    Haha amazing reaction!
iine! (Ee-neh) is an epic 2nd song for Babymeral to tell the world that they will NOT be constrained by what musical traditions dictates.
And Headbanger from Legend 1997 is the epitome of that classic early Babymetal sound. And an amazing birthday party for our queen Su-metal’s sweet 16th. No other girl on this planet can claim such an amazing birthday show.
That’s not even mentioning the ridiculously brutal and over the top show closer - “BABYMETAL DEATH”

Possibly the oddest song in their catalogue iine, don't worry, most people initially call it Line rather than iine as it's due to spell checking/autocorrect changing the first i either to upper case i or to an L, is a lot of fun. The switch to the rap section is so unexpected first time you hear it and is just 🤩.
This version of Headbanger is one of the most iconic being from the concert to celebrate Su's 16th birthday in December 2013. As you commented their stage presence and crowd interaction is off the charts even in their early/mid teens.
Given these 2 are only 18 months or so apart it illustrates how much they grew and how quickly. A lowish budget MV to a sell out concert with a full live band in such a short time and all at the ages of 16 and 14 in Headbanger.
    On to the next...

    Good double reaction, thanks!
Line is a messaging app (I think), the song's name is "Iine" (with capital "i") pronounced "ee-neh" (I guess) which means "so good" and it's related to the thumbs up "emoji" (which is another Japanese word meaning... emoji 🤣). I have considered "RATATATA" "Iine" v2.0 since it was released and now, Eskimo Callboy's influence has been confirmed by Su-metal in an interview. Yes I know, Electric... "Iine" is from 2011, 11 years before they changed their name. If only they re-record it including Momometal's growls...
It's their second song (their very first is "Doki Doki Morning) according to the official releases, although "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" premiered live before (but it wasn't released until 2013).
"Headbanger" or more properly "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" or "ヘドバンギャー! !" (Hedobangyā!!) is about a girl who attends to her first metal concert on the night of her 15th birthday and that causes a great impact on her. That is the age of the end of the compulsory school in Japan so young people have to make some relevant decisions at that point. So, it's actually about coming on age and leaving the childhood behind with a hint of nostalgia. Not a biographical theme because this is a pretty early song and Su-metal performed it for the first time when she was only 14.
It's an early hit, released in July 2012 and a very loved song. Also it's been used in special events for them like birthday related concerts, even changing slightly the lyrics (15 to 20) on Suzuka and Moa's 20th birthdays and Momoko's last night being 20. The last two are so-called "Moabanger" and "Momobanger"... so, I guess Legend-S' could be called "Su-banger". 😁
So the natural next video should include "Kimi to anime ga mitai" and "Uki Uki Midnight" being the songs released in the same singles as these two, haha...
    Until next time!

It still blows my mind how professional they were and how powerful and confident their stage presence was at such an age ...
When we saw them live in Texas last year, that stage presence indeed was even more powerful, they've done nothing but improve and kick so much ass!
We were the very first US show, in Houston, and from the balcony during stage setup i spotted that Freddy Mercury tribute mic that Su uses exclusively for Headbanger and I freaked out haha. If I'm nit mistaken it was the first time they played it in the US in a few years or longer

Good reaction bro. Doki Doki Morning was the first single (a great tune) iine was the second single, the 3rd was Headbanger and Megitsune and IDZ were 2013, they smashed iine at the PIA Clear night with Momo as an official member for the first time, first time they played it since Yui left in 2017. I also love DDM but especially the version from last January with Metalverse live but the original video is a must.. When you get to IDZ of cores it has to be Sonisphere 2014 simply to see how they turned a crowd of upwards of 60000 ambivalent british metal fans from not really knowing what was going on (and social media threats to boo them off) to chanting one more song at the end, listen for the roar in the breakdown and at the end but then go back and watch the video for it. I love the old video's for the innovation when they had no money to make them. (this is a link to very early live performances of DDM and iine live from 2012, the idol stuff for the second half doesn't do much for me but does show how much younger than their contemporaries they were czcams.com/video/ryxD0RppFVQ/video.html ) Su was spotted by Kobametal age 10 at the break up gig for her first act the Karen Girls who were despanded when the amimia they sang the songs for finished and at 10 he could see she had the voice and stage presence to front a full metal band and she already had a 4 year career behind her doing musical theatre and adverts as well as the Karen Girls by then and Yui and Moa also started very young . All Su has ever wanted to do is sing and it is her obsession, after the 2 year break before the Other One was released she said it was great as not having to look after her throat so much she could sing for 10 to 12 hours a day and I rate her as up there with the best of all time in any genera, wait till you hear Akatsuki unfinished from Legend 1997 and the full version from Budakan black night 2014 and the perfection of vocal skill and interplay between Su and Moa on From 'Dusk till Dawn live at the Budakan 2021 and finally one of my favourite coincidences, When she was 8 a member of Yui's family was very ill and in hospital and she had to stay in a little room at the hospital where she fell in love with an amimia and said her biggest dream was to Join the Karen Girls and sing Over the Future the theme tune with Su, 2 years later she was Picked for the heavy music club (Babymetal) at SG and in one of there ealy shows they covered it, she said her dream had come true.🤘🤘🤘🦊🦊🦊 Keep spreading the love

