I do the virtual front pew with
Fr.Mike. Hopefully next Sunday I’ll get to go back after I see the doctors I have thyroid cancer we just have to see where else it decided to go. So now the fact that it is only 3° I am not allowed to leave my apartment. Three weeks to be in the same apartment is hard I have everything I could possibly need I can make anything I possibly want to eat. But I don’t have that feeling that I get when I am in my church and I can’t wait to get back to that, yes go to confession after 25 years. Then go to mass that Sunday and be in grace 9:11 so you can receive. The feeling that you will get will be unbelievable there isn’t anything like it. I hope you experience it soon. Peace be with you.

I remember being told that when you're in a state of mortal sin God cuts you off and doesn't hear your prayers until you go to confession. I think I was told this in Catholic school or CCD and it scared me and made me sad. And sometimes I'd pray anyway and say "I don't know if You're listening but..." I think deep down I knew God was listening despite what I was told. I'm glad I was right :)

***** Well, there is a reason why the Catholic Church teaches that. It's been like that since the Early church fathers till this day with Catholicism. Some people say its a sin to confess to people other than God. Rightfully so, but the problem here is that people misunderstand the Catholic faith. People these days (mostly Protestants) say that Catholics pray to Priests other than God. That is truly false, just switch it the other way around. But in order for Mortal sins to be forgiven, you will need the Guidence (Key Word Here for ALL CATHOLIC teachings) of Jesus Priests (Who imitate him like we all try to do, but we constantly fail at times😕)
I think a lot of Catholics learned a simplified children's version of the Faith. Father is not teaching something new, he's teaching more clearly and more completely.
A lot of Catholic Teachers take teaching Doctrine into their own hands.
There are many reasons why I converted to Catholicism, one was the healing power of confession. Some other Christians say talk directly to God but I have found confession with a priest to also be so healing. Thank you for being a priest and I'm so grateful for priest who care about " His flock."

At the Protestant churches that I have attended, the pastoral staff always made themselves available to speak with parishioners struggling with an ongoing sin or having doubts that they can be forgiven at all for a particular sin. The church was always available to walk along side them.
Unless that priest is a pedofile. Many of them ran parishes and confessed people. Hopefully a good one, like most of them are, can do a good job.
@@paulsmallwood1484 but as a “Protestant” myself we do not really emphasize confessing our sins to each other. I don’t think having a priest is biblical, but we should be confessing our sins to someone as the Bible instructs us to. I think this is why there is so much sickness in the church. We usually overemphasize Grace & just sweep all sin under the rug. Grace should be the reason we CAN confess our sins. Not the reason we ignore them. Especially if habitual. We have a serious gluttony problem no one is talking about.

I'm very blessed. In my hometown, there is confession, Mass, and Adoration 7 days a week.

"In the moment .... let him love you." And that's where it really hit me. I have always felt like that when I'm in mortal sin, that God will not hear me anymore. That I am literally separated from him until I go to confession. I let myself be convinced that God will not love me in my mortal sin, even when I try and turn back to him. I feel like I don't deserve it, that I deserve punishment for my sin. Thank you Father, this is the answer to my prayer today.
God did all things for your peace, salvation and unto eternal life. How much you choose to put Christ on is up to you.
Once you are Baptised into Christ, it's then a daily putting on of Him and divesting yourself of the old man.

The medicine of repentance is bitter to our flesh but sweeter than honey to our soul. My spiritual Father adapts the medicine of the sacraments for my specific needs as do all Orthodox, but the life they offer in exchange is the Holy Spirit.

God protected me tonight.
I have a 36ish Minute walk from home to work, it was very dark out and I was alone walking home. I didn’t have my coat and it was under 30°. My hands were red and i was so scared that i would be attacked. I followed the churches and prayed during my walk, repeating “Lord have Mercy, Christ have Mercy”. I asked God to send me a guardian angel, to protect and guide me home. Not only did I see city workers and police out and about right after I prayed for a guardian angel, but I wasn’t spoken to. At all by anyone. It was safe.
God will protect you, all you have to do is ask!
A few months ago I started praying the rosary.
I didn't actually have one but was using a Spotify Playlist.
I recently ordered and received one for myself (I got my wife a heirloom rosary for Christmas that i want to start a tradition of passing down through the daughters) and tonight, in honor of the resurrection of our Lord, I prayed through all four mysteries.
Then this video found me.

