- The Weeknd released one of the greatest hollow R&B tapes of the decade in 2011. Everytime I listen to this tape it feels like the first time all over again. From CLASSIC records like House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls to Wicked Games & The Party & The After Party this tape is loaded with music that almost makes you feel sorry for the shallow person The Weeknd presents himself as.

It‘s crazy when your first 3 mixtapes are 10s
@@puertoricanprince7690 Agree 100%. It must only get overlooked because it’s the “middle child” of the trilogy. Or maybe even because it’s the only one Fantano didn’t review, or something. Idk.
It’s such an amazing project. My first listen to it was through a pair of great headphones, one of the only times i’ve really felt like a project transported me somewhere lol.
I'm not the only one that wants Shawn to have a podcast just talking about his life and such...just me?

I think he mentioned in a previous video that he doesn’t like talking about himself that much

High for this is enticing and sexy asf! The feeling you get listening to this dark masterpiece is deeply hypnotizing and mesmerizing!
First song I ever heard from the weeknd and its my fav weeknd song still. That first beat drop is ridiculous

This album came out around the time I was in the most toxic and intoxicating relationship of my life thus far. He was the only person I 💘 more than myself. Our communication was horrible even though we could often read each others minds before we would say a word. The sex was like an out of body spiritual experience and feelings kept us together for a rocky 3 years. We both had our vices. We hated that we loved each other. We wanted to keep each other but knew deep down that it wouldn't last. The soul ties were hard to break. I still have never felt a visceral emotional soul connection like that in my life. After we ended I was never the same. I learned and grew a lot from that relationship. The soundtrack of that relationship was The Weeknd, Miguel and Drake 2010 - 2013. The best times to be in the club btw. Those night's with that music playing was magic.
Must've been love on the brain
Finally, I've been telling people this is literally perfect, but no one ever agreed with me.

First time listening to the Knowing after a break up was intense
I didn't feel this project as much when It came out, I was 19 years old and going through so many changes, a lot things where happening. But it really is a masterpiece, it definitely will be a time stamp on music history to take in consideration for the shaping of the sound of the 2010s
From being homeless to performing in Super Bowl. House Of Balloons changed the R&B sound forever and is perfect no lie. And he‘s still making good albums man I'm proud of him.
(Btw when will you drop your R&B album?)
This man just can't loose! Whether it hits for some people or not, he is someone I can say it truly authentic to themselves; one of the most talented people I could think of. If I were to rate each project, it would look like this (the number represent his discography, not a ranking):
11. House of Balloons (9.5/10)
10. Thursday (8/10)
9. Noise EP (6/10)
8. Echoes of Silence (9.5/10)

1. Dawn FM (10/10)
Shawn Cee is getting back in time listening to these albums.
I’m glad you made this. I been listening to this album recently, this album hits different than any other album I’ve heard in my life, so clouded yet cozy...
I can relate, I first started listening to The Weeknd during my freshmen year of high school too. I can remember just loving the sound of his voice and the productions of the beats. I knew the lyrics, and would sing along. But it wasn't until I was 18 and a freshmen in college, that I came to the realization of what Abel was really singing in his songs.
dude you have no idea how much i resonate with everything you just said. thank you for putting the thoughts and emotions that ive had about this album into words
Starting listening to him last year, easily my one of my favorite artists now. Never listened music this relatable
The best mixtape of all time
Top 3 mixtape of the decade, a classic and a masterpiece. The Weekend has never missed.
How funny that you just posted this. I recently just started getting into the The Weeknd, and I just discovered House of Balloons and I’m literally obsessed with it.
I definitely agree with the title of this video. Zodiac/Jeremy Rose is criminally underrated when it comes to influential producers
Criminally! A whole new style/sound was born and we have so much now because of them.
Loft Music is the absolute best song IMO. The beat, the bars, the vocals, its a fucking masterpiece of a song. Loft Music gives me that special feeling as if its the first time im hearing it
a good song, but not a banger imo. Wicked games is still the best song on HOB

I loved the “IYRTITL” video you did and this one. Love hearing your personal connections with all the songs and just them as an artist. It’s what makes me like your channel a lot. House of Balloons is an AMAZING record. Not a single miss. “The Party & The After Party” has to be one of my most fav songs from The Weeknd. Shit makes me want to act up
I have been waiting so long for you to do a video on The Weeknd. you did not disappoint. worth the wait. thank you
I mess with the new transactional relationship Shawn is drawing to the music and his personal experiences and how the aesthetics of a song impacted him at some point in his life. I noticed the shift and I am with it. Love it!

