Hello, I have been waiting for your next video and here it is! Now you are discussing your gardens and park. I am a horticulturist. Remember I know you like ivy but the root system of ivy is very dense. You will be able to grow daffodils and narcissus, but tulips will not grow in the shade. And after a while the bulbs you plant in a forest will die back without replanting on an annual basis. As for your parterre garden the design is perfect. The shade trees will have to come down. It will need full sun, to thrive. I suggest the smaller ‘Korean Boxwood’ versus standard Buxus for the perimeter. I grew Annabelle hydrangea in my gardens and orchard in Newport, RI. They have enormous flowers. What is most special about them is that the white flowers turn a rich green color in the fall. I think you want leaves on your garden floor as well as the mulch will feed the trees. Do not let the ivy climb your trees. The ivy takes the energy away from the trees. You always present a fait a compli plan, so I hope you listen to one’s advice who has planted all of the small shrubs and perennials you are discussing. I love the plan, but do not expect tulips to grown in the shade. Also look into the native forest wild flowers that you can plant in your forest as well. There is wild ‘ladies slipper’, may apple, jack - in - the -pulpit’ a variety of plants that are beautiful in the spring and summer. Also trilium. On another note, have you planned for a underground watering system?

You sound very knowledgeable and I'd love to see your garden, but perhaps you don't know France and what will survive/thrive there? I don't mean to cause any offence and I'm probably reaching.
I'm only saying because I love those trees and even though there's alot of shade I don't want to see them cut down 🙈

I had my little forest in Argentina, with ivy covering the ground and climbing the trees, where owls, pigeons and sparrows nested and had endless conversations with each other... Also an English-style garden, with robust dahlias, daffodils, lavenders, acanthus, invincible jasmines, clivias and anemones, with butterflies and bees working tirelessly. And large orange and lemon trees that enveloped everything with their perfume in spring. There was also a fenced plot where vegetables and legumes grew protected under the shade of a mulberry tree, surrounded by a bed of aromatic herbs to keep them safe from the persevering ants... I know the care and love that accompanying nature requires in its growth and also the happiness that is seeing it in all its splendor. Success with this beautiful project and congratulations from Argentina.

Your thoughts for the garden are similar to what I did with my house and property in the United States before I moved to France. Pathways through the forest leading to a surprise (bench, statue, art installation) make the property fun. Best wishes for continued success with the project. 👏👏

How did this happen? I’m five days late to the party! Still enjoyed the video nonetheless and what a pleasure to have your explanation of plans for the gardens. Amazing that not only do you have a lake and a moat but what a surprise to have an attractive church at the end of the forest walk and even your own river. Any more good finds like that and you will surely be the envy of many other chateau owners! Well, except for the significant work that will be required to clean up the dead and damaged trees. As previously mentioned, bluebells and snowdrops would add the perfect touch to the natural beauty of the forest.

Your plans and progress sound delightful and in context with the Chateau. Thank you for including us. Although you likely have already planted the Buxus and Taxus, it's important to remember that there are many species and cultivars of both.. some are quite large and vigorous requiring more pruning. Taxus has separate male and female plants. The berries on the female are highly toxic and their red colour would not add to the serene design and palette of the Parterre.
A few bulbs and plants for your consideration: Galanthus nivalis/Snowdrops, white flowers very early bloom (bulb) Naturalizes well
Hyacinthoides non-scripta/white bluebells. Bulb. Naturalizes well.
Galium odoratum/ small white flower early Spring/noninvasive ground cover/edible Naturalizes well
Ferns..many to choose from. Three Canadian choices, Polystichum munitum, Polystichum polyblepharum..both evergreen..mass plant in forest settings and river banks. Adiatum pedatum, semi deciduous, very delicate for close-up viewing.
Matteucia struthiopteris/Ostrich fern, quite large, stunning.
Dicksoniana antarctica/tree fern/tropical so not winter hardy/gorgeous. Grow in a large container and protect in winter. Something to consider adding as your gardens progress.
Daphnes and Gardenias. Beautiful mostly evergreen scented shrubs.
One reminder for the Parterre plantings, if I may...Peonies full sun, Hydrangea macrophylla shade..
Wishing you continued success. In a chaotic world, it is reassuring knowing there are people devoted to creating beauty and order.

The river is absolutely charming - I am wondering whether it flooded (not sure if you had lots of rain in your region). Interesting that ivy could be beneficial! I have those cyclamen in my lawn, and they bloom both in spring and autumn - they are a real treasure. Snow drops are nice and bloom beginning in December until the early part of March.

nice work ahead! Nice ideas; gate to the forest, creating paths...
For the enclosed garden i saw nice ideas with combinations of Hydrangea and alliums, the aliums blossom earlier than the hydrangeas and creating a long blossoming effect. Alliums flowers also onger than the mentioned tulips.
For the bottom of the forest you can include bulbs like bluebells, ad the edges of the forest you can also plant crocus. My personal alltime favourite in forests are ferns.

Maybe you can make a Lily lake or lake of flowers for that soul in the grave you mentioned. In ancient Egypt they have shabtys on magical bricks for protection. Once the heart was weighed the soul was rowed with others who had also been justified across Lily Lake (also known as The Lake of Flowers) to a land where one regained all which had been thought lost. There one would find one's home, just as one had left it, and any loved ones who had passed on earlier.

Hi Antoni, are you not afraid of all the Boxwood Diseases & Insect Pests, my family have lost so many Boxwood in the last five years to this new pest Japan. It is better to take an alternative to Boxwood as it is not only soul destroying but also so expensive to have 20 - 30 year old box balls and other ornaments just eaten by box pests and then needing to remove them again. The design looks very nice and also the idea for having all year round flowers and plants. Looking forward to seeing this project !

What beautiful grounds you have. I can already imagine how beautiful and tranquil it will be. Please reconsider planting ivy in the forest. Ivy is a vine that will grow up the trunks of trees and eventually overrun and kill the tree. You can see it already growing up some of the trees in your forest. Ivy has an extremely strong, woody root system that goes deep and is difficult to get rid of once it has taken over. I strongly suggest choosing another type of ground cover for your forest.

You have a lovely forest, Anthoni. The river and the bridge add a romantic feel. If I may suggest, if you want to organize treks around the forest, the pit stops could be a chance for people to know what trees and other flora are there and if there are background stories at each stop, that could be a very interesting walk. Or if you want you can put up some "active spots" like a tree house, a swing or even a climbing rope for those physically able to climb. All the best!

I was wondering when we would be getting another installment from you. Always leave people wanting more is a good strategy and I suspect you're probably a busy man.
I'm impressed with how in depth you've researched and planned your project.
Personally, I like the Taxus flanking the forest entrance. It signals a transition into the fantasy woodland ahead. Perhaps a scene evoking A Midsummer Night's Dream.
I'm a bit surprised that you wish to plant the entire forest floor with ivy. Will you be able to maintain healthy trees with the forest floor covered in an invasive and parasitic monoculture like Hedera? I admit that it sounds lovely if you can get it all to grow together harmoniously.
I love naturalized bulbs in the woods. I remember driving one Spring day into a wooded area outside Nevers to see les jonquils. There were hundreds of people in the woods picking them. They were as thick as dandelions and twice as cheerful. Truly unforgettable!
The patch of cyclamen was spectacular. They're one of my favorites.
I applaud your ambition. It will be magnificent when finished.
