  • SD Cards are a popular form of saving data in today's portable devices. Although two cards can physically look the same, there can be some major differences between them in speed, performance and price. This video attempts to examine and explain these differences in a simple way.
An SD card contains Nonvolatile memory used to store information in lots of electronic products such as mobile phones, digital cameras, tablets, video camera and GPS devices.
SD - is a acronym for “Secure Digital”
the SD term is a product standard that was developed by the SD Association 1999-2000.
A SD card contains nonvolatile memory that is a technology tot can store and recall information from the device even when not powered on.
Four card families are currently available:
    Original Standard-Capacity (SDSC) - Up to 2GB
    High-Capacity (SDHC) **** - over 2GB-32GB
    Extended-Capacity (SDXC) **** - over 32GB-2TB
Extended-Capacity with input/output (SDIO), which combines input/output functions and data storage. (these are only fully functional in host devices designed to support their input-output functions)
Three form factors sizes are currently available:
    original size ****
    mini size
    micro size ****
**** As of this video the most popular formats are full and micro-size SDHC and SDXC formats.
    Compatibility:
Host devices that comply with newer versions of the specification provide backward compatibility and accept older SD cards.
    Speed class rating:
The SD Association defines standard speed classes indicating minimum performance to record video. Both read and write speeds must exceed the specified value.
This video will help to find the Right SD Memory Card.

    Hi Man.
That was a good clear video so thanks for the info.
How about doing one about matching the right cards to the right devices ?
There is no point in overkill, and the money you save where NOT needed can be put to use where it IS !
    Regards.

Still smaller!? My micro sd card has just pinged out of it's slot and I'm convinced it's gone into another dimension, just cannot find it. And aren't the stated speeds on the cards in Megabytes, not Megabits..just checking?

SD's and SDMicro's are amazing! I remember my first IBM PC with a 10MB Hard Disk!!! Huge and my neighbor bought a 20MB Amazing! What could he possibly need to do with this space! Now 64GB on a micro is cheap. Thanks for the help understanding the 2,4,10....

Thanks, I tend to stick with brand names like Sandisk, Lexar and Samsung because some of the overseas knockoffs may not be the speeds and capacity as claimed on the package.. Steve

I know your video is old but I'll try. Do you have any knowledge of why when I use my class 10 64 gig SanDisk card in my Moto x pure , game's load slowly and speed is less responsesive in play? Simple games like words, or word streak. Not high end video games. But when I place them into internal storage they work fine.
I did format for internal storage,, so that's not it. I am truly disappointed with SD cards saying they will work just like internal storage. Was running marshmellow,,now have nougat,, haven't tried that yet am so untrusting of going to the trouble. If anyone has an answer I'd appreciate it.thanks.
