🤣🤣🤣
Jaja Facts 😅
😮
Actually....when I leave....The world is over. I've been in Mexico 18 years...best move of my life....viva Mexico
Kk
As my husband and I prepare to move "back" to our home country I've been watching a lot of videos where more and more people are recognizing Mexico for what it actually is a beautiful country, with beautiful people and so much to give. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️🙏🏽
That is awesome! Glad to hear you guys are coming back home. You said it! Mexico is paradise despite what others might say about it. Viva Mexico!
Love your videos José! I believe you are correct; México is coming into their place in the world. My Mexican husband and I live in our forever home in La Paz BCS. We are not interested in returning to the US to live. I enjoy your tours both walking and driving of your beautiful city Merida. You and your family are welcome to come visit us here wherever you want to experience our corner of Baja. Saludos!!!
That is awesome! Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy the videos so much! Saludos y Viva Mexico!
Yeah the camera mount is perfect and of course the walk anywhere in this fabulous place is always fantastic..!
Awesome! Thank you so much! I think I will start strapping it to my chest from now on, it was a lot easier to move around and I feel like I got better shots as well. I think I just gotta tilt the camera a bit more upwards next time. But hey not bad for the first attempt! Thanks for letting me know! Much appreciated!

@JoseArteagaTravels I will let anyone I know who is interested in living in mexico about your channel it's just that good. Me and my cousin started watching your channel yesterday now I can't stop😂 if you can in one of your videos share with us some of the price ranges in homes for sale in the area thank you.
@@genepadilla7754 That is awesome! Glad you guys are loving the channel so much! As for how to find home prices, You can watch this video for more info czcams.com/video/hSaGVFFIruE/video.html
Funny true story, my wife worked in a U.S. hospital and the hospital would send Scouts to Mexico looking for nurses for the U.S. shortages they would offer bonuses, cars and help with homes and they still had a hard time finding nurses becouse they did not want to leave Mexico and there families, lived in Mexico over 45 years never seen a cartel war not even a shooting, not to say it cant happen, I don't feel unsafe at all in Mexico, go where I want, when a want, just be smart, you don't park your car on the street with a home stereo set on your front sets, most stuff is panni anie, not to say nothing can possible happen it can happen anywhere, the cartel's and crime is exaggerated push be exaggerated news report and fake $$$click videos about the cartels,. even the president of Mexico said Mexico is safer then many places then in the U.S. when of the many things I like about Mexico "THERES NO KARENS"
Love it. Me too! Some leave because they can't be karens in Mexico. Nobody would encourage that behavior.
Well said! Wow thanks for sharing your story as well! Goes to show you what really matters at the end of the day. Viva Mexico!
No Karens ?? I'm moving there...
Exception: there are more than a few Karens (of both genders) who’ve settled in San Miguel de Allende. That’s what happens when an otherwise beautiful Mexican city gets overrun with EEUU expat bluestaters and then don’t learn from the good manners of their Mexican hosts.
@@gustavoperez5480 hahahaha that's what I like to hear amigo !

Saludos y Viva Mexico!
I love walking around el centro with Jose.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed taking a walk with me!
Love your low key no nonsense videos Jose, keep them coming....
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
I can't wait to get there. I have already had my interview at the Chicago consulate. I have met the criteria for permanent residency. Ahhhhh
Awesome! Congratulations!
San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, is the by far the cheapest and, according to many Mexicans and foreigners alike, the most beautiful. According to a former Méxican president, "San Cristóbal de las Casas es el pueblo más mágico de todos los pueblos mágicos de México." Thanks for the awesome videos jose. I love the way you drive around the neighborhoods, thats what sold me. You show real Mexican life. Not all the fancy schmancy stuff. Because of this i just booked my first trip to Merida and will be coming in September!

Great walking tour jose! One of the main things i love about Mexico (outside the big cities) is the lack of high rises..the buildings are human scale 2 and 3 story.
I totally agree! You really have to go out of your way to see them! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jose, I found this video very enjoyable to watch. It was as if I was walking the path with you. It was nice to see the people of Mérida walking around and not a lot of expats, which is what you get with expat videos. I will be moving to Mérida in about a week and I’m a senior on a fixed income, so I plan to live modestly. As you stated, there are areas in the U.S. where I could have moved but it would have been out in the sticks with nothing around. I’d have to have a shotgun and pistol at my bedside just to feel safe at night. In Mérida, I am safe and have modern conveniences at my fingertips. Who could ask for better?
Thank you so much and very well said! I didnt even think about that but you are right, much better to live out here in the jungle than to try and survive back in the good old usa these days. Congratulations on your move and good luck with everything!

