I am shocked that you didn't realize that the girl was "lip syncing" to Tom Petty's voice. He has such a distinctive voice.
I am shocked you didn't realize that the girl isn't actually a girl...
@@michaelfried3123actually she is, and you’re a complete knob.
😂
Tom Petty had me with "Refugee" dude was a Legend from the beginning
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were a great American rock band formed in 1976. They had a lot of great hits such as "Breakdown", "American Girl", "The Waiting", "Learning To Fly", "Mary Jane's Last Dance", "Don't Do Me Like That", "You Got Lucky", "Change Of Heart", "I Need To Know", "Listen To Her Heart" etc. In 1989 Petty went solo & had quite a few hits. He was also part of the supergroup "Travelling Willburys" in 1988-91.
Definitely a rabbit hole you want to enter. Typically very creative videos and both groups are worth a deep dive
First hit that got a ton of radio play and popularized Tom and The Heartbreakers was "Refugee".
And anything from the Dam the Torpedoes album
Running down a dream. Tom Petty, fire
"I Won't Back Down" is one of his most popular.
lover him! R.I.P. Tom.
Another great musician we lost too young.
The Traveling Wilberries were:
Tom Petty
George Harrison ( from the Beatle)
Jeff Lynn. (ELO)
Bob Dylan
and Roy Orbison.
This song was one of Tom's last hits before he passed away.
He was very popular for about 20 years.
Refugee , American Girl, Free Falling, last dance with Mary Jane , don't come around here anymore were all big hits for him
His music has been called the soundtrack of America
You need to hear more of his music. You will become addicted. One of the best ever.
I have loved Tom Since the 70's and I really miss him!
American Girl, Refugee, Don't Come Around Here No More, and Won't Back Down are also good songs of his.
His catalog has a lot of variety. Earlier songs in the 80's were his breakout hits and a lot more rock vibes.
Tom has some great songs and any song that has a line "Let's smoke another joint" will be on my playlist. Some of my favorites are 'Breakdown', 'Refugee', 'Running Down a Dream' and 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around' (Duet with Stevie Nicks). Cheers.
* let's roll another joint.
Listen to Breakdown live ! The entire crowd sings along with him . Seen it myself . Traveling Wilburys were an incredible supergroup . End Of The Line would be my first pick of theirs .
A Wilbury is a who and not a what. Each member created their own character and each one had the last name of Wilbury.
Their Damn the Torpedoes album was just killer. It was their third album released in 1979 when I was 14 years old and an aspiring guitar player. It blew me away. Most Petty fans (me included) consider it not only their breakthrough album with so many hits but also their masterpiece. They were on fire and nailed it.
Tom Petty was a visionary with music videos with a lot his winning awards and garnering accolades.
He is my favorite of all time.
The favorite song from one of my favorite performers. Tom Petty was such a talented person, tragic that he's gone. He left behind a ton of great songs, so you'll have no trouble finding more. Keep it coming!
Tom Petty is one of my all time favorite singers and a national treasure . His voice and style is just so incredibly unique. His songs are beyond iconic and you just wanna sing/dance along with them. Free Fallin, American Girl, Mary Janes Last Dance, Running Down A Dream, Refugee, I Wont Back Down, Learning to Fly are just a taste of his genius! I wanted to see him sooo incredibly bad...i honestly miss him every time i hear his voice on theradio!! So glad you guys are diving into Tom Petty's music!!😎😎
You haven't seen someone play harmonica and guitar at the same time? You need to watch more Bob Dylan!
Tom Petty, one of the few artists that stayed relevant from the end of the 70's, well into the 90's. You always knew a Heartbreakers tune when it hit the airwaves. A distinct sound with clear lyrics, fun themes, and catchy tunes. So many great songs to choose from. I drive for a living. Running Down a Dream always spoke to me and is on my playlist. It's a hard driving tune.
"It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin'
Trees went by, me and Del were singin' little Runaway
I was flyin'
The next 5 miles would fly past. I knew.
How many times have I sung with Del to Little Runaway! The song just speaks to me.
Gotta listen to " Freefalling"...in my opinion, one of his best. The traveling Willberries where Bob Dylan, Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison( Beatles,,duh) and Jeff Lynn ( ELO), They were a true super group.
You guys should check out live version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Tom Petty, Prince, Jeff Lynne and many other superstars ... Amazing version!
Huge Tom Petty &THBs fan here from Australia.
I became a fan at 15, when they released the 'Damn the Torpedoes' album. You MUST listen to Refugee(the track that sent me on the TPATH ride till now)...Killer track!👍👍
American Girl was from his first album & is an absolute Classic till this day.
