  • What a match-up this was going to be. With the white pieces, we have the young American talent Hans Niemann and with the black pieces we have Indian prodigy R. Praggnanandhaa. This happened in the 8th round of the World Blitz Championships 2023. Hans playing with white played the Italian and went all out to blow his opponent off the board. But Pragg is not an easy opponent to subdue. Check out who came out on top, in this highly stressful encounter.

I hate to see internet trolls and talking heads talk about Hans. Many of the top chess players have quirky personalities and the online cheating scandal as a youth does not take away from him brilliant play. These guys all work very hard and for the most part are very young.

Niemann makes distracting movements with his body while Pragg's clock is running. (5:22, 6:55) Pragg should pause the clock and complain to the arbiter, but he doesn't need to. Pragg is a class act as well as a world class chess player. He saw far ahead of Niemann's attack, neutralizing it while ensuring a winning pawn endgame.

Sacrifice on h6 cane in consideration, too. It was obvious that Praghnanaandha was scared and in bug trouble, but it was also obvious that Hans was feeling unwell. why they play so slow? playing on increment in the middle-game already? for video content creator its nice, but for them its a (k)nightmare. Hans had such a solid advantage. he could have just waited with 1min on the clock to let him find good moves. Instead he opens up the position.

Well Pragg had to use time to not get mated, defend everything. Hans had +2 at one point but just couldn't find the win, probably was looking for mating attack and couldnn't find it so changed directions or something. I guess you could beat them both :)

@@PaulGoldstein yeah i thought so, that i might not have lost it with +2 and 10sec for Pragg. maybe he would have accepted my draw offer at that point :) for normal wins at world cup stage i need to pre-arrange it :D

Pragg won. A good indicator for the future is pay attention to where the kings are placed at the end. If both are in black squares, black wins and vice versa. If on both black and white squares, it's a draw.
