  • It will be sad to see them go. Various clips put together of Northern Rails Class 323 electric's at Guide Bridge (Ashton) on the Glossop & Hadfield Line and Heaton Chapel (Stockport) on the West Coast Main Line in January 2015.

    If anyone misses these trains then feel free to come to Birmingham, they are used on the Cross-City line and you'll see one at every city station every 10-15 mins or so ;D

    Shame the Woodhead route closed. The 323s would have been perfect across to Penistone if the line had been reelectrified at 25kv. A missed opportunity.

      @@traincrazy163 More likely 331s if the Woodhead line was reopened.
      In the Guide Bridge shots the catenary masts are still the original 1950s former DC system.

    The West Midlands ones shall be joining Northern to replace the 319s. So the classic motor sound shall live on!

    They seem really quick to get going. The hissing sound when they set off reminds me of the old T68 metro link trams, was there any commonality in components between the 2?

      we are now in 2018 and that's it no more class 323s on the northern services and they are going to be replace by the new electric trains from December this year

    The Northern 323s will be all gone by 2020, replaced by 319s then new stock 331s.

      That plan was scrapped, instead Northern are getting the West Midlands ones to replace the 319s