They have SO MANY hits you'll be down the 🐇🕳️ for ages...& then also with the Travelling Wilburys. They are Tom, Roy Orbison, George Harrison (Beatles), Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne(ELO) & Jim Keltner on drums.
A sensational band of mates playing because they love making music & being with friends.❤️
Some TP faves are,Refugee,American Girl, Breakdown, The Waiting, Even the Losers, Mary Janes Last Dance, Here Comes My Girl, .....+ so many other hits.
No that wasn't Tom in the dress lol just humour & going along with the songs title💡. Also interesting that when he/she comes in, the lyric line is- think of me what you will, I've got a little space to fill.. though maybe just coincidence 🤔 😁
Tom held no prejudices & had principles! 😎 AF ❤️
Enjoy guys! 🙂
✌️❤️
🇦🇺
Real gift to music.
Nowhere near his most popular song he has an extensive library but this is a good one
Tom Petty was a treasure, so much good music. Plus he was "Lucky" on King of the Hill.
Dude helped get me through the 80's.
Love Tom Petty. Runnin Down a Dream and Woman in Love are good ones from Tom and the boys.
One of the greatest songwriters ever!! Mary Jane's Last Dance, American Girl, Free Fallin, Don't Come Around Here No More, Stop Dragging My Heart Around (duet with Stevie Nicks), Learning To Fly, Refugee, I Won't Back Down... The list goes on and on!!
This was a later single of Tom's. He had already had many hits by this stage. This wasn't as big as other songs but was an example of Tom spanning generations. I'll let others throw up suggestions here because i can't decide other than to tip you to an early one as a starter...Breakdown
Check out his duet with Stevie Nicks "Insider". Tom petty has a lot of really good songs.
Refugee should be on this list..he had many amazing songs❤❤
Tom Petty is what I call soft rock. He has a easy listen and mello style. I’m a ACDC fan but I also enjoy the voice and mello style of Tom. Just about all his songs are good because they have that mellow feel and he’s a good song writer. That with his voice makes almost everything he does rather enjoyable. The entire Wildflowers album is high level.
the solo for Running Down a Dream is not what i would call soft Rock and the hook for Mary janes last dance is far from soft rock it all depends on what Album we are talking about .
the song Refugee is not soft rock.
Soft Rock lmao
His early stuff was definitely not soft rock, but many "younger" folks are more familiar with his later mellower style.
He’s soft rock. It’s so funny you guys get your feelings hurt. I just said what my favorite band is. ACDC is hard rock. Obviously Tom is not in that spectrum of being hard. If he’s not soft rock then who the hell is? Also cherry picking a few songs to judge him as a whole sounds like brain dead logic. All groups have songs that is outside their normal. That doesn’t define their style or most would belong to about every genre at once. Also soft rock isn’t an insult like you clowns are acting.
Que elegancia
This video was a one set, one shot wonder. One complete round. Sooo cool
total master in art
You two are going to be "free falling" down a long rabbit hole with TP & HBs. Thanks Phil & Sam
Toms voice is so beautiful and easy in the ears! RIP. Gotta listen to Last Dance with Mary Jane. He’s definitely country roots, folk, and rock. Started in the 70’s most popular songs in 80’s! Tom’s from Gainesville FL. Southern boy!! Always played at University of FL before football games! Now Every football season they have Tom Petty day and after the third-quarter everybody sings a Tom Petty song and goes crazy. It’s a blast.
Much of The Traveling Wilburys was clever send-ups of rock stereotypes, including their name, which sounds like a skin condition. Tom was a treasure, creative and relevant right up to the end of his long career. As an authentic, respected artist, he collaborated with many in the rock community: the Wilburys is only one example. IMO he is well worth a deep dive.
As far as The Wilburys is concerned, Handle With Care is the obvious choice, being the hit that created the band.
Thank you so much! I am a big Petty fan. Saw them 5 times in concert! Check out his other songs! A wonderful rabbit hole✌️
All his songs are great! My favorite is won't back down
Best American rock band of all time…EASILY…NEVER sold out and Tom did nothing but make PERFECT rock n roll for over 40yrs…
I was just happy I got to see him on his last tour 5 months before he passed. Got to take my parents. He was my mom's favorite musician and one of my dad's and I also.
Check out the duet of Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks "Stop Draggin My Heart Around". It is fire!
Playing the harmonica and guitar at the same time is rare, but there are a few who did it. Notably, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, and Neil Young. I think Johnny Cash did sometimes as well.
Don't forget Billy Joel
You play Tom Petty, and I stop whatever I'm doing and get over here. That's how it works.