Father, can I ask for prayers right now? I'm struggling with some heavy emotions. I was a victim of assault as a child. I'm writing my story because I feel internally it's what God would like me to do in order to help other people. Yet, it feels so hard. All the trauma that I experienced is resurfacing as I look back. Yes, speaking of trauma can be really painful. Going to a therapist can be helpful to reduce the pain and discomfort of writing. It can also give you new insights. Hugs

Just know that God loves you so much and He waits for you in the confessional. Also, for a piece of motivation, every time you go to mass one of the things that happens is after the consecration, all the angels in heaven are present and are singing that God has come down to earth yet again humbling himself and calling us there, that's why He gave us the Mass and that's why He wants us there, so we can see Him both in our earthly lives but also in Eternal Life!! Deus benedicat!!!

Try saying the chaplet of divine mercy. Google st Faustina and chaplet of divine mercy. Make a difference in the world by praying for others and the dying. Lift yourself to look at what you can do for others. You don't even need to leave your house to be a saint. Pray for others, pray for the holy souls in purgatory. You can do it, you will have joy instead of depression when you help others

This is so helpful for me as I’m feeling God draw me back to the Catholic Church. Confession as a sacrament was always something I struggled to understand as a practicing Catholic, and I thought being in a state of mortal sin meant I was totally cut off from God. I didn’t think he heard me or even remembered me until I confessed. Confession for me was purely fear-based, but now understanding that it’s a gift from God puts things into perspective for me. And it’s especially comforting to know he still loves and hears us while we’re in a state of mortal sin. Thank you for this great resource!

I lost my mom when I was 16 and my dad and Grandma got me in to arrange marriage when I was turning 18 I tried but it only lasted one year it was mentally abusive I remember I used to cry to god every day thinking god doesn’t love me anymore because of I couldn’t be in the marriage forever . One night I cried ,prayed and went to sleep Jesus came to me in my dream with Two angels 👼 ware from his right and left side and one off the angel came close to me and told me I shouldn’t worry.
I will never forget it next day I called a friend and asked do you think normal person can see Jesus in his dream? And she told me yes but that person is blessed. From that moment I got hope and I know wherever I go he is with me 🙏 god is good always 🙏🙏
I am not a Catholic. I was raised in a Very conservative Baptist Church. My home was in front of the Parsonage and right across from the Church. I attended 3-5 times a week until I was 17. My Pastor retired. Our Church went through 4 Pastors in 2 years. I moved and left for college just a bit later . I'm 45 now. I'm desperately trying to find a way back to The Church . I've been unhappy with the church's I have attended . I feel something is missing. I do pray everyday , several times a day sometimes. I have over the past few months been drawn to the teachings of the a Catholic church. I do not know how to explain it . I've been gleaning information from Church sites online, such as this , The Vortex, several others.
However , having no background in Catholicism , I am at a crossroads as how to continue forward.
I only know that the Heavenly Father , Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit has been working upon my heart to rekindle a closer relationship . I sorely need to. it

I spent over 20 years in good non-denominational churches, but our Lord led my wife and I back to the Catholic Church of our youth through a number of things, but particularly a deeper study His Word, the earliest Christian writings and Christian apologetics. There are certainly many, many great resources, but a particular favorite of mine is "The Case for Jesus" by Dr. Brant Pitre. Dr. Pitre beautifully explains aspects of prophecy and the Gospels that we found both fascinating and encouraging.

One of the aspects I seem to find amiss in so many Christian organizations or Churches today is a lack of knowledge and "will to study". There seems to be a lack of reverence. I can appreciate some of the thought behind making religion more accessible to every human being, as it should be. It just seems hollow sometimes, or Saccharine. Thank you again
If there is a Catholic church where you live, call them up and ask about RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a program that takes a few months; I think meetings are a couple times a month. At the end of the program you will be received into the church, receiving the Holy Eucharist! I pray there are good people where you live to help you along the way.
Bre Hans , Thank you so very much for your response and assistance. I will check in on that. My husbands employers are very wonderful devout Catholic . I will try to spend some time with her and ask what a good church would be close to me. I will also try to update on my journey , to where I should have always been. :)
It may also help to have a faithful Catholic friend that you could confide in to help you with your journey through prayer, answering questions, guiding you to resources, etc. If you don't have a local Catholic friend, let me know and I'd be happy to start a "pen pal" type of relationship with you. I've never done this before, but maybe it could work! Peace...

