After 3 to 4 months of playing Nerts (2 to 4 evenings each week) with my wife and daughter, I finally achieved a win! I was losing by huge point margins (including scores in the negative), more often than not one step too slow, and struggling just to pick up a card cleanly in all the rush. So last evening, I realized that I may not be focusing my eyes enough on the cards to precisely coordinate my eye hand coordination to pick each card up cleanly and more quickly. What I needed to do was to apply the same thing that tennis players do when taught to be very LASER LASER FOCUSED in watching the tennis ball through the entire racket swing. In the game of football, receivers are taught to look the ball into their hands eyes and avoid diverting their eyes away from the ball in anticipation of where to run after catching the ball. And it worked like magic, calling Nerts in 6 of the last 8 rounds to pull off my first ever win!
For sure, I didn't even mention the dexterity needed to click the card and place it on the correct pile quickly. This becomes even more difficult if you are playing with any lag whatsoever. Congratulations on your win!!!
Three things I've learned my first month of Nerts: 1. clear your nertz card at all cost. if you are not great at multi-tasking. just focus on seeing an opportunity to clear the top nertz pile card. I'll be back next month with tip #2. Thank you for your tips, Doctor Jefe.
For sure! I would add that you can focus on any of the card piles that only have 1 card in them. Clearing a pile means you can place the top card from the Nertz pile there.
