  • Fanatec CSL DD vs Elite vs Logitech G27 - In this video I wanna compare my most recent 3 steering wheels I have owned and the differences between them and how much of a leap the was from a gear driven wheel to a belt driven wheel to a direct drive wheelbase

Honestly coming from the CSL Elite myself to the CSL DD 8nm version I was not looking for higher brute FFB as pretty much all cars today including race cars are employing power steering or now even drive by wire electric steering and even my Elite furnished me with enough of the total type of resistance.
But it was the little details or what I think most people describe as fidelity is where you feel the difference.
I think the difference is a lot of the minute fine details get absorbed by the belts or gears, all of the "middle men" and never reach you the driver, where with the wheel attached directly to the motor shaft and eliminated everything between the motor and wheel then you can feel those slight oscillations that were not felt in the other configurations.
As a result you are getting some early subtle warnings of what the car is doing that have really always been there in the games FFB but you were not able to feel them in the wheel as they sort of got lost in the trip from the wheelbase to the wheel.
My personal opinion is at under $500 U.S.D this is one of the best sim wheelbase buys available bar none, figure another $200 for the wheel and you are still looking at only $680 for entry into Direct Drive which before this was a price point totally unheard of.
I will also second that I would not buy this without getting the 8nm boost kit as with the 8nm level their is plenty of power to get an ample amount of "brute force" feedback while still leaving ample headroom that when the wheel gets busy like over curbings that you will not be clipping the signal.
I am in the camp that for most racers 8nm of power is plenty.
Personally I do not want a wheelbase that needs an emergency panic style cutoff button and in the event of a crash or malfunction in a game may actually break my wrist!
Also the Fanatec eco system is very good with quite a few different options and one software to control, update and calibrate your wheelbase, wheels and pedals on the pc is nice as well.
Also as Fanatec has grown larger and keeps gaining market share it is also getting more common to find presets within the games menus for their wheelbases and wheels, again not a big deal but a nice bonus.
I am definitely happy with my CSL DD and as a casual sim racer would never have spent the money to go DD at the $1000-$1700 most of the options were costing. I actually foresee this being my endgame wheelbase and would highly recommend it to others.

I've just upgraded from the G29 to the CSL DD (boost kit) and the difference is night and day, so pleased that when I first started to look at upgrading I wasn't able to get my hands on a CSL Elite and the extra time waiting for the DD was worth the wait.

The CSL Elite was a large upgrade for me coming from the G27, I wish I still had it to go back to now just to refresh my memory on how big the leap has been after going to the CSL DD, I probably wouldn’t get around the circuit in one piece, lol

Coming from the G29 to the CSL DD I can now feel what the car is doing so able to catch it faster when say the back end is coming round, where with the G29 I be facing the wrong way before I know it. Also just the extra details you pick up from the wheel has been "oh that's what I've been missing" 😁

Like many i'm on a G27 (others on similar) it was as if you were talking directly to me!
I have two questions, if I upgrade to the DD or Elite as i'm on a computer desk with monitor and other items like speakers, will the base unit transmit force into the desk and shake everything too much or even off the desk?
Can the G27 pedals and H shifter but used with Fanatec kit seperately? In time I can upgrade the pedals and H shifter but as my G27, pedals and shifter cost me £80 in total moving to all Fanatec kit at the same time will be very costly

Haha I have the G27 and I've been watching videos on this CSL DD, I WANT IT! The only thing i dislike is the amount you have to spend just to get everything working. Plan on saving up and getting the parts one by one tbh. Anyone know if you can DYI a wheel for these fanatec wheel bases?

A problem I have with the Elite is that I can't feel the back end of the car breaking loose. It's quite obvious when the front starts letting go though.
But the DD makes it so you can feel the rear loosing grip? Did I understand that correctly?