My friend says that America is now here to make some dollars and fly away quickly. Only come 3 to 4 months to get some dollars. Because if you stay, everything goes to expenses
Facts and as time goes on there will be less and less of a need and desire to come to the US at all
I love the walk and talks and really see Mexico up close and personal!
Awesome! Stay tuned for more in the near future!
José, you’re so right. I was watching a CZcamsr that was house hunting, and she kept looking at this brand new homes that looked more “American.” She was also looking for one that great amenities.
Look, Mexico is big, and there are a lot of ways to travel. People, especially if they’re retired, take your money and leave modestly, and if you didn’t get the chance to travel much in the US, then do that in Mexico. There are many beaches, mountains, cenotes, etc. to explore. Living modestly can also help to save money to travel abroad. That’s the way I see it. Great video!
Very wise words and great advice! Thank you for sharing!
Loved this walking video, Jose'.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
I had the oportunity to work in Merida in 2010, 2013 and 2018. I LOVE Mérida, my favorite city in Mexico, even with its high temperature (that can be cooled down with an agua de chaya). I used to had walks like this one every weekend, specially when I was staying at Holiday Inn in paseo Montejo. Buen video viejo!
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Jose, budget, budget and more budget on how you spend your income.
Facts! Very well said! That will ultimately determine how long you will survive out here

Love the walk & talks. I remember your previous videos years ago with the method. Same area in Centro. You tell it like it is . Past and present
That's right! Back in the day most of my videos were like this! No worries more walks and talks coming soon!

I know you said that social security won't get you an upper middle class life anymore, but as a single guy, can I still survive on $1,600 a month in Mexico?
It sucks living on that in Florida.
Yes you can it all depends on you and your expenses and budgeting
Google the average income of what an average Mexican lives on. I don't really drink but I do have a beer every now and then. I live in an upper class neighborhood where I can walk to get everything I need. I only use my car to drive me and my surfboard to the beach and to go to the "Big" mercado when I'm unable to carry all of the things I'm buying. I go out to eat a few times a week and the most I've ever spent is $1,200us per month. $1600us per month is considered middle class in Mexico. You won't be able to just survive you'll be able to live life like a Rey!
But you still have to qualify financially to get your residency... and that's NOT enough to qualify.
What type of lifestyle would $5000 per month get?
Easily. San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, is the by far the cheapest and, according to many Mexicans and foreigners alike, the most beautiful. According to a former Méxican president, "San Cristóbal de las Casas es el pueblo más mágico de todos los pueblos mágicos de México." I've lived for extended periods in both Yucatán (Merida, Chichén Itza, Valladolid) and San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, and San Cristóbal de las Casas takes the cake.
Thank you for another fantastic video.

Saludo from Chapala. Correcto, it's all about one's mindset. Really enjoy this pov, it's excellent. Looking forward to the next.
Awesome, thank you! Viva Mexico!
Don't worry about anything. Americans who don't have travel experience, whether they move to Mexico, parts of Europe or parts of Africa, they will not be able to instantly adapt to the culture. I've noticed that several you tubers who moved to Merida, they wound up coming back to the United States. An inexpensive place, doesn't mean that it's a good fit. Before moving anywhere, especially if you don't have travel experience, consider visiting for 3 - 6 months.
Very good advice! I totally agree! Thanks for sharing!
Hola José, From the title of this video, I thought you might be leaving Merida, Yikes, glad that’s not so. Great video by the way. On my way to Progreso in October to complete my residency. You and your wife should head out to the beach and join me for a Cerveza. Keep up the Great work!
Awesome! Congratulations! Thanks for the kind words!
Your "walks & talks" are so informative...and reinforce my dream to move there. My SS would go further there (no car needed) & living as a local, I am so ready to escape the American way of life, just have no idea what start-costs related to rentals, etc. would be. Hoping to contact you soon, Jose!
This is a beautiful neighborhood ❤ Is it higher $ than Passeo Montejo?
So glad the videos are so helpful! This area is south of El Centro and Paseo Montejo
Pricewise comparable or higher than Paseo Montejo? I have seen affordable rentals all over Merida, how do we know which Colonias are maybe better?
Where ever you decide to live as long as your in an area where you can walk or ride a bike to what you need, I believe it makes all the difference but then again I like to be near the goings on now that I am older, I don't want to be a recluse, as you probably know they celebrate holidays with a bang, kinda how we used to in the states and I love that about Mexican culture.
I want to wish you good luck on your dream, if you want it you can make it happen, look up Duolingo, they offer a free language program to learn Spanish, once you move there look for a group you can join where both expats and Mexican people learn from each other, so many are eager to learn and practice English than you can help each other out and make some friendships.

