I love Ramadan, i'm always excited for it. I fasted before i was muslim because the mental clarity and energy it gives me is immense.
Scientifically your body goes into a state of lipolysis. In medical terms it's the mechanism where the body breaks down dietary fat or stored fat into absorbable form to be used as energy by the cells.
Your brain runs BETTER on fat than it runs of carbohydrates, AND your energy levels will be consistent throughout the entire day instead of spikes. This is all supported by science and doctors with specialties in metabolism.
Only people who shouldn't fast is the people with type 1 diabetes.
Edit: Mufti Abu Layth, Fatty foods is not something to be scared of during Ramadan, fat and protein rich foods will support you tremendously more than foods rich in carbohydrates. The reason for this is that once you intake more than 50-100 g carbohydrates your body leaves the state of lipolysis and it takes a couple of hours before you can run on fat again. Key takeaway here is that your body can only run on 1) Fat and protein at once. 2) Only glycogen. So your body has to use up all the glycogen before lipolysis can start again

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet (PBUH) to inquire about the worship of the Prophet (PBUH). When they were informed, they considered their worship insignificant and said:
"Where are we in comparison with the Prophet (PBUH) while Allah has forgiven his past sins and future sins". One of them said: "As for me, I shall offer Salat all night long." Another said: "I shall observe Saum (fasting) continuously and shall not break it". Another said: "I shall abstain from women and shall never marry". The Prophet (PBUH) came to them and said, "Are you the people who said such and such things? By Allah, I fear Allah more than you do, and I am most obedient and dutiful among you to Him, but still I observe fast and break it; perform Salat and sleep at night and take wives. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah does not belong to me". [AI-Bukhari and Muslim] [Riyad as-Salihin 143]

Not speaking of MALM but in general. They'll use it when it benefits their narrative but when it doesn't they'll dismiss it.
In the case of Ramadan they will use whatever benefits science say it. Yet, they'll go off the deep end for a Virgin Birth.

@@heerarodriguez9563 Miracles in scripture do not have to agree with our understanding of the laws of nature and what little about it we are sure of. We aren't even certain what space really is. We only have our own perception. Just on this tiny Earth, millions of species experience space around us drastically differently. Time is relative from a bee to us. This is to say we do not know anything.

@@Farrukhsiyar159 you can't appeal to reason to justify the narrative yet dispel it when it goes against the narrative. Thats the hypocrisy I'm speaking of.
Of course we don't know everything but if a religious scripture were to tell you that God was in the shape of an elephant (Hindusim) or that doing a bitter water test to verify adulterous woman (Old Testament) you'd laugh at it and say tia unreasonable and ridiculous and you wouldn't extend your explanation for Islamic miracles to them.

@@heerarodriguez9563 The essence of the argument goes back to a belief in a Creator. If you do believe some One, some Thing created all of this, nothing is outside the realm of possibility. The laws of physics could fall off the edge in another part of the galaxy. We'll never know. But if you do cross that bridge into belief, then absolutely nothing is out of the question. We fall back on reason for everything worldly. And for extra-worldly affairs, we leave that to the Messengers.

    • @heerarodriguez9563

@@Farrukhsiyar159 Thats if you believe God interferes with His own laws that he mandated. No one is saying that God can't. The question is would He?
The Quran constantly calls people to reason by looking at the creation. Allah SWT created all things by the laws he has imposed on the universe. For Him to have laws that are consistent to be broken (miracles) then that dismantled when Allah SWT tells us to use our brains and hearing and use reason. How can we be told to use reason in almost every other ayat yet we don't when it comes to miracles which, in the Quran itself, are quite ambiguous and are not clear cut in either way. Do we use the traditions of our fathers father or use what Allah SWT told us to use, our intellect? Allah SWT warns us of following our fathers.

@Mufti Abu Layth, if Ramadan and in-turn "Siyaam" is a blessing and not a burden, then how do you explain the following ayat that are clear that Siyam is prescribed when there is a wrong done by a person, take for example (4:92), (5:89), (5:95) and (58:4). And while you are at it might as well also explain how you reconcile the (19:26) where Maryam is asked to .فَكُلِي وَٱشۡرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيۡنٗاۖ فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡبَشَرِ أَحَدٗا فَقُولِيٓ إِنِّي نَذَرۡتُ لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ صَوۡمٗا فَلَنۡ أُكَلِّمَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ إِنسِيّٗ which is genrally translated as "So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] man.' " Clearly this abstention is not from "Food".

Fasting is a humbling experience, it does make sense for it to be prescribed when a wrong is done by a person so that that person can look within himself and be humbled. For example When I'm fasting I can think of numerous occasions in which I would have lashed out in anger, however because of the introspection I've done because of fasting I remained calm and handled situations better. So fasting is absolutely a blessing from which a person can benefit not only physically but more importantly spiritually.
This is taken from my own experience I'm in no way a scholar of our beautiful religion 😊

Salamu alaikum Mufti. Ramadan Mubarak. Must diabetic patients fast? Is it not fanaticism for sick and old and traveller to insist they must fast, despite the clear injunction from Quran and Sunnah that those categories are exempted? The reason I ask this question is that, in Nigeria, even pregnant and breast feeding mothers fast. Also, even if someone is on transit, the culture has made it impossible to eat. It's a serious taboo in this part of the world to eat during Ramadan, unless the person is dieing on hospital bed. Thank you.
