Danzig to me always sounds like if Jim Morrison started a punk band
#TRUTH
Totally. I'd add that it's as if Morrison had a child with The Cult's Ian Astbury, you got Danzig.
Original
@@Rafael-pi4md You do know Danzig was in The Misfits, right?
Exactly lol
This is one of the extremely rare songs loved by metal, punk, alternative, and Goth fans!! Heavy and tuneful!
This old punk/Goth totally agrees.
This old punk disagrees. The whole Satanism schtick always struck me to be one of the dumbest things on the planet. The music is strong for doom rock but the imagery is laughable, a self parody.
And that's always the disconnect between punk and metal for me. I get it: both are alienated. Both try to shock. But punk has biting social commentary and metal has ... Satanism? Really? The lyrics and the attitude just come up so short.
But my hat has always been off to Danzig for avoiding some of the musical stereotypes of metal even while they bought into the imagery stereotypes like skeletons, horns etc. They don't do the chugging ultra heavy power chords, and that's a plus. But then you get to the shredding solo and it's "ho hum, same old shit."
@@David-iv6je uh metal has loads of social commentary to lump all metal into a black metal genre shows lack of true understanding of metal.
@@tackle47 I'm old. There were no sub-sub genres of metal when I was young and I can't name a metal song with great lyrics. The imagery seemed mostly preposterous and the musicianship is like the musical equivalent of porn, with guitar shredding taking the place of puffed up lips and silicon breasts. There's a reason the saying is "less is more" and not "more is more."
@@David-iv6je to each their own but read these lyrics from my favorite band Jinjer from their song Home Back. Oh and I am no spring chicken myself at 54. It is important to note Jinjer is Ukrainian and they lost their homes in the Eastern Ukraine 8 years ago. This song was released in 2019. Jinjer plays zero solos but are not an easy listen for some as they are progressive. Note as well highly technical music is not “porn”, virtuosity is highly valued in metal and many other music. Regardless here is the lyrics.
What is this?! What is this mess?!
What's that noise? Is this a death sentence?
Terrifying silhouettes
Rising over the motherland.
Are those the fireworks?
No. it's a military quirk.
Is it a mermaid singing?
No. it's a siren screaming.
Is it an angel watching over us?
It's an air-fighter making a fuss.
Why is this party looking so bizarre?
A party? No! this is W.A.R.
My darling, did we wake up like this?
Isolated bodies in a boudoir of helplessness.
A bullet is an early bird, a midnight owl.
Morning greeting of a rooster are replaced
With fire in a hole.
My dear, do we have to go to sleep like that?
With a soothing cocktail and the hundredth cigarette.
Morning greeting of a rooster are replaced
With FIRE IN A HOLE!.
Our beds are cold,
As cold as basement floor.
Our beds are cold,
As cold as basement floor.
This house is not our shelter anymore.
Anymore.
Home is not a building,
Home is liberty.
A place where memories live
In prosperity and peace.
I came back home so I want my home back
I came back home so I want my home back.
Don't you leave us homeless!
Don't you leave us homeless!
Homeless homeless.
I have some personal history with this band (and the misfits). when i was a kid, my best friend lived literally 6 houses away on the same block. His name was Eric Stellmann. In 1976, my sister, who was nine years older than me, took us to see Elton John at madison square garden. I was 13, he was 12. We always sat together at the same table in the middle school cafeteria with Paul Caiafa (later known as Doyle, from the misfits) and a couple other nerdy kids. Anyway, Eric Stellmann wold later be known as Eerie Von, the bass player for Danzig. (btw, Glen Danzig's real name is Glen Anzalone)
YES!
Somebody knows who tf Glen is💘
It messes me up that so many people do not do a little back research on band's throughout the evolution of music.
I mean you can't learn about everyone, or every band, but maybe a little snipitt, on the more
well known band's members, especially since they usually exchange time with various bands.
A couple of years ago, one of my daughters dedicated this song to me on Mother's Day. It might seem strange to some, but it is one of my favorites!
Girl! You raised them kids right! 🤘🏼
So exquisitely wrong that it's wonderful.
At least they didn't dedicate Genesis' Mama like some people do
bruh
@@imadbasayev8541 Andy Summers' Mother off the Police's Synchronicity would be more traumatic for many mothers.
If you want to do more Danzig, please do "How the Gods Kill." Amazing transitions and energy.
that's a good choice. also hear Misfits, and then Samhain. There is a youtuber Jeff Frumess who digs comically deep into the Danzig universe, his channel is quite good
My brain automatically reaches for MAX volume when I hear this!