What is cost of 1 and 2 bedroom rentals???? What's cost of 2 bedroom house??? How much is cable tv satellite TV an internet cost
You can find out more by watching this video czcams.com/video/hSaGVFFIruE/video.html
I think it would be WISE for the Mexican Government to create laws that put limit on buyers rent cost. Right now, their cost of salary is low but their currency goes so much further and they get so much more for their money than many nations. IN this day and age that is a very strong point for their country. What will happen, especially in this growing surge of foreigners wanting to buy up Mexican properties, investors are in fact raising prices sky high than what their native property owners who s income and living is Mexican, to have investors come in buy property near tourist spots, then jack up prices to like Cayman islands prices almost, is in the long run going to cause harm to the country. Tourism and money it brings is very important to Mexico and the citizens. So the government limiting either sales to non born Mexicans, or limit the amount they can raise rent should be first priority. YES they will get higher revenue for taxes if they get people to rent there paying higher amount, but a lovely place with low cost is the large point people will consider this place to travel vs Americas or other places with oceans.
America wanting the tourism money to be spent here in the US competes with Mexico. So exaggerating problems there is bad enough. I have seen some non Native Mexicans who buy property jacking up prices for tourists so they can get rich. THAT hurts tourism. THEIR strong point is, cool places, ocean beaches and affordable. They should hang on to their strong points at all costs. Shame on greedy people wanting to get rich off of Mexican land, and not consider what that will do to tourism the more they jack the prices up.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
The skies are so clean out there in Mérida and the streets are kept very clean; much better than the polluted industrial wasteland of my Central Californian city.
Yes it is awesome out here i totally agree!
This is great to hear. I think i'm going to be very careful about other you tube channels. I heard someone say Merida had awful pollution.
I like you videos...the bait click titles not so much. Mexico, it's wonderful people, and beautiful culture exists regardless of what "dream" titles people invent and chase.
I'm not sure if u tubers are helping more than hurting.
Thank you for the kind words. Not sure what you mean by click baity. If you mean I am trying to get more people to watch my videos then yes you caught me red handed. The reality is that the dream is over for many a lot quicker than they anticipated but for others it has not. I only speak from experience and you know as well as I know Mexico is not for everyone and many people are not ready for all the changes that come from living in another country. I can't speak for other youtubers but what I try to show in my videos is the reality of what it is to live in Mexico. The good, the bad, and the ugly so that the viewer can get a true feel for what it is like to live in Mexico before they make any decisions. I get just as many thank yous from people letting me know I saved them from making a costly mistake in moving to Mexico. We can all make our own options as to what is going on and then there is the reality of what is going on. Thats why I point the camera forward and let it speak for itself. Thanks again for sharing. Saludos
Thank you for your thoughtful response. It's nice to see you are the real deal, in my opinion! By click bait tile, I mean the headline " is the Mexican dream over" hurts me personally because I love it here! The dream is never over. Many unhappy expats move here for price only ( as you've stated 70% won't assimilate) . The simple truths you state so well in your vids , don't need catchy titles that cause a click, in my opinion.
That's all I was trying to express and so sorry I did not state it more clearly!
Thank you for what you do!
I will continue to watch!

Remisas and invertira in Mexico has pushed the dollar down. But the remisas have been around a long time. Now their is a push for near shoring. Plants in Mexico will be exporting to US. If the peso is too high over time it will motivate business to make it somewhere else. Politically about the only thing the 2 parties in the US is that they both have issues with China. But who knows how much nearshoring happens?
ok! Thanks for sharing!

