  • The transition from fall to winter means it is time to prepare the Harley for hibernation. The last step in this process is to swap the oil and filter for new. Last year I ran Amsoil's V-twin oil. This year, it came down to using Syn3. Will see how she does. Follow along!

    Good Tip on the hole in the oil filter prior to removing. I use a large clear Wendy’s cup to put over the filter after cracking it loose and then remove it by hand and you can see the oil go into it.
    Good tip and information. Thank you for the video.

    Gotta poke two holes in the filter to drain it. One high to let air in, and one low to drain.

    I use a piece of aluminium foil to cover the engineparts underneath the filter. I shape it somewhat around the filtercartridge to catch the oildrops : almost no spillage on the underlying engine's parts. Good instructive video! Thanks for sharing your way of servicing your bike. Greetings from The Netherlands!👍😎🇳🇱

    FYI Fram makes a filter for these bikes that is far superior to the harley filter and available at wal mart. There’s a video on here showing the fram vs harley internals and I’m never buying a harley oil filter after seeing how bad they are…. Thanks for the video!

      I gotta do it again here this week. May get one or two more rides in then time to dump all three holes and add some Amsoil.

    Shows exactly where the oil drain plug is, I was looking under the crank, but it's under the trans. My first time changing the fluids on my new to me 14 Ultra Limited.

    Which oil is better synthetic or non synthethic for the 2017 ultra limited ?

    • @OutdoorsEngineer
      @OutdoorsEngineer  Před rokem

      Up to you. I think synthetic is better and you probably will see more votes for synthetic on the internet. What does your owners manual say?
      FYI, 2 years later I now switched from the Harley Synthetic to Amsoil Synthetic in all three holes. Amsoil Engine Oil, Primary Lubricant and Transmission Fluid.

    You did not put the torque specs on th oil plug?

    • @OutdoorsEngineer
      @OutdoorsEngineer  Před rokem

      What do you mean? Did you want me to tell you what the torque specs are? Or are you worried I didn't use a torque wrench on the drain plug?

      @@OutdoorsEngineer idk but i know now the specs.

    Never understood why people winterized their motorcycle??? But again I live in Iraq so what do I know.

    • @OutdoorsEngineer
      @OutdoorsEngineer  Před 2 lety

      Do you get snow in Iraq? We have four solid months of snow so the bikes get to hibernate for that time. I ended up not changing the oil this fall as I didn't put much mileage on the bike this summer.