FYI Glenn Danzing began in the punk band " Misfits" Need to get back to
" The Cult"- " Love Removal Machine".
Similar to this. Both great!!
I second Love Removal Machine
Very similar bands. Dancing/Misfits very raw. The Cult more polished and produced.
I thought this was The Cult when it came out. Sounds so much like them.
poor man's spin on ":the Cult" for sure.
@@ednicholson7839 Sounds a lot like
Lil Devil by the Cult.
This song felt so foreboding and dangerous when I was a kid... hearing it now, it is so sparse, so precise... stripped to the bones and smacking as hard as it can. What an awesome song.
Danzig was the former lead singer of The Misfits the seminal Horror Punk Band
His vocals were channeling Elvis and Jim Morrison
And ROY Orbison
Indeed
Great pick! Travel little further back in history and hit some Misfits (Danzig's original band) London Dungeon or Saturday Night (yes, I know it's not Glenn singing) would be my recommendation.
😆 🤣 😂
After the misfits stay on board and hit some black flag too
@@myreviews8099 good call
Saturday night is Graves singing though
@@idizzle498 great fucking song tho
Hell of a song 🔥🤘🏼 when this comes on while I'm driving I start to speed🤘🏼😂
The Cult "Electric" is one of the most no nonsense, balls out, hard rock albums of the 80s. Peace Dog is my favorite track off that album
b-52 baby! Prolly my favorite The Cult album - bangers galore
Electric and Sonic Temple were always close at hand when I was in high school
Love from Love is the best guitar lick. Wicked heavy goth.
Love Removal Machine for me. First Cult song i heard. MTV
Great choice. I like every song off that album. Lil Devil, Rattlesnake shake, NYC, Wildflower….the list goes on
Thank you Andy and Alex, you made my day. Checkout some of Glen Danzig earlier music with The Misfits. Last Caress, Where Eagles Dare, Asteroid Zombies, and Die Die Die my Darling are awesome!
Once upon a long time ago lived evil
Awakened to find that you're looking through the eyes of a madman's evil monster
You've heard Floyd and Danzig. Now it's time for John Lennon's "Mother".
Then 'Mama' by Genesis.
What about the Police, Blondie or Chicago? Those are the only other songs I know simply entitled Mother. Probably only The Police song is fairly well-known out of these three since it is from a blockbuster album. Chicago’s song Mother was on Chicago III, so it’s probably remembered by many folks. Blondie’s song is from 2011.
Yes.
Wow. I’m smiling from ear to ear. It brings me such joy that you reviewed this ! This song is on fire. The singer has such a great voice.
Twist of Cain is a banger too.
Hell yeah. Big time banger
Yes!!! Another Danzig song which had me racing for the dance floor. LOVE IT.
Glen Danzig’s other band is The Misfits, this is his solo project. The Misfits are like a fusion of punk rock, Elvis/50’s rock n roll, and horror-genre B-movies.
Check out The Misfits - “We Are 138”
I’m totally there for late 80’s and 90’s bangers like this!
Twist of Cain would have to be the next step. Also Glenn's first band, Misfits are an iconic punk band. Check out Die Die My Darling, Teenagers from Mars, Astro Zombies, Last Caress, and Horror Hotel
This is definitely one of those songs that is fun to sing along to, super fun, belty and catchy. Great reaction Gents!
Glenn Danzig is a nutbag and I love him.
This was a perfect reaction from you two this time. Awesome song by a awesome group!
Loved this song in High school. Danzig's vocals are like a metal mix of Jim Morrison and Elvis.
You should do “Mother” by John Lennon!. You guys haven’t played any solo John Lennon ,George Harrison, Ringo Starr solo work ! . What a crime .
Yeah, I’d love to hear them listen to Working Class Hero or Instant Karma at the very least
On CZcams, there could be a block problem.
I agree
What?! He liked an eighties song? Clutches chest heart attack.
Appetite for Destruction is one of his favorite albums.
@@mrgmusicclass lol Guns and Posers?
Just a joke I also like Guns and Roses.
He's liked lots of 80s songs. Go take a look at the videos tab for proof so we can put that myth to bed once and for all.
GOOOOOOOD MORNING A&A FAMILY!!!
☮️💟♾️
The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" & "Do You Realize"
Gives me hope to see younger generations enjoying music of my generation
The first real music reaction channel I see, the others always pause and rewind the song when they hear it for the first time, it doesn't make any sense. Congratulations on your channel!
