Booking agents are technically salesmen, they try to sell you as an artist to club/festival and if they feel like you can make them money then you will definitely get booked again. Thanks Luke for sharing this info with us young DJ/Producers!
As a dentist they owns my own business, I love seeing the parallels between your industry and mine. Success is so much about hard work AND building the right team!
Great advice!
Additional tip: properly read your agency contract, the length of the contract and don't be scared to question the agency.
I've had contracts that last 3 years and if you want to leave within those 3 years, the agency will still take 50% of your booking fee, even though they had nothing to do with getting that booking.
A year and a half is a good start for joining an agency imo :)

I remember speaking to someone from Paradigm (Austin, Tx) awhile back via email and I really dislike the old school aspect of Paradigm, that you have to be referred by "word-of-mouth" from someone who has connections with them, in order to be considered to join the Paradigm roster. I was really bummed, since I live in Houston, I rarely play any shows, and I'm mostly my bedroom releasing records. 😑

can you explain how to release 1 track on mutable labels because i've noticed the same tracks on a small handful of different labels but how does the money work if everyone is releasing the same track?
most of those are promotion labels/agencies as opposed to official labels

This was very informative. Thanks! Can you explain how to do a radio show/podcast? I see some DJs who have weekly radio shows and podcasts and they seem very involved in it. Then I hear some DJs with mechanical/autogenerate playlist style weekly shows with no vocal input in it whatsoever, they don't even speak on their shows. Can you show us how to make a radio show or a podcast? Some even seem to use agencies to make their radio shows/podcasts,.... what can I do as someone starting out? Thanks.

This is a cool vlog but i still have some unanswered questions, I'm getting support on my tracks and the plays are racking up each track i put out but nobody seems too be reaching out to me and booking me for clubs which is what i want.. ? I'm sending my tracks to labels (mixmash included) but i'm just constantly getting rejected and thinking of giving up, i'm the guy that won the Tiesto comp for the decks which i was really happy about !

I have a Question: How do you or another artist feel about crowds not showing up? Do you still perform with motivation if no one is watching or just go to another event? I would really love to know! :D
If you are signed by an agent you would have already gone through the warm up slot phase of playing to no one in a room before the main dj it’s all part of the process
I live in Tennessee, there is no. music station that plays dance/edm... My personal preference is Techno/Trance. Do I live in a secluded caged area or is Trance/Techno popular in other areas of the world? Ur good without the cap. no grays I can see.
Thank you for another helpful VLOG :) - But I am from Vienna and in Austria there are such Booking Agencies for Weeding DJ's or Après Ski DJ's. So this Agencies just have Hobby-DJ's. What can i do in this case? #DJAlexKlaasen
