My dad was passed out on the couch. I decided to take his car for a joy ride. Picked up a few friends some alcohol a little green and wouldn't you know it this song came on as we were toking and drinking. All those friends have passed on. Thanks for the memories both to Allman Brothers and my friends ❤
The Allman Brothers Band must hold the record for having the most legendary guitarists under its belt: Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Warren Hayes, and Derek Trucks.
Possibly one of the absolute best guitar jams you will ever witness. Two of the most underrated pickers of all time. Effortless the magic they perform.
i totally agree, they are ALL BAD ASS to the bone, hell back in the day, what 45-50 yrs back. they were da shit. I've heard some stories, about the 'youngin' coming up. and how they'lld send him to Dickey at all to show 'em long before, to teach 'em a few licks....how do you get that sound. they told 'em no boy you , you're doing it wrong. put lighter strings on that boy. come away w/ that sound. to hear them in 21st century, whatta rare gem. sure enuff them youngins got schooled by the masters themselves. i woulda loved to see them.
2017 marks the tragic end of the Allman Brothers one of the greatest bands of all time. The recordings are forever timeless. The Allman Brothers are one of the perfect examples of American Exceptionalism in the music business. God Bless America, God Bless Our Troops, and God Bless the Allman Brothers Band.
Takes me back to January, 1976. 18 years old, Riding in a lime-green Pinto, listening to Eat A Peach, with a 17-year old, long-haired boy beside me. Going to Carolina cause he's not old enough to get married in Georgia
I'm so glad that I've seen them over 30 times & with every guitar player except for Duane.Wish I would of seen him.Love them all.God Bless the Allman Brothers
Reminds me listening to Eat a Peach as a 19 year old Citadel cadet driving my 240z around Charleston South Carolina with my girl in 1973. Boy those were the days my friend. I wish I knew then how good I had it. But still rocking to the Allman Br. retired back in Carolina.
Southern Rocks early statesmen. No one else sounds like the Allman Bros. or ever will. Thanks for the music and memories. Back in the day of "Album Rock" we'd put an album on and just let it go.
my husband used to sing me this in 1985. this yr we got married. He passed away in 2010 but this song always brings him right back here.. to the river...playing his guitar..
I attended my cousin's daughter's wedding not very long ago. I didn't really know the 25ish bride and groom and many other people there. To my astonishment, I heard the familiar notes to the opening of "Blue Sky" as the bride walked down the aisle.
The recording executives didn't want Warren in the ABB because they felt he was too good. Dickey said it was a package deal, or the ABB wouldn't reunite back in '89
😔Thank you, Dickey, for all you have added to my life and for accompanying me through some of the most difficult. You will never be forgotten and your music will live forever. Go be with your brothers….Rest in Peace.
Dickie Betts is the master of the freaking major scale.. how he can stay on the major scale, and run through riffs without it sounding "scaley" blows my mind.. just an incredible musician who has mastered his trade.
If you listen to his solo record ,"Let's All get together " you will hear many things .I always think of Betts ,as using the Diminished scale to get blue notes. In "Memory of Elizabeth Reed" he makes great use of the diminished . It is amazing how he makes the diminished fit so well in the context of major harmony .
Peter Dunbar non musicians will say it's nothing more than feeling and soul, but we musicians know better. He's actually mixing up the major scale with the mixolydian and also throwing in some jazzy little chromatic passing tones here and there. all very tasteful. superb guitar player.
RIP Duane, Berry, Butch and Gregg. This song, to me, with the twin guitars, represents the best of what the Allman Brothers brought to rock in the early 70s. Rock on, Dickie!
Tom Dillon Yes...you're 100% spot on! I 💜 the Allman Brother's. It's truly saddening that Duane, Berry, Gregg, and Butch are no longer with us. All gone way too soon. Rest in Eternal Peace. Gone, but never forgotten...their music will live on forever.
Groundpoundet I'm with you on that Gregg Allman the greatest R&B singer to ever grace any music genre Dickey Betts and Duane Allman two of the top 5 greatest guitarists ever
dickey says "turn your love my way" and begins the solos, at which point i just drop, give up, surrender to the beauty of the song and enjoy. that's what music is all about.
I dont care how many times I watch this, it never fails to put a lump in my throat and my eyes well up .. just love it so much its incredible what those guys could do. I am in awe each and everytime I watch it.
Jonathan Vanwilderingburglet That's true, but the other dude doesn't get nearly enough credit. The guy doing the slidey jam thing, whose name I can't be bothered to look up. He kicks some ass too.
I am a huge fan of music. I listen to classical, reggae, some country, Mexican, old school rock, Christian. Out of all the songs, albums I’ve collected over the years, this is my favorite song, and this is my favorite version. I love the jam. Thank you so much Mr Betts for creating it. Your legacy will long live on. RIP
+Frank Steen Ha, pretty much. It took me years to get this one in the pocket, and even now, I can't play it with anywhere near as much natural awesomeness as Duane and Dickey.
There is nothing in the world to me like a great guitar band! Warren Haynes was a brilliant addition to the Allman Brothers and played tremendously and Dickey Betts in this particular performance was just on fire!
Hello all, I remember seeing the brothers at orange county fair grounds in Middletown NY back in 1988 or 89 it was a fantastic show, of course but when they started to play blue sky the clouds opened up and it started to pour... That rain just made everything even better!! What an amazing time!!! I've been fortunate enough to see the brothers multiple times at the beacon theater also!! Never ever a let down just pure magic each and every time!!!
Saw him I believe in 97 and 98, don't think Haynes was on the tour tours tho. Think one was trucks and there was another filler. Jimmy herring is also great.
@@SupernovaA-dj8dh yes he was saw them that year with Pearson at a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre in the woods between Salem and Portland,Oregon. It was a beautiful night!
True story. Saw the Allman Bros once in Macon. Georgia. 2nd row center. End of concert, bent over to get my coat, Dickie's bandana landed in my seat. Person behind me got it.