I've never heard this before, but holy heck > I enjoyed the heck outta' that dudes! Now I'm going to have to check out more Danzig. Thnx for introducing something to me!
Impossible to hear Glen Danzig's voice without recommending some Misfits, especially their seminal "Last Caress."
I'm on the same level as you Alex with an "S"... Mostly bc of the lyrical content .. it needed to be screamed with a mad attitude & loud hard rock!! I have to say though it was definitely borderline for me from an "A+". Thnx Andy for sharing this one with Alex .. new for me but I really liked it. You Gents have a wonderful week❣️
Danzig’s entire catalogue is a treasure trove of incredible lyricism and integrity he didn’t care to be mainstream.
Heck yeah! 1st 3 Danzig albums are awesome. Borderline S tier for me.
Black Aria and 4 are good, too. After that, I agree the quality started to fall off.
I normally read all my news with coffee before any CZcams videos, but saw 'Mother' & Danzig and was instantly all-in. Check out Glenn's earlier band, The Misfits - 'Die die die my darling' is a classic.
This is a new one for me, so thanks Andy! The vocals remind me of The Cult so much. Love the tempo change.
YES!!!!! Ive listened to every glenn danzig project since i was a kid and im 43
Heyheyhey!!!! FINALLLLLY someone is doing Danzig!!! This is one of my favorite hard songs!! When I listen to this song, our neighbors do too
to go from Dusty Springfield to Danzig is the reason I watch this channel 😁
"Little Whip" off DANZIG 4 is perfection.
Those opening notes always had me running to the dance floor, back in the day.
You want to give this song justice? You need to hear the live version. Listening to the crowd singing along. Gives me chills!!!
The Misfits were Glen Danzig's first band. They are legendary for fusing a goth/horror motif with punk/harcore songs with earworm melodys.
songs you must hear are Where Eagles Dare, Astro Zombies, Horror Business, Teenagers From Mars, Skulls, and Green Hell (which was covered by Metallica.)
Holy crap, this just popped into my head a couple days ago. Haven't heard since high school. Thanks for doing it!
Hey fam! Every house band in Florida still plays song to this day! 💚💚
Morning 🌄
What part? I want to move in 2 years. Fort Myers Beach or Saint Pete Beach I think
@@Meandmymirror The Tampa area...
@@Meandmymirror I prefer St. Pete to Ft. Myers.
@@nightbird1314 Can you tell me why? The Saint Pete Beach have inexpensive or free trolleys transportation?
More cow bell damn it.... Banger boys.... from the 80s BTW..... Danzig is a little dude bodybuilder with a great voice...... and the pork chop sideburns make the look.... lol
Speaking of more cowbell… czcams.com/video/cVsQLlk-T0s/video.html
I recently discovered this song like a couple months ago. Been jammin to it ever since in the car.
My wife is saying that her brother loved it. They would take the long way home to hear it loudly
Danzig also reminds me of a cross between Jim Morrison and Ian Astbury (of the Cult).
The whole album this monster banger came from was incredible. I bought it the week it was released. The whole thing still holds up and then some.
I am from Louisville Kentucky. Back in the day, late 80s early 90s, there was a band from here called Kinghorse. They were going to be the next big thing , and I loved them. They got a record deal, went to New York City and recorded with Glenn Danzig as their producer. The resulting album is very, very good. It holds up well, but the band never really went anywhere. I would strongly suggest checking it out. It's available on CZcams. They were a brutally good live band, as the legend went, they played every single song they knew at every rehearsal. Unfortunately, they never really went anywhere. I do remember them coming home from La after they played a showcase out there. They told me about some stupid band that opened for them named Alice in Chains.
The 502!!! Loved bar hop'n back in the 80's lots of good live bands !!! R.I.P Toy Tiger......
I always tell new Danzig listeners that this is like a AC/DC rock beat with Jim Morrison as a vocalist
Evocative ! Thanks Alex for our 'New Word for Today' !
I still hear it on the radio today! I had this CASSETTE single when this came out 😂 I was 9 yrs old! He’s only 5’3” or so but built and man can he sing!
Such a great gym song. Kicks tremendous ass. I wish more of their songs had this vibe.
I have been waiting for this one! My son played it on guitar hero and it hit my playlist
NO ONE Should Go Through Thier Lives Without Hearing This Classic Rock Anthem,, Billy Thorpe "Children Of The Sun"...R.I.P. Billy 🙏 ❤
Never heard this before, his voice stylistically sounds like Jim Morrison. Good stuff.
