Dazed and Confused Filming Locations (1993) - Hollywood's Hallowed Grounds with Sean Clark

  • Hollywood's Hallowed Grounds: Episode 1 - Dazed and Confused (1993). So, if you are familiar with my Horror's Hallowed Grounds episodes this is something a little different. Obviously, Dazed and Confused isn't a horror film so I am presenting this under the Hollywood's Hallowed Grounds banner because either way it's still HHG. baby! I threw this together from random footage and photographs I had shot from multiple visits to the filming locations of the movie Dazed and Confused starting back in 2004. This was stuff I shot for fun and NEVER intended them to be used in an episode but while I'm stuck at home during the Corona Virus Quarantine this sounded like a fun project to try and put together on my own. The quality here and there is a bit lacking but I enjoyed piecing this together. There will likely be similar projects like this to follow until life gets back to normal so we can all just keep on livin' man. L-I-V-I-N. SUBSCRIBE → bit.ly/2TAyK0B

    As a Dazed fanatic, this is just gold. Especially the footage of the "middle school" in Georgetown, which has changed so much over the years (it's no longer a school at all, just a administrative building for the school district). The chain link fence is no longer there, and that entire side angle of the building has been re-landscaped.
    Then the footage of the Emporium before the "flying buttresses" were added and it was still for lease back in the day, amazing. For sure all the Emporium interior scenes were shot there, not at some alternate location as sometimes mentioned. Those interior shots with the globe and double doors are golden. As are the interior shots of the Centennial Liquor store location next to the Emporium.
    I was at Bedichek in 2019 but was unable to get inside, so those are rare shots with the water fountain and George Washington, totally amazing.
    Thank you!

    Went back and watched some of the older locations videos you did. Love them all. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to bring the locations to everyone. I really enjoy watching these and seeing your excitement to film them.

    I gotta correct you on that slide. I don't know about that school (and if it was added for the film) but a school I went to in the mid 80s (built in the early 20th century) had a metal slide attached to the third floor. It was used to get people out of the school if a fire broke out. By the mid 80s, when I was there, the access from the inside was blocked off.

    As much as I love Dazed and Confused, I love the follow up film Everybody Wants Some even more. I saw this film 9 times in theaters upon its release because the nostalgia, soundtrack, and characters kept sticking with me. Eventually I had to track down guest to interview from it. I got two guests and it was a thrill. So, check out Everybody Wants Some. It is Linklater's "spiritual" sequel to Dazed and Confused only with different characters, plus it is set in 1980. Love that film.

      ‘Everybody wants some’ is beyond bland story line and has no feel too it, dazed and confused portays the mid 70s perfectly with it characters and filming locations , tbh when I first saw it I thought it was actually filmed in 70s or 80s

      @mjtch People prefer Dazed and Confused because Matthew McConaughey plays a possible predator of high school girls. Yeah, his famous line would be called out if Bill Cosby said it. That line doesn't age well.

    Groovy HHG episode dude!😵‍💫 Speaking of “teenagers hanging out with each other” movies, maybe you could do an HHGs episode on the movie The Stoned Age, which some say is actually superior to Dazed & Confused and features cameos by Taylor Negron, Blue Oyster Cult, and Frankie Avalon!

    Dude man I was in elementary school Star Wars 70s kid and can totally see the slide exist back then ,cuz not only did our one teacher have a three story fort built in the class room to go in and read books in 3rd grade,but also a book drive to fund a cargo net we finally got for the gymnasium to climb hanging from the ceiling let's say 35 to 40 feet up ,no harnesses ,ropes,or even pads on the floor.20 little kids climbing kicking each other off ,NOT TODAY! THATS FOR DAMN SURE....

    Love your videos.. Very cool to see that some of these places havent changed much. I do have a question, and youre the guy to ask. Several of Dazed and Confused scenes were shot in Georgetown, Texas. The movie Varsity Blues was also shot partly in the Georgetown/Austin area. Are any of the locations doubled up, ie, is the Top Notch the drive in that Mox's girlfriend works at and is the football field the same for the fictional West Caanan?

    @Sean it’s very sad to hear about the guy who played Michael Myers reshoots past away. I like how you always filming classic movie’s location’s because now days they’re destroying history everywhere no matter where anyone from, in every state somewhere they’re removing history, it’s very sad, but that’s what the rich people do. They rather make houses, condos where nobody could afford these hard times now. The world full of homeless people, you don’t see nobody helping them, it’s a shame how people treat people.

    • @malfuncsean
      @malfuncsean  Před rokem +1

      It wasn’t A. Michael Lerner who played Michael Myers in the reshoots that passed away it was his father Fred Lerner who happened to be the stunt coordinator on the film. Fred was also the orderly Myers chases through the tunnel and kills when he reaches the closed cell door. Fred was the stunt coordinator as well as the guy who pulls the gun on the boys for smashing his mailbox in Dazed and Confused.
