Sarah sang this Soul Medley along with I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston in her This 15 Me World Tour (2018). She showcased her Black American Soul inspired singing in this production. She was able to bring the sexiness of the "Blues" and the rawness of "Soul" as she showed some influences from Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Christina Aguilera, and Beyonce in this performance. @@agcaoili1879 It is blues music that is why it's hard to sing. Jazz, which is a more complex genre and the genre Sarah is formally trained at, originated from Blues. These are all Black american music. Only Sarah, KZ, Bituin, Jaya and Radha can really sing blues in the PH mainstream industry.

@@AceGrante I honestly love it too, especially when I first heard it. Her voice was tired and hoarse in that version but I thought that version had the most soul, rawness and power. Her vocals in that version sounded like the roundness of her black american soul vocals in 2012-2013 when she sang Greatest Love Of All/Emotions and Expressions era. However, this version that I posted is a cleaner and a more polished one. Most vocal coaches in youtube do not really get what "Soul singing" is, and if we recommend the vegas version, they would just say that her voice had a lot of tension and they would just be very technical about it. In terms of technicalities, this one is better. But in terms of Soul and power, the vegas version is better for me. I appreciate both but apparently, many vocal coaches on youtube are just focused on techniques alone and are not open to other genres and the concept of style.
@@AceGrante In what part did she use scatting tho? I did not hear any scatting. I heard a bit of improvisations tho although I'm not sure if it would pass as scatting. She did a lot of scatting in other songs but not on this medley. 🙂
Filipino listeners on recent passed decades were conditioned and boxed to the idea that singing in full chest voice is the only way of singing and this has become the blueprint of newly budding singers since then on. But SG has deviated from the typical mold of Filipino artist or shall I say a belter. Since she's the SUPERSTAR of this generation, she paved the way now introducing to public the expensive music, vocals and sounds as she never sounded Brgy fiesta levels. Nowaday that expressive singing and unique airy sound is has started to dominate the industry, SARAH as she's a vocal chameleon with multiple vocal colours, has easily adapted to this. And now, SG still is relevant and reinvented her music & sound. Vocals now has become 💥💥💥 and match to none indeed.

So I did this thing where I asked my bf to listen to few Filipino singers and made him choose his favorite. And when i say listen, I mean listen.. he's not watching who the singer is because i want him to focus on the voice. My bf is black, a danfer and a DJ specializing in funk, rnb and soul. No he is not a singer but all his life, he is surrounded with music. This man is a walking dictionary of songs, not just mainstream but underground as well. With the abundance of singers in the Philippines and most of them are vocal genius, I'm curious to know who's artist he would choose just by their voices. I made him listen to few others and his reaction's pretty mediocre. When he listened to Sarah he was like, "now that's a voice!" "She's black no?" (I didn't tell him he's only listening to filipino singers) when I told him no, he was shocked. He also said, " see the thing is there's emotions when she sings unlike the other ones." He also does not know who Sarah is.

Radha has a very similar style to Sarah's. Check her out too 🙂 They have the same soul accent and pharyngeal belting that Black american soul singers do. They also use Jazz/Blues scales in improvising.

I don't feel like she is struggling to hit high notes here or in any other recent performances she had, just saying to those who believe that Sarah is having a hard time hitting high notes. She maybe hitting it not the way your idol does but that does'nt mean she is struggling to hit high notes.
She used Soul singing techniques and style. Many typical Filipino listeners might not get it, but that's the way Soul should be sung. 🙂

Most people just stick to that effortless hitting notes ng singers pero di yata nila ma acknowledge yung fact na iba iba naman klase ng artist. On Sarah’s case, she is just natural performer and actor that separates her from the other artist esp belters. Her gifts merge everytime she sings. I saw her raw footages ng rehearsals nya. Kaya nya kantain mga high note song kahit nakatayo lang so effortlessly.