He worked at UF on the grounds crew during the day then play the local pubs ( Purple Porpoise) at night. They have an annual Tom Petty day during football season and 90 K sing tribute to him.
Refugee and Breakdown are two of my favourites. I prefer his earlier stuff.
its about acceptance of yourself and others
My favorite song is Free Fallin. Stop Dragging my Heart around with Stevie Nicks ❤Traveling Wilburys start with “Handle with Care”. 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
You might want to check out "Stop dragging my heart around" by Tom Petty with fleetwood mac.
Tom is hands down my favorite rocker, have to do Free Falling, do the official video. You guys are great!
TP is one of the artists whose live versions are musically more exciting and express more, especially in blues-rock songs; the pressure in the 80s was to make short radio and MTV songs (see Born In The USA. Pack Up Plantation: Live from 1985 is awesome, but so are live videos. TP has a wide range; It's best to let yourself be surprised.
As a teenager I got to know TP through the rocking BreakDown 1977, Refugee+The Waiting 1980/1, but also the quieter Into The Great Wide Open 1991, lots of songs!!!
P.S. Traveling Wilbury's 1990/2 with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbinson, Jeff Lynne is another fantastic chapter!
Two of my friends and I were fortunate enough to see Tom Petty with his band, Heartbreakers back in May of 2017 before his sudden death in Oct. of 2017. Tom just gotten done with touring when he died.
Phil
Tom was having fun with the woman who lip sync him.
American Girl is my favorite song of theirs.
Tom Petty is an American musical treasure as his music spoke to so many people. You should watch the Super Bowl Forty Two Halftime Show they did in 2008 as it was 🔥 Back when great rock bands use to play at the halftime shows !
Amen✌️
Ya'll like Stevie Nicks, she does "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" with Tom. It's great.
Wiburys are for sure worth your time. If you want more Petty try "End Of The Line" for more of the others try "Handle With Care" (PS Dylan, John Lennon, and many others often played guitar, harmonica and sang at the same time.)
Tom Petty had quite a musical career. Rolling Stone compiled a list of his "top 50" songs.
From his early days; Refugee, American Girl and The Waiting span that era. During his final tours those three songs still were done every show.
In 1989-90 he had a resurgence with numerous #1's on the rock charts.
Free Fallin' probably was his most famous song. Into the Great Wide Open (the video features a very young Johnny Depp), Runnin' Down A Dream, I Won't Back Down (possibly his anthem, plus the video had a couple Beatles), Learning to Fly.
Plus a couple duets with Stevie Nicks (Stop Dragging My Heart Around)
As I heard it, the "Wilbury" name came from the phrase "we'll bury it in editing" whenever somebody made a minor mistake recording a track. So each of Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne adopted a fake name ending in Wilbury.
The Mother is a widow and overprotective. Pinky lost his Dad in the war. Most relaxing song...On The Run , lol.
Hello, First RIP Tom, Roy Orbison & George Harrison🙏I like his song Free Fallin and the song from The Traveling Wilburys song End of the Line
Breakdown, one of his first hits, is amazing. Rest In Peace TP
"Breakdown", "Refugee," and "Don't come around here no more!"
You two have gotta do Neil Young-Heart of Gold-Live concert at Massey Hall for BBC-1971.
He's a homegrown Canadian boy.
It's a great and super classic tune where he plays his harmonica while strumming an acoustic.
with the harp is definitely country folk feel to the song
Such a great song! I've heard it so much, but never watched the video 😂 it was great! ❤
Interesting choice for a Tom Petty song. He's got about 15 massive hits.
I suggest that, before listening to The Traveling Wilburys, you familiarize with the artists. It will make it better.
Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (ELO), Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan.
And please listen to Traveling Wilburys hits in chronological order for a very specific reason...which you'll see.
PS that visual that confused you is called...comedy 🤪
You forgot George Harrison!
Neil Young quite often in his songs played harmonica and guitar in his songs
Whenever Tom and the boys dropped a song it had airplay on heavy rotation for weeks. Soooo many great tunes it's hard to pick just one. Refugee is a banger and a half, if I had to chose just one, but Running Down a Dream has lots of bang to it too. See? Can't pick just one. LOL
The Wilburys of the Traveling Wilburys was a kind of joke. It came from Harrison and Lynne working in the studio and when they came across a mistake they’d say “we’ll bury it in the mix.”
Saw Tom with the Heartbreakers play live back in the summer of 1994. It was an almost 3 hour sing along fest. This song is one made just months after that time, but its easily one of my all time favorites!
i was wondering if that was you at that show.
@@markvanderstelt8999 bruh, it was! and you didn't even come over and say hi?
Do "Mary James last dance" next it is awesome!
