  • Martin & the ‪@aussierockhounds‬ crew uncover some of the best Rose Quartz crystals ever found in the deep Australian outback!
    Fighting the 45C/113F heat of the outback, we cross some of the longest rivers in the Western Australian landscape, and drive excavators out to the middle of nowhere. Get a sneak peek at what Aussie camp life is all about when you’re 500km from any kind of civilization with no phone signal and throw in some bush surgery just for the fun of it.
    While this is the first of the episodes for this channel, it won't be the last! We'll continue to go on the hunt for some of Australia's rarest gemstones like Mookaite, Orbiculite, and Dragon Stone to name a few, so stay tuned.

    I remember as a kid I’d get dragged along by my rock hounding grandfather all over the state collecting semi precious gemstones in his old 1972 Holden HQ ute, which was brand new back then & his pride & joy.
    He used to drive trains (steam locos in his early days but later the diesel replacements).
    So I remember him taking me to a railway siding out of Muchea somewhere collecting “apricot quartz”.
    I think he said it was “Chert”.
    It had been carted there by the railways and dumped as railway ballast in the siding.
    He recognised the apricot quartz as being suited to polishing in his rock tumbler, hence why we went there to collect the best part of a Ute load.
    I had the impression the apricot quartz was carted there by rail from a quarry somewhere out Yinnitharra way.
    This video brought back some nice memories of childhood days with a grandfather long since gone now, so thanks heaps for your efforts. 👍👍👍🇦🇺

      It's great to hear it brought back good memories with your grandfather Ian.
      Every time I travel to these old leases I’m constantly reminded of my grandparents and travelling with my old man as a kid.
      These memories are the things to cherish most. Pictures are good, but when a memory is triggered due to a name of place or even smell, these are the real treasures.
      I’ve heard of a few sidings with some nice-looking quartz over the years, I’ll have to keep this one in mind.

    Love the aerials, they really do show the vastness and the colour of the outback. Australian rose quartz, any idea on the age of these quartz you uncovered?

    • @aussierockhounds
      @aussierockhounds  Před 6 měsíci +3

      How good is seeing the landscape from that angle!! The age of the Rose Quartz is still unclear but we believe it ranges between 3.8 - 4 billion years old, making part of some of the youngest igneous rocks around that area!

    Love the video ! Question for you… how is rose quartz formed ? Thanks !

    • @aussierockhounds
      @aussierockhounds  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Great question! I could go on all day, but in essence Rose quartz is formed when silicon dioxide combines with trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese during the cooling process of magma. Glad you loved our episode!