Ya. Glen Danzig definitely worships at the throne of Jim Morrison.
Thought the same
Thanks Guys - an unexpected Banger! I originally got into A&A because of the Rock you reviewed, and the Rockers remain my favorite reacts!!!
That’s one great sound.
Speaking to the effect of music video games of your generation, there is a band that’s currently getting big called “The Warning” that exists because three sisters were enamored with the game “Rock Band”. They eventually asked their parents for the real instruments
Hey guys I'm a truck driver I just picked up in Lakeland I'm on i-4 fixing to pick up i-75 going north heading to baton rouge Louisiana I'm checking out your danzig video as we speak!
I'm 64 , this is a banger - S tier. I wasn't into the hair band Era. Yet this one stood out
My kids were huge Danzig fans. I started to listen and thought they were awesome
Great song guys. Such a strong tune. Thanks for this memory.
Bought this tape when it came out. Always loved Danzig
I like deep house music and 90s hip hop but I love this song
One of those rare songs that has never left my playlist. Great video!
Imagine coming into this cold for the first time!
Next 80's - "Bastards of Young" by The Replacements
Evil Elvis lives!
I missed him singing "thank you!" at the end from the live version
Danzig loves Elvis and made no bones about using Elvis as a strong influence.
I thought this song was a "Guitar Hero" song. Now I know who did it, thanks! 😎
Also adding Cold Wind to Valhalla also from the Minstrel album. The drumming. Oh the drumming!
Don't think I've ever heard this one before but it does sound vaguely familiar. Good, good tune!
Amazing guitar work .. wow!
I remember back in the day when we heard there was going to be an X-Men movie, everyone wanted Danzig to play Wolverine, because he's very short and stocky, like the actual comic Wolverine. Would have been interesting.
Loved this since it came out since my older sister was a metalhead and I was raised on this
You can't go wrong with guitar hero songs guys... thanks for the banger
Great tune. My kids used to play guitar hero 2. I would try and got frustrated. I ended up getting my guitar and actually playing along with most of the tunes.
You Guys need to hear (Phill Collins - Mama)
By far the thing that stuck out to me most on this listen was the drums. It felt like Pick Withers (Dire Straits original drummer) was on the skins here, doing everything to serve the song, bringing high energy when needed, but never drawing attention in a "look-at-me" way.
I was the same.
I heard this song from guitar hero 2 and loved it ever since. Now you'll have to do more guitar hero songs on the channel and I can't wait.
So good thanx guys! Another great Danzig song is Dirty Black Summer
Watching them just groove out and head bob to this has to be one of the most relatable things ever
Great reaction and insights, guys. The song's greatness is in its simplicity. Another great hard rock/metal song with reference to the vocalist's mother and father in the chorus is "Second Chance" by Shinedown. An A+ or S song.
I actually found myself looking forward to the chorus, knowing how you guys would react!
I'd put it up there with BTO, Autograph, Blackfoot....etc etc. Good garage rock sound. It's a B+ from me.
Autograph?
Don't see those 2 together at all ,lol.
Not Blackfoot., Not even close.
@@jgsrhythm100
You're right... they're not as good as any of those 3 bands. It's a meaty sound though... Good heavy meaty sound.
Glen Danzig was originally in mind to play Jim Morrison in The Doors movie before it went to Val Kilmer.
Danzig was the last concert I saw in California before I moved to Florida in 1989. Good times.
Great reaction to a great ole song!
The opening riff was written by Michael Jackson for "Dirty Diana" as the opening bass line.
Hey guys. One of your Patreons just passed away Saturday. I sent a message to you through his Patreon account to let you know. He mentioned you guys a lot and really liked your series. Throw him a shout out in remembrance the next time you do anything from Rush. Was his favorite band.
About to fall asleep while driving home in the AM, this song came on the radio might have saved my life, enough energy for the rest of the trip.
For some reason my volume knob was higher at the end of the song then it was when I started! Good job gents!
Why have I never heard this? Wow.
Because you are a dancing machine not a Danzig machine?
This song and the first album always remind me of period one freshman year Biology class. There was a group of us who loved Danzig, Samhain, the Misfits. Danzig was the perfect bridge between those of us who watched Headbangers Ball and those who watched 120 Minutes, or both in my case.
Every time I hear this song I immediately think of rallo from the clevland show! So freaking funny 🤣✌️
Saw them open for Ozzy many years ago. I remember when Danzig hit the scene, it reminded me of if Elvis did metal.
Glenn Danzig was the frontman of the punk band The Misfits as well.
