Even games like Fzero GX and Rouge Squadron 2 run at 60FPS with no issues!

It isn't an active decision that we have all these apps (since they get deleted from the store in a day when the go up)
@@atomickidI think we should give them credit for making this available and for not caring about emulators being ran through dev mode. They’re very lenient relative to their competitors, and they know people are buying dev mode for emulation. It’s not exactly unreasonable to give MS credit for making this hugely available in the first place when they didn’t have to.

Dolphin developers have been such wizards from the beginning. I used to love gamecube games when the emulator became available, and being able to use the included tools and have it work on the low end laptops i used to have was just amazing. The team and everyone who has worked on dolphin have my deepest respect. I hope the project has nice surprises like this in the future.
That said. I don't have an xbox. Well i have the old one but nothing modern. But. I enjoy that they port the emulator to just about everything. And get it working as smooth as they do.

Pretty sure the normal dolphin devs have nothing to do with this. It's a completely separate fork from the main dolphin branch.
They can't get controls right and no one answers about this on the forum. They are wizards at everything but understanding how gamecube analog triggers work cause there are multiple games where trigger functions don't work at all, for example from russia with love and defender, and they don't even understand it themselves. Try it when following THEIR instructions, the one answer they gave me on the forums one time about it. Try hold down the left trigger to aim in FRWT then shoot. Good luck!
Or try holding down RT to accelerate in defender. If you depress the trigger fully it will not work, the ship comes to a dead stop. It only works within the analog range of the controller but it's not even a game that responds to analog speed control. So you need to disable the analog emulation in controller setup and assign the triggers to LB and RB only then it will work. Deadzone also has something to do with it but I can't work it out personally and I can't get a single response about it. This affects absolutely every game in the library that uses the triggers as buttons, i.e., not for analog control. EVERY game.
This has happened for me over the course of 5 completely different systems in over a decade and multiple different OS and over 10 different controllers, from xbox wired, to one bluetooth, to 8bitdo, to Gulikit and many more. If you follow the developer's instructions of assigning your LT and RT to both LT and RT triggers AND the LB and RB in dolphin, which is supposed to emulated both the analog movement and the actual button press when you depress the triggers, it just doesn't work properly. PERIOD.
The only workaround I can find is to not assign the analog part and only assign the button part to games that don't use the analog function of the trigger, and only assign the analog part for games that DO use analog. I have only been trying to tell them this for YEARS and they can't seem to get it, so wizards at some things, not so much at others.
Unless you consider the SteamDeck a console.
I just tried Dolphin since last year and I was surprised for the level of performance it has for Gamecube games. Compared to other older emulators for other consoles, it's a very well done project.

Shader compilation when starting a game is much better than the alternative of having lags or glitches in game due to it having to compile them on the fly. At least for lower-mid tier hardware this is true - for the higher end hardware, it usually doesn't matter as much.

I'm really, really happy with this emulator. My televisions only go up to 1080p and the games look just fine that way... and as you've said, it runs GameCube games better than any other low-spec machine... aside from the Wii trio of systems, of course. Having to change settings on a home computer really sucks, though.

It's pretty awesome that powerful hardware is getting cheap and mature emulators like dolphin see so much optimization. So much is fully playable WELL above the capabilities of the original hardware.

One of my first thoughts when I got Dolphin configured in Retail on the Series S was to game stream GameCube, Wii, PS2 on my Retroid Pocket 3 via the Xbox app. I was not disappointed with the result, thanks to these Retail emulators performance on my Retroid has gone through the roof. This would also work with any handheld that supports Xbox game streaming, provided your wifi is up to the task, mine @ 975MB/s does the job.

It works like a dream. Installed it 2 days ago on my Series X. I can't believe I'm playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii at a better resolution than my Switch version...on an Xbox!
The switch instalment is a completely game that is enhanced version of u with its expansion, which is a lot better game than wii. Also those non hd assets standout in wii at certain points when rendered at higher resolution.
So the switch instalment looks a quite a bit better.