Rest in peace Dickie. Thank you for all you and your brothers have done. Your music will live on forever. 😢 God bless you.
This is God's favorite song.
End of the era when the Brothers were one of the best on the planet.Aand this is one of their best often overlooked numbers.
These old songs are incredible…and performed without auto tune. Epic guitar solos. No way out is also mind blowing.
The Allman Brothers Band must hold the record for having the most legendary guitarists under its belt: Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Warren Hayes, and Derek Trucks.
I concur!!,!,
The yardbirds had 3 pretty good ones roll thru.
and Honorable mention to a short lived member: Jack Pearson!!!
Frijolero18 I’m not sure about trucks or hayes especially when you compare them to the likes of Winter, Beck, Vaughn or even Clapton.

There are a few things in this world that sound as beautiful as the sound of the slide guitar in the hands of a master
Betts should be studied by young musicians.
Duane isn’t here.
Sorry. I see Warren now.

Farwell Mr Betts. And thanks for all those albums and songs. They will go on forever. In the year 2164
Dickie's solo let the chills flow through me. Love when that happens.
Dickie "feels" the fretboard. Half the time he doesnt bother to look at the fretboard. Great
muscle memory. He fucking rocks
RIP to the amazing Dickey Betts!
Warren Haynes' slide solo sends me shivers, Fantastic feel.
My dad and I go see Govt Mule Everytime they come in our area..
Dude's voice and playing are amazing! Super good cat too
It's amazing that slide didn't melt, had that thing burning red HOT

This is the greatest song of all time. It lifts my spirit.
These are true musicians. No fancy costumes, flashy show, just good music and talent.
G Hall right on. Music from the soul. so righteous.
Didn't need dancers and pyrotechnics.
exactly!!!! talent, and an instrument, no need for the rest of the nonsense we get with posers these days.

Warren was such a breath of fresh air when he joined.
The Allmans might have not reformed had it not been for Warren
What a monster slide player he is, along with everything else, his intonation with the slide is pitch perfect.
Robert Whitcomb Two totally different sounds. Denise

Amazing. Dickey (with zero hesitation) follows up Warren's mind-blowing slide solo with am even more ferocious solo of his own. What a beast.
Thought it was Duane, scary...
Right? Lots of Duane in that solo. Explains why Gregg seems to be loving it
Its un fuckin believable

Dickie Betts is the master of the freaking major scale.. how he can stay on the major scale, and run through riffs without it sounding "scaley" blows my mind.. just an incredible musician who has mastered his trade.

He mixes major and minor amazingly well, but his preference for major creates such a great and unique vibe.