Great double reaction, that was 'so good' (literally since that is what iine means - think thumbs up emoji👍) but you fell into the trap of calling it Line - don't worry, most people do that.
It was only the second song they released, that was very early in 2012 (it was their third song but IDZ, which was the second song they performed, was released later).
They were clearly establishing very early on that all the usual rules of what you can do, what genres you can mix into one song and so on were not going to apply to BABYMETAL.🦊🤘
What they did here was they tore up all the rules on how music must fit into one of the many imaginary boxes people have in their minds, then they wrote their own rules ... and they tore them up as well. If they want to have a song with EDM, hip hop, death metal and more EDM to finish then that's what they will do.🤘
So EDM, a bit of hip hop/rap and then that drop into death metal (they did warn you - "Yo yo yo yo. Microphone check, one two one two. Are you ready to mosh? Kitsune da o!")
Quite possibly the best drop into death metal from hip hop ever - and then back to the EDM to finish. As the song title suggests - it is so good.👍
In most live versions they swapped the rap and it became a call and response (they kept it in some live performances of course - "BABYMETAL in da house!") ... but that drop is still there.🦊
The growling vocals in the death metal part are explaining the hand sign is not the traditional metal devil horns or maloik,🤘it is the kitsune (fox).🦊

Nice reaction 😀I won't belabor the Iine\Line mistake. It's a dead horse than has been beaten enough and even the streaming analytics can't get it right.
The banging of the gong at the end of Headbanger has significant meaning and is not done all of the time. It symbolizes endings and beginnings, and the Legend 1997 Apocalypse wasn't just Su-metal's 16th birthday party, it was a story of life, death and rebirth. Here the banging of the gong represented muliple things....
    1. The end of J-Pop Idol Suzuka Nakamoto to be reborn as metal goddess queen Su-Metal (see "Babymetal Death" live at Legend 1997 video).
    2. The end of Babymetal as a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin and their beginning as a fully independent group.
    3. The phasing out of the Babybones actors pretending to play instruments and the phasing in of the Kami Band as full-time support at live shows.
Other times the gong was banged to signify the end of a leg of a tour or "Chapter of Metal Resistance" and was banged at all 10 of the 2021 Budokan shows to signify the completion of the Metal Resistance era before Babymetal was "sealed away" (went on hiatus).
You now have about 4 more versions of Headbanger to react too....
    1. Night of 15 Mix with Ave Marie Intro - This techno\club remix was the opening of the Legend 1997 Apocalypse show
    2. Live at Legend M Apocrypha 2019 (AKA, Moabanger) - Moametal sings lead the second half of the song for her 20th birthday and takes "Scream and Dance" to heart.
    3. Live at Legend MM 20 Night 2024 (AKA, Momobanger) - Momometal sings lead the second half for the last night of her 20th before her 21st Birthday. She too takes "Scream and Dance" to heart, but in a different way than Moa.
    4. Yuibanger - Yui taking lead for her 15th Birthday, only fan-cam videos available. Same for Moa's 15th Birthday.
    Kitsune Da O!🤘🦊🤘

    • @Wolfpack94487
      @Wolfpack94487 Před měsícem +1

      Oh yeah, I second that!
Moa´s rendition is a must see and must listen to, too! She said once that she has no desire to take lead, but IF she does, it´s gonna be amazing! Her scream was even more powerful than Su-Metal´s, IMHO.
Well, and Momo´s rendition... left me speechless! It was grandiose, from start to finish. She might be the youngest member, but she´s already beyond amazing!
Yui´s rendition... prepare to suffer the consequences of heavy kawaiiness overdose and loss of your soul. Temporarily, young Yui will give your soul back to you soon after, and it will be much better and more pure than before!!