Fun fact. Tom Petty has a cameo role in Kevin Costner’s movie The Postman.
The Travelling Wilburys were a great band. If I recall correctly it was Roy Orbison Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne and George Harrison. Unfortunately Orbison passed away before the second album.
It's still hard to believe Tom is gone, sadly his passing didn't get much publicity, because it was like a day before or after the Las Vegas mass shooting
Seeing Tim always reminds me of Neil Young. Try old man from 1971 live from the BBC
Do more Tom Petty!
ICONIC!!...It does have a countryish vibe for Petty!..Stoner Rock.
Love Tom, he also did a duet with Stevie Nicks, “Leather and Lace”. Great song.
Leather and Lace is an AMAZING song. One of my favorites of all time! But Stevie sang it with Don Henley (from the Eagles). Stevie and Tom Petty did Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around, also a killer song! ✌🏼
"Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" is the duet I think you mean. I believe "Leather and Lace" was Stevie and Don Henley.
Muy buen video
So many great hits by Tom Petty. "BREAKDOWN", " MARY JANE'S LAST DANCE", "FREE FALLIN'", "CRAWLING BACK TO YOU", and "A FACE IN THE CROWD" are a few of my personal favorites. Enjoy!
The Wilbrurys got together as a lark, George Harrison was recording a song, He called Bob Dylan to see if he could record at his house, but first he had to go get a guitar from Tom Petty, he ran into Jeff Lynn on the was and Roy Orbison was near and joined in. That one song, turned into a bunch of friends getting together and jamming. It turned into the band. but it was just for fun, none of them liked extra touring. Petty is most likely our best Amercian songwriter
Tom had just replaced the original drummer from 1976 Stan. His replacement was Brit, Steve Perroni. He is one of the best rock drummers ever.
Tom also has a sense of humor and does some joke in each video, (Like letting other lip synch his lines in the song)
His Florida accent might be adding to the "country" sound. Most of the band is from Gainesville Florida. Swamp stoner rock.
Just a little humor
Africa knows who Tom Petty is.
I enjoy watching your reactions
Regarding the video, the whole thing is one shot, not edits at all. He was standing on a rotating turntable and spun around with various scenes going on behind him.
Petty has many facets and it's impossible to get much from one song. You guys need to explore much more of him to get a better picture.
Definitely more Wilburys please.
Listen to Handle With Care from the Traveling Wilburys! George Harrison is awesome!
If you want a psychedelic Tom Petty experience check out the official video for "Don't Come Around Here No More." The video for "Last Dance with Mary Jane" is disturbing. My favorite song of his is "Crawling Back to You."
Tom plays Swamp Rock, his music falls into a similar sound as Lynyrd Skynyrd out of Gainesville/Jacksonville Florida area
Don’t you love how it ends with that lone microphone?
I’ve always associated the harmonica with the blues
Hey Phil & Sam, I think Tom Petty is an artist that you either like his music or you don't, similar to Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen...shall we say these artists are an acquired taste. lol I happen to love all three and same goes for the supergroup "The Traveling Wilburys" Here's an audio version and a music video of them performing the same song together. You can choose for yourselves which one you'd like to give a listen. The first is the extended audio version 1) "End Of The Line - Traveling Wilburys - 1080 - FULL EXTENDED VIDEO & AUDIO VERSION" (by the channel: Deano Essex) and this is the music video 2) "The Traveling Wilburys - End Of The Line (Official Video)" I'm so glad you two enjoy listening to Tom Petty, his style of music is certainly an eclectic taste and I look forward to exploring more of his tunes together with you. Really enjoyed the reaction thanks for sharing.
Free fallin and running down a dream bo5h great songs
The Traveling Wilbur’s were George Harrison (Beatles) , Tom Petty , Jeff Lynn (ELO) , Bob Dlyan & the legendary Roy Orbison. Fairly decent band. 😂
This is solo Tom Petty, but members of the Heartbreakers do play on his solo stuff, especially his right-hand man/lead guitarist Mike Campbell (who leads his own band now, The Dirty Knobs). Check out “Refugee” with the Heartbreakers or “I Won’t Back Down” solo.
For me it's Tom petty and the heartbreakers and their song " the waiting" is special because of when I was waiting to meeting my now boyfriend of 14 years, waiting for him to pick me up ❤ but there's a lot of their songs that I absolutely dig✌️
Interested in if the cover band the parents saw was what you might call a "tribute" band, where the musicians take on the appearance and mannerisms of the originals. The guys in the Wilburys band had such distinct and recognizable personas, that I think that would make for a good show...
Bob Dylan often played with a harmonica like that. So did Neil Young.
woman in love
