I remember an interview years ago. when the silly interviewer asked if she thought the class system had broken down. She replied, 'of course it has, or I wouldn't be sitting here talking to someone like you.'. Oh for the days before political correctness.

You feel better for listening to Dame Barbara,. She said once , of her appearance, this is my platform , people listen and look on, to see you - do you imagine people would pay attention if I appeared wearing beige and wearing curlers !!! You make yourself more attractive so you have more to contribute and give to others. Loved the evening she was on Wogan and had an argument with Jackie Collins about books she disapproved of, he got on the floor behind the settee to get out of the firing line !

If only she’d had toned down her appearance she would have been taken more seriously. She is always very interesting and entertaining to listen to.

    I don't understand a word she's saying. She's grotesque.

She was a very intelligent and successful woman. I would say her clothes and personal styling are somewhat over the top for a woman of her age, but "grotesque" I think is a bit harsh.

Grotesque? Sorry you think that about this wonderful lady who became one of the best selling authors of all times. I started reading her romantic novels when I was in high school; 45 years ago!! I found her to be a very talented writer and savvy business woman; in her life time she wrote 720+ romance novels and made billions of dollars for it.

If English (UK) is not your mother tongue, yes it is a challenge to follow her. She not only had a fast brain but also a fast tongue... And a self-esteem beyond measures. She was one of those British excentrics...

I do understand what he was trying to say,she does powder her face a lot, however she seemed like a very delightful person with very impressive accomplishments.
