    I think Deacon was out of line here. As far as I am aware Doug never undercut Deacon in any way to be offered the position. Doug is who the higher ups chose. I can understand Deacon feeling a bit upset about the decision, but I can't understand why he is upset at Doug about it when the decision wasn't Doug's decision to make. Deacon wouldn't have turned down the opportunity if it was offered to him, so he can't really be angry or upset at Doug for not turning down the opportunity that was offered to him.

      Started not to reply here but from your comment I know you're not Black and would be hard for you to understand because you are looking at this from a perspective that gives you no clue how he feels! I am in my sixties and Black and it was common practice for Black people who were qualified or even better qualified to get passed over for promotion. No, he's not mad at Doug he's just bitter about the thought that it could have been racial! Today it's a totally different story and by no means the way it use to be! People who support BLM are ignorant to the facts and these young kids have no clue what racism was really like! Companies understand that the bottom line is what you bring in and they want to get the most for their money and if they see that the person is Black, Asian, Hispanic or whatever they'll probably put that person in the position! There is more opportunity than ever for anyone to succeed and if they don't then I would question their effort! Does racism still exist, sure there are some not liking another for their color but like Polio it will soon be eradicated!

    • @jeremyweekes2126
      @jeremyweekes2126 Před 2 lety +6

      @brown Lee, you & the other commenters in this thread are missing the point. Doug was not the one who made the decision. He was simply asked if he wanted to take on the job & he accepted. Whether or not the decision was racially motivated is up for debate, but even if it was racially motivated, that was not Doug's doing. So for Deacon to take it out on Doug is unfair of Deacon. If he has a problem with the decision, then he needs to address it with the right people (ie, the people who made the decision).

      @@stuckonautomatic Based on what the white man in the beginning of this episode told Deacon and Doug, the main reason those two were even being considered for that position over all the others was because those two had been working there the longest. The other people there were not even a consideration for that position since it was being based on tenure. So if it was indeed being based on tenure, then Deacon should have definitely been their first choice since he had been working there longer than Doug. Remember the episode where Doug and Carrie were reminiscing about how they met. Doug didn't have a job during the time they started dating and was too embarrassed to tell Carrie. For some reason they happened to be near the company where Deacon worked one day and Doug pretended to work there. He went inside the building and met Deacon that day and begged him to lie to Carrie and tell her that he worked there when she told him she would be stopping by his job later on that day to see him. So Deacon definitely deserved to be considered for that position way before Doug for several reasons. The whole message behind this episode was to depict a real life illustration of work place discrimination against black people.

      Deacon actually started working at that company before Doug. In the throwback memory episode of how Doug and Carrie first met, Doug pretended to work there when he lied to Carrie about having a job. That episode showed him meeting Deacon for the first time when he asked Deacon to go along with his lie after Carrie stopped by. So technically Deacon should've been considered for that position over Doug, but I know firsthand how things like this goes so Deacon was definitely right to be suspicious of why he wasn't considered first for that position.

For example, when deacon planned that trip to Atlantic city and doug spent it mainly with him throughout it and also played tennis with him and his wife. It all comes down to recommendations. And of course the guy recommended someone he possibly saw as a friend.
