      +Ulrich Lehnhardt Considering there is no German speaking culture a stone's throw away from the U.S., it makes sense that they don;t speak German. They do speak Spanish pretty well in the south though, I think it's required in their schools down there.

      CORRECTS YOU
      why do Americans take everything as critizism? I was just describing a difference and I was not judging or asking for explanations. If you would like to know why this difference exist, you would have to dig deeper into history. It is not a question of a culture which is a stone throw away.

    • @CorrectsYou
      @CorrectsYou Před 8 lety +13

      Ulrich Lehnhardt You also didn't ask people not to explain. I was just stating a fact in a neutral tone, you're the one who read it as defensive. I'm Irish by the way.
      Also, EVERYTHING has a deeper explanation, it's just simpler and more to the point to state the main reason. Canadians learn french because they have a large population of french speakers nearby, Southerners learn Spanish for the same reason, as with Europeans, who are a quilt of tightly packed various cultures within walking distance of one another. You don't need to lay out a textbook to explain it.

      U.S. citizens are no different than anyone else. We love our consistency (that we culturally understand) that allows us to function with a small amount of productive stability. Not an ideal, but certainly beneficial for our native born citizens. Maybe that's why a lot of other immigrants want to come here. It's certainly not Utopia, but there is still promise if our citizenry pulls together for a common purpose, excepting war support by outlaws that support both sides and always claim victory.

      "We all know where America is so why don't Americans know where every other country in the world is?!" is one of the more annoying stereotypes because they don't see it that way. Also, the US is a very diverse country compared to Germany. Germany has a very high percentage white population so their IQ's/education/intelligence would be higher on average but matching the white populations together the US and Germany are very similar in those regards. Different regions have drastically different people where Germany is very uniform in comparison.

      Our brain uses stereotypes to categorize people, based on own experiences and things we got told.
      Basically this is a good thing, because it makes things easier for you. There is only a problem if you can't make a difference between those predjudices and the reality anymore. You can't compare it to the third Reich. I am pretty sure most of us would have been Nazis at that time and under those circumstances. If you are brainwashed you don't know you are, right?!
      Furthermore most of the people didn't know about the jews getting killed.
      My grandfather was member of the SS and didn't know because only very high ranked members knew about it...

    The truth can be "hurtful" sometimes but it still way far better than being "nice" under the pretense and fakeness.

      Nobel Prizes by Country 2023
      First issued in 1901, the Nobel Prize is one of the highest honors a person can receive in their lifetime. The Nobel Prize was founded by Swedish engineer, inventor, and chemist Alfred Nobel, whose will established the Nobel Foundation and directed that the prizes be awarded annually "to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind." Nobel further instructed that "no consideration be given to nationality, but that the prize be awarded to the worthiest person, whether or not they are Scandinavian."
      Nobel Prizes are awarded in five areas: peace, literature, physics, chemistry, and physiology or medicine. In 1969, an additional prize, titled the "Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel" (SRPESMAN), was established by Sweden's central bank and has been incorporated into the Nobels as well.
      Here are the 10 countries with the most Nobel Prize winners:

    Why do so many americans watch this video when it is clear from the start that the people in the video do not report from experience, but only describe stereotypes? Did u want to hear compliments? I bet if the majority had been enthusiastic about the Americans, the fact that THAT only describes a stereotype too wouldn't have mattered anymore.
    Why so pissed off? It's hilarious xD

    I think an issue, among several, facing Americans is that we don't emphasize speaking foreign language nearly as much as other nations. I always felt it was wise, polite, and efficient to speak the language of not just our neighbors, (Spanish, Portuguese and French) but also the language of our economic partners. Asking everyone else to adapt to us, only limits us. A great example is Germany. They all seem to speak English very well, and I'm sure they all speak some basic French, Dutch and other regional languages as well. I wish we would, and I'm strongly pushing my children to speak more than one language as an emphasis in their education.

      That's interesting. I have found the U.S. public educational system to be very objective and does very little to support stereotypes, I suppose there were instances of bias influence, or covert stereotyping, but as a whole, very little... but, again, my micro experience might have been the exception to the rule.
      Frankly, I found the whole drug education thing to be a complete failure though. Not sure how it is around the country or in other coutries, but in my state, there is a 2 or 3 week drug education "thing" that they did when I was in 8th grade and then they did it when my oldest son was in 8th grade. Several of my friends found it inspiring and wanted to go out and try all the drugs they taught us about. I remember thinking back then, what a joke it was... this was around 1984, I believe. I really did not feel more compelled to do drugs myself, but I was a nerd and wanted to be liked, so I dabbled in drugs with the one's who seemed so inspired to do drugs, thanks to our educational system and pretended like I thought it was cool too.... so fast forward to around 2006 and my 8th grader comes home and announces to me that "they make it sound like drugs are fun". It just makes me wonder how many children in my state have felt this way over the decades of this "educational" effort.
      Frankly, I think there is more of a conspiracy to encourage drug use through suggestion. And the use of suggestion has been used for evil since time immemorial, it is not some new thing that people don't know about. It's something I've always wanted to do something about, but never have, beyond sharing my experience. After having learned more about the human psyche... AND the complete failure of everything they've tried to do regarding drug use, I am convinced that this drug education practice has got to end.

    • @theclanplus1
      @theclanplus1 Před 7 lety

      Haha! Well thank you for your honesty Shcii! My first thought of this whole thing was.. "Americans?" Why.. there's north, central, and south "America". I know they're generalizing it to the U.S.A. which I'm from.. but then the first stereotype was that we don't think of anything outside our own country, just right after I was wondering which part of "America" they would speak about! My word! If you come to the U.S. there are different cultures everywhere and at least I'm fully aware different Americas. There's 3 German restaurants in my town, countless different Asian type restaurants, and even an Ethiopian one an hour away! Then to stereotype U.S. is nearly impossible as well. I'm "Native American" as they call it.. of the eastern Cherokee band mixed with a little Scottish. Then you have all these other cultural mixes. I eat one small meal a day, a home cooked if I can afford it. And as far as Germany is concerned the only stereotype I've heard is they have stricter laws and are generally more blunt than the U.S. general population. But then, many years ago when I went to high school I had a German exchange student friend who was very kind and open! She loved to laugh! So I hold no true bias. We're all different! I mean, I don't even fall into the category of "only friendly on the outside". When someone asks me how I'm doing, I tell the truth. And I only invite people over if I intend to let them in my home! Coming from the southeast also changes things, as we tend to be more genuine. None of that fake stuff! I hate fake kindness myself!!

    Crazy how it's *all* negative. Even when talking about Americans' openness, it's only under the pretense of it being superficial or fake.

      That's what it seems like. Because our culture is very different. When all people are behaving cheerful and friendly it's suspicious when you're not used to it.

      I think all stereotypes of countries, not just america, are a bit negative and not always true. Personally, I’ve never met an american person, so I can‘t tell what is right or wrong of it.

    Is it really true that americans are so friendly, polite and easy to approach? I've never been to the US, but heard that a lot, but the americans I've met were not always like that. They were more or less withdrawn and didn't really like to get in contact, some of them were also kind of aggressive. But I've only met a few americans who traveled through different countries, so I'd like to know if that stereotype is really true...? :)