I’ve fallen away from my Catholic faith for 5 years and as each year passed I felt worse, I feel such guilt. I never stopped praying and I love JESUS so much but felt so unworthy. True! I started praying the Rosary when I was still in mortal sin and one day I was free of these, uh, desires? and I've always quit everything that would feed that beast and I've never been happier! The Rosary can really make miracles in a sinner's life.

8 days ago on google I read about being in mortal sin and prayers not being heard because of it. When I read this my heart broke and I cried my eyes out.
I always prayed for grace. A lot of my prayers appeared to me to have been answered back then and I questioned whether my imagination had played tricks on me because of what I read on google.
I stopped saying the rosary that I had started a month ago because of what I read on "google answers". I felt that it was in vain since the Blessed Virgin wouldn't be able to hear my cry for my return to the sacraments.
I Thank God that I had subscribed to your channel. If I hadnt watched this video, gosh I was starting to despair, only God knows what would have happened to me! All of heaven has heard my prayers I am sure. After many years of exile, Jesus and Mary and St. Michael are coming to break the chains that bind me! I won't have to wait much longer. : D

I have recently been on a little over a year long journey back to the church. I have watched countless of your videos. But it was this one I watched for the first time earlier this week because I have been dealing with having mortal sin which I regret and I finally did face my fears and go to confession. I am now beyond excited for church this Sunday I'm excited to stand there and no longer feel like I don't belong. A year ago when I started my goal was to bring my children to the church and I did they were baptized and they are going through their classes but I just didn't feel like I belonged there and because my sin was so great I was afraid to confess it to my local priest partially because I didn't have a relationship with him and every other person I've ever confessed to I had a relationship with so it took me over a year and I am so happy that I finally did it thank you so much father Mike.
"Give another chance to love you" That's something I felt in my soul 5 years ago. A gentle persuasion, a warm bright feeling.
I said to God "Well, then do love me through people around me! I wanna feel it real!"
Not long after that He gave me a boyfriend who's now my husband.
"So? Would you give another chance to love you now?" I said "Well, yes, but without religion, please."
Then He eventually found a way how to make me fascinated about Catholic religion and now my soul begs me to go to church every Sunday and pray.
What can I say, God definitely knows how to find a way into my heart.

Dear Father, you don't know how much this video has helped me. My heart was weighing me down so much and you know, by God's grace I came across this and it gave me so much, so much comfort.
This helps me a lot. I’ve been trapped in a certain sin for a long while now and have been hopeless about getting out because I’m in constant sin. So knowing that He still wants me and all, just, means a lot. Another constant is that when I fall back after a week of doing good I’m too ashamed to pray. I need to watch this video ten more times. 1) I think there's a light behind you that kept distracting me. But 2) most importantly, I think this is something I need to keep reminding myself. I know it is the king of lies that tells me to just give up on trying to stay in a state of grace and accept my "human nature" as normal and that I must love myself as I am. Yes, Father Mike, remind us all that the Catholic Church preaches the love of God, for too many Catholics have left the Church looking for another option--church or otherwise-- because they think, wrongly, that the Catholic Church preaches a cold, law-based love; in fact, Mother Church teaches that God is Love--always.

Thank you Fr. Mike for helping me know not to be afraid to go to confession because God is truly present in the confessional and cleansing our sins away. The priest is there to listen give us advice and prays with us. I truly want to be with Christ for all eternity but the only way to enter into His Glorious Kingdom is with a cleansed soul.
You must stop sinning though. 1 John 1:7 You cannot be cleansed of sin unless you stop. Sin is not missing the mark. It literally means in Greek "without an allotment", meaning in the Kingdom of God. Something has to be able to separate you from the allotment you have in the Kingdom in order for it to constitute a sin. Mere mistakes or shortcomings are not sins. That was a mistaken reverse metaphor. It occurs once in the Old Testament in archery where sin was used as the metaphor for the archer missing the mark. Not the other way around. Archery was not the metaphor for sin, as many Protestant preachers use it today. The father seems to lift his ideas from the Protestant world. It is a bad idea, since they have now gone completely Apostate.

We are one body and the Scriptures are crystal clear about confessing our sins to one another and especially to a righteous member of the Body of Christ.