That area of Mérida is a lot nicer than anywhere I have seen in Oaxaca, even the downtown area. However, I am sure it is a lot hotter there. In Oaxaca, the highs this time of the year are around 27 C or 80 F. But watch out for the ¡tembloritos!
80 is winter out here in Merida. We love Oaxaca. Interesting you see Oaxaca as cleaner than Merida. We actually think it is the opposite. But hey i guess it is all in perception. Thanks for sharing!
He said Merida is nicer than Oaxaca
Hoping to move to an area with good public transportation. Higher elevation though. Spent 20 years in Florida. Too damn hot. Lol Funny thing. Much of what you show in your videos reminds me of Florida in the 70s.
Jaja yeah the reason I love it out here so much being a native Floridian is how close it resembles the old Florida some of us actually got to experience and know and love so much. I lived in colder weather climates and I always end up coming back to warmer weather and beaches. i hope you get to find your happy place! Thanks for sharing!
I have watched several of your videos and find them very interesting. I am currently here in Merida for a month to see how I like it and to determine if this will be the best place for me to retire in 22 months. I think I will have a relatively good income from my Canadian pension however I look at the 10 to 12 % mortgage rates and realize that they may not even be available to me because of my age, meaning that I will have to rent for a period and save to purchase outright and that concerns me as well as I know that Canada is not for me, but - is Mexico? that is yet to be decided. In all honesty will annual income of $55,000 USD after tax be sufficient to live a comfortable. I have seen many of your videos and you speak of limited resources or enough but what does that mean in real dollar terms.
You will have around 4,600 USD a Month. An upper Middle class or a bit higher Mexican Family makes around 2,500 a month. You will be fine

I've lived for extended periods in both Yucatán (Merida, Chichén Itza, Valladolid) and San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, and San Cristóbal de las Casas takes the cake.
There is a quote from a movie called "The Edge" if you haven't seen it watch it, anyways the quote is: "What one man can do another can do" I will add man or woman, let that be your mantra and life becomes easier.
That's right! It's all in the power of the mind. Thanks for sharing!

Hello... I live in Chihuahua Capital.
I drive constantly in and out from the border...
One thing I can assure you is that there is some kind of evil vibe , kind of like something is about to explode once you get into the USA.
Not like in Mexico, where even a blind would get the license and drive, I mean the normal chaos from stupid ppl on the road... I am talking hatred there.
So money wether you have or not, it would make sense for ppl to leave a place where peace is not found.
Thank you so much for sharing. Muchas Gracias en compartir con nosotros
When José leaves Mexico, that's when the dream is over 🤣
That's right 😅
Mas mas!
😎
At :52 seconds into the video...the house on the right...is that an abandoned place? Maybe something that might be purchased???
Many properties like that all over the place. Some are easy to purchase once you locate the owner and others are nearly impossible to purchase because it is owned by multiple family members. The best thing to do is to walk up and down the streets and find properties like those and trying to contact the owner to see if it is availble or not.
In Ermita on that street it could easily be 300K US for that ruin plus another 200k to make it livable, minimum. That is within INAH and you couldn't take a crap on that property without two years of permitting and the massive expenses that go with INAH, just a friendly fyi....
Common sense brought me here
Awesome!
Hey there. A lot of talk about the Mexican dream, but you never covered the cost of living. Like what does it cost to rent a house in Merida, etc.?
Great question! I actually cover cost of living in this video czcams.com/video/zai9dq3f0bc/video.html

Quick question
I will be driving into Mexico to avoid having to get a passport for my young son. Do to the fact he needs one to fly in. The question is does he need a passport to fly around Mexico?
Thank you.
Yes Everyone needs a passport to travel by plane. Also your son might also need a passport to cross into the USA even though he is accompanied by you the parent.
Legally he needs a passport and a FMM same as you do when entering Mexico no matter by land or air as this is a foreign country to the USA - and not it’s backyard 😉 Better you respect the Mexican legislation! Btw you will need a permission by his mother as well when under age. Better check that out well before your departure from the USA.
Go to Porta Viarta.