Gotta point out BM's career (2010 to present, or from ages 11-12 to currently 25-26 although new member Momo is only 21) is already long enough to divide into different life stages.
Relevant to the conversation here, it meant they had already physically outgrown their earliest songs (juvenile-themed songs that birthed the new 'kawaii metal' subgenre) after the mid-2010s. In fact, BM would abruptly enter a 'dark phase' after 2017 (coincidentally as their teenage years were ending) & switched to another unconventional direction (fusing other genres like EDM, Latin, Asian, European folk etc. into metal). Less kawaii more metal, so to speak. It was an audacious career move, given how hard it took to win mainstream credibility in the first place.
BM is still doing the same these days, literally changing subgenres from song to song. Ratatata is the continuation of this creative direction (PA PA YA!!, BxMxC, Monochrome, Kingslayer, Metali!, Leave It All Behind). Note how, despite public demand, they refuse to follow up each hit with the same formula.
Yet, at the same time, BM's earlier classic-era (less metal more kawaii) songs have also proved indelible, so memorably did they capture the zeitgeist of their younger days. Thankfully, many were musically reworkable as the girls grew older (notably anthems like Babymetal Death, Megitsune, Road of Resistance), some are revivable on special occasions (Headbanger, Doki Doki Morning, Akatsuki), a few are too iconic to even instrumentally change (Gimme Choco).
This also meant that a lot others were more or less 'retired' (Sis.Anger, line!, Onedari Daisakusen, Uki Uki Midnight, Song 4, GJ!) since the late 2010s, despite wowing CZcamsrs anew every year, & only occasionally brought back for nostagia's sake. Ijime Dame Zettai (IDZ in short) is arguably the greatest casualty: BM's first attempted anthem (about a young schoolgirl's defiance at being bullied), first performed live in 2011, but which somehow crazily conquered the hypercritical metalheads at Sonisphere UK in 2014. Yet BM would basically stop performing this former concert finale altogether after 2017.

They say that two wrongs don't make a right.
    But that three lefts do.
And 'iine' has a lot of sudden left turns.
This music video is quite early. BABYMETAL were still a sub-unit of the school themed Idol group Sakura Gakuin, described as "The Heavy Music Club".
They already had 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai', a more traditional metal song ready to go, but they released this one and 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' first so they wouldn't be boxed into a single style.
This is the probably the ultimate, "Do you like music genres? We smooshed them all into this one song for you."
'Iine!' is still my favorite EDM Dance Rave HipHop Kawaii Metal song of all time. : )
They hadn't performed this song since 2017, but they busted it back out for nine shows last year.
Even though Su has a beautiful soprano voice, I love that she sings a lot of 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' in a lower register.
That always sounds great. This song was one of their early hits, and it is really a BABYMETAL classic.
Even though the song is about a fifteen year old girl attending her first heavy concert, Su was only fourteen when this was first recorded.
It's not biographical, but it is a song she could relate to. At that age she was performing on stage, rather than taking the train to see concerts. : )

If you look closely at time stamp 11:45 you will see Boh as "happy birthday" written on his head instead of the normal slash graphic as this was for Su-Metals Birthday performance.
If you want to see Headbanger done as dub-step then look up "Babymetal Avamarie", the second part of this video does the Handbanger as a crazy dub-step version. This is the only one (except a recent concert where Su-Metal was too ill to sing) where she lip-syncs. (For all those people that say Su-Metal does lip-sync - she is so bad at it that it is clear that a live show is really live).

Headbanger shows why Moa, Yui and Momo are essential to Babymetal. Su and the Kami band are already 10/10 good, but the energy and crowd engagement that Moa, Yuj and Momo bring, as well as the visual interest of their choreography is what makes Babymetal special for me. I've just started diving into Bandmaid and Nemophila, and those bands are every bit as good as Su and the Kami band. What gives Babymetal the edge in my opinion is the choreo and crowd engagement that Moa, Yui and Momo bring. They turn the dial up to 11 and nothing shows that better than Headbanger.

'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but 15 is significant in Japan as compulsory education also ends, so the girls is realising life will never be the same. She is having to grow up, she will no longer be considered just a child and her first 15 years passed so quickly, so she etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget.
There are other versions of 'Headbanger' from special occasions as well. The Legend D concert in December 2012 for Su-metal's own 15th birthday and the Legend 1997 concert in December 2013 celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday (same concert as you just watched, but it was the opening number) both started with a dance remix version ('Headbanger - Night of 15 Re-Mix').
At concerts on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) took over lead vocals for 'Headbanger' half way through when Su handed them the mic and stand - she took their place in the choreo. Only fancam videos exist for those performances.
In 2019 at the Legend M concert celebrating Moametal's 20th birthday (20 is the official age of majority in Japan) Moa once again took over lead vocals after Su handed her the mic and stand - and the lyrics were changed to "...this special night of my 20th...".
Most recently in March this year at the Legend MM concerts celebrating Momometal's 21st birthday we got her version on the day before her 21st (she was not an official member the year before so she did it to mark the last day when she was still 20).

Babymetal was always a fusion. It's Japanese Idol and Metal. There are a few of these now. Broken by the Scream is my favorite apart from Babymetal. Passcode is the most successful. They are sometimes called alt-idol groups.
Atarashii Gakko is also a great alt-idol group but they are not metal. They're sort of jazz fusion hiphop. But their most popular song is retro Jpop. Otona Blue. Atarashii Gakko also started as a dance group and their dancing is on another level. They would dance in other people's videos in the early days.

@@JasonsSongStop well, Babymetal invented the genre and is by far the most successful. But there are others. Hanabie is kind of similar in spirit. But they are a regular Metal band. They aren't Idols. Same with Band-Maid. They dress up as Maids but they're a real hard rock band. Band-Maid is one Idol and 4 music school graduates. If you watch 1 video you will be able to figure out who the Idol is.
