  • in this video number {772} i explained and demonstrated How To Repair SMPS Step By Step. How To Repair SMPS || SMPS Repair Step By Step || Switch Mode Power Supply . it is UC1842, UC2842, UC3842, UC1843, UC2843, UC3843, UC1844, UC2844, UC3844, UC1845, UC2845, UC3845, based current mode controller switch mode power supply circuit. these ics are most commonly used in battery charger, power supply circuits, laptop charger adapters and tv power supplies. i demonstrated how to troubleshoot using multimeter and oscilloscope. because a smps circuit is electronic components based power converter, which takes line voltage, then converts it into dc voltage. afterwards these DC voltage are chopped in high frequency based pulse width modulation PWM based IC and the power mosfet, which are passed through a power transformer, after transformer, it will rectified into dc voltage. a feedback circuit is incorporated to maintain the voltage regulation. some circuits have a current limiting / current regulation circuit.

The best way to learn from this video is to get just pen, print out data sheet and take all notes and go along, pause rewind until you get it on the paper, take all notes, pause rewind again! And conforme that you know what every resistor or diode does in circuit and then you move to live PCB! When i start electronics i didn't quite understand what is "start up circuit for IC" and that cause me a lot of trouble. But Haseeb makes this grate videos explaining every step, so consider yourself lucky to have this kind of knowledge just served out! Thanks Haseeb.

One quick observation, which you should probably advise in this video:
ALWAYS use an isolation transformer when you're using an oscilloscope for troubleshooting the PRIMARY of any SMPS!!!
In fact, I guess you are already using one (not shown in this video), or maybe your oscilloscope is not "grounded", otherwise we should have seen some big sparks when you are connecting the GND of the oscilloscope to the negative HV on the PSU primary. 😲

I have another safetytip for you. Many SMPS chips like the one you have in this video, can work at much lower voltages than the 220V/110V line voltage. Often - but not always unfortunately - 35V is already enough. You can find the necessary minimum input voltage in the datasheet for your chip.
So buy yoursef a basic AC/AC transformer that can output 25V AC (or more) or an AC/DC adapter that can produce 35V DC (or more). Use that output as input for the SMPS under test.
It can save you a lot of premature gray hairs.

Great tutorial, already like comment subscribe.
I'm from Indonesia, I have a problem with the SMPS on the "ANJING" brand battery charger made in China using IC UC3842B on leg 7 (imput) with a voltage of 12 - 14 VDC, on leg 6 (output) there is a pulsating voltage of 0,5 - 1.5 VDC which goes to the MOSFET gate 7N65, on the drain leg the voltage is 210 vdc connected to the transformer leg, primary Elko voltage 320vdc, output 0 vdc, where do you think the problem is sir? I removed and checked several important components in the primary and secondary which had normal values...
In this conditions, is the UC3842B still normal or is there a problem? Thank You
