    These are not that hard to work on they look like they are but replacing the parts etc and have patience you can literally fix anything on this car. I own a 2008 CTS and work on it all on my own. 3.6 engine is real strong and reliable obviously if maintenance is kept up. I've seen these up in 200k miles still running strong mine currently at 150k.

    Nice CTS. Take a look with the engine running to see if there's an oil leak underneath. A dry dipstick is a bit of a concern. It's handy you have a relative that can do bodywork, because that rear quarter damage is probably why it was totalled out. Interior is in nice shape.

    The pre-2012 3.6's are notorious for timing chain failure at or near 100k miles. If you plan on re-selling this, I'd just go ahead and assume that the chains need to be replaced and do them. Additionally, look for things like wheel bearings (speed sensor ring failure SUPER common) and driveshaft carrier bearing.

    • @Vic9mm
      @Vic9mm Před 4 měsíci

      yes sir...but its the 3.6 in general no matter the year my 2016 CTS with the updated 3.6 (LGX) timing chains only lasted 65,000 miles. Bought it at 55,000 miles thankfully it was covered under CPO warranty.

    I have a 2019 xts and also a 2009 cts rwd and the big 2 problems with this car is #1 the pcv system is faulty . only on one side with a big opening and this makes the car burn a lot of oil esp as it gets older that's why the oil is black. and # 2 the timing chains and tensioners wear out quickly. I got lucky I changed the oil a lot but mine went at 146k had the timing job done, then 5k miles later guy had to redo the job due to faulty parts. now have 20k on new chains car runs great. my biggest advice is esp over 120k is to check the oil every 1000 miles and add as needed otherwise you will run low and oil will get black. if you do 5000 miles it will burn at least 2 quarts or more. then it can throw false timing codes if oil is to low such as p0008 p0018 ect. good luck on the car.

    • @digitalversatilediscjockey3465
      @digitalversatilediscjockey3465 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Pcv issue can be fixed with a newly designed valve cover gasket which can be ordered for $70. The difference will be astounding it will not burn oil anymore. It's like instead of a huge opening, completely covered w rubber except for three little pinhole perforation

    I think Cadillacs, Mercedes, BMW, all meant to be leased for 3 years and then sold . I feel like if any of those cars have over 60k miles on them, its a no go. Usually the leases or warranty are up right at the same time its ready for all the big money maintenance thats recommended. Thats why we see alot of these newer cars for sale with 30-40k miles on them.Most people dont wanna pay for all that maintenance. I admire your courage Sir.

    WHY NO DEALER WILL TOUCH IT. I currently own a 2010 C T S 4, LUXURY EDITION. I just spent 2600 on a timing chain at 125000 miles.