Shawn, I’m loving this series of videos so far, never thought these albums were so good
House of balloons is still my favorite weeknd project. I agree with everything you said in this video!
Party & The After Party was the one for me and till this day if I go back listening to it again I know the lyrics by heart lol. I was 20 when he dropped in 2012 and now I'm 30 thinking like wow I been thru some shit frfr. I'm happy that now Abel in a happy route of being sober and love himself as a human being. For people who listen to The Weeknd from 2011 thru 2022 we graduate together from his music so salute to y'all.

Weekend’s best project hands down besides beauty behind the madness. This is takes the cake . Coming down is forever my favorite song by him & helped me understand everything at young age .
Weeknd when he was at his prime wait naw the Weeknd is still at his prime 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Shawn always been delivering the best videos during quarantine
I love these videos, hearing him talk about the subliminal meaning behind the songs really changes the whole listening experience for me
💯 my bestfriend at the time introduced me to him during highschool and never fell out of love with this album. Truly a piece of art
I could never relate to The Weeknd’s lyrics, but the music was so different yet so good, I immediately became a fan.
i will never forget listening to this album in it's entirety for the first time all the way back when I first found out about him. everyone was loving on his most recent album but I always heard all this talk about Trilogy and how it was the best thing they had ever heard. as SOON as i heard that first drop on High For This i was instantly hooked. and the rest is history, now he is my favorite artist to ever live and he performed at the SUPER BOWL. it's so crazy to see how far he's came but i'm so grateful for this album, it's gotten me through so much shit in my life and will forever have a place in my heart.
Everything this man just said... RELATABLE !! THE WEEKND WAS REALLY A BIG PART OF MY CHILDHOOD.
When I listened to this about a year ago I couldn’t see past his shallowness because I didn’t know there was a meaning behind it. Definitely revisiting
I was a heavy user, abuser, and boarder line alcoholic when I found this album, it was all I listened to for a year straight whilst getting trashed with random people in my massive apartment with no furniture thinking I was living minimal when in fact I was just to lazy, drunk, high, and poor to buy furniture 🤦🏾♂️ I basically based my entire personality around this musical art piece. I remember this and Drake's simp music era (marvins room, trust issues, I get lonely, all being extremely influential in my coming of age story, unfortunately it wasn't a happy ending, I progressed into a fully blown addict by my early 20's and had a daughter I clearly wasn't mature enough to look after so missed the first few years of her life.
I'm now sober and have a great relationship with my daughter, whenever I listen to this album it brings back all kinds of emotion, both good and bad.
Dude I love these reactions man 🙏🏼🔥
Such a good review! Thank you so much for sharing this with us
Ima need more of this series
I also first listened to the weeknd when I was 15. It was just before bbtm was released and it was a really bad part of my life and I felt like I was unconsciously playing the bad guy that orchestrated all the mess I have been in as a defense mechanism just to avoid getting hurt. And that’s why trilogy and kiss land really resonated with me. That’s the reason why the weeknd will forever be special to me and i’m so proud to see how far he has become.
to this day, the intro to Coming Down still gives me goosebumps and puts me in a trance for the whole song. Legendary track.

The Knowing just hits different for me cause I've been cheated on before, almost every relationship in fact and I've never really cried. Like, I'll get sad or whatever, but I just accept it. That track is literally my theme
house of balloons is a timeless masterpiece
Perfect video. I was like 20/21 when it came out. First r&b joint i played in my car.
Nah man you need to keep up these vids, it’s good to see your opinion on albums we’ve never seen you do a first reaction to from before you started.
HOB will always be a masterpiece, when it came out it was so out of the norm of what was popular in music. Now it’s definitely flooded with dark RnB.
The thing about house of balloons is that it has the power to place any one of us with the energy behind it, making it in my opinion maybe the seminal song of this generation. Everyone remembers the first time they heard House.
2013--2014 was when i discovered Weekend and I listened to this album nonstop I do not know why I just did and I still listen to the trilogy every now and then still