3:33 Rogue Squadron 2 was released in 2001, more than 20 years ago and still looks amazing.
It's almost perfect I just wish there was dolphin bar support or GC controller support for Xbox. I mean yeah I can do that on pc but would be super cool to just do it on the TV
I set this up yesterday and Ive been playing Mario Sunshine @ 1440p with widescreen and 60fps cheats applied. It's like a religious experience. Also been playing Metroid Prime 1 and Wind Waker with HD textures packs, they look stunning. I never liked the WiiU port of Wind Waker, the changes they made to the lighting ruined the art style for me a bit. So now I have my own Wind Waker HD that is true to the original look.
F-Zero GX also runs at full speed without dips. I'm very excited about that as it's probably my all-time favourite racer but very demanding to emulate.
What a time we live in, when moderate-price retail machines can do this.

Series S is an awesome little machine, suited also for a desktop setup or second gaming machine while tinkering at a PC.
And it's no problem when your not into emulation (like I am not) because there are quite a lot of newer and older (from XBox 360) games on this machine!

Something come to my mind that doing emulation on games,then worry about copyrighted music but not about copyrighted games.

The Main reason I want a Series S for Emulation is because the Raspberry pi is just not worth the cost anymore and you can play more consoles. and you get a controller

only game i couldn’t get the Series S to run properly was Guitar Hero 3. everything else i throw at it works great! i do recommend dev mode just because the discord was a headache back when i tried

That star wars game looked about the same as the 1980s arcade version. Just added color to the game. Have you been able to source a first gen ThreadRipper to test out emulation for all the different consoles - even the newest ones? I'd imagine you shouldn't have any trouble getting highest performance out of each one. PC gaming should be a breeze too. It would be cool to see how much performance can be gotten from one of them.

Fantastic video! Thanks for putting it together. Quick question: if I install Dolphin in dev mod, do I also need to run it in dev mode - or can it be run in retail mode after it's installed?
You do have to decide on which you want, whether it's on retail or dev mode .
Eta prime is just doing the retail mode version cause mvg did a video on how to install it in the dev mode side.
It's really up too you, you just gotta remember that every time Xbox updates, you'll lose the emulators you do have to also back up your saves to your usb so you won't lose progress each time you have to download the emulators again.
On Dev mode you don't have to worry about any of this.

@@SeriousKeto correct, once installed in dev mode you can only use dolphin on dev mode however you can have dolphin on both sides retail and dev mode, however it'll only confuse you if you're not familiar with how the file structuring goes it can be quite confusing till you get the hang of it...
What I will say is, if you do decide to install on dev mode, you do have a better compatibility range, then retail mode. Retail mode does have great compatibility however my previous comment is an indication of why retail mode can be a bit of a hassle and there extra precaution to take to not lose any data everytime we get a new update on the retail side of things.

Ill add in here if you do want better speeds or a way to properly manage everything I would suggest an SSD bank I have a 1tb m.2 SSD inside a SSD bank connected to the Xbox and gives me easy access to add in games and go back and forth with. However if you don't like the aesthetic, a 512gb or 1tb SD card to USB 3.0 reader is much faster then a regular USB 3.0 devices.
It'd be awesome if we could get the dolphin bar and GameCube controller adapter working with this

The lower end Xbox goes on sale for dirt cheap, too. I got mine for $99 at AFES, for example, making this one of the cheapest ways to do gamecube, especially considering you get a good controller.

Did you get a chance to test the performance for that much? It had a lot of issues on Retroarch, and Gale of Darkness is one of my favorite GC titles, I'm dying to see it in a stable, playable state.

I'm on dev mode for like a year and still using it. I think they were only removing people with dev mode that haven't logged in, in a long while.
I used to play underground 2 on dolphin emulator on my old pc build that had a 2060 and i510400 cpu and never had any lag, always had max fps. So if your struggling with a 3080ti idk homie
These older titles look amazing at higher resolutions.
I would sure love to try emulating on consoles like the XBOX Series X/S if I want to play with my games. I can play with games like N64, GameCube, GameBoy up to GameBoy Advance, DS, PlayStation and PlayStation 2. I would really love to try it out.
