They are, possibly, using a "string." It's kind of an old time score keeping tool. Beads are strung alond a wire. They are marked with a different color for 5's and there are hanging tabs for the 10's. When you finish your inning you set aside the number of shots you make. Your opponent can check and the beads are slid to your score if he agrees. Haven't seen one in 50 years except a friend's private table.
