How to Polish Black Trim: Ford Edge
Vložit
- čas přidán 29. 08. 2024
- Most modern cars today have black trim that can be polished. This example is a Ford Edge. Unfortunately, this area is easily scratched due to its "softness", also making it a challenge to finish out or, in other words, look 100% flawless after the polishing step. The key to this project is to introduce less and less polish until you are using a pad with no products at all. This is the trick to restoring this type of SUPER ANNOYING and frustrating trim :) Hope this helps. -L

Larry you're a life saver. I watched this 2 days ago, and a new customer was looking to get this exact spot clean up today!
Awesome video as always. I bought a black car long before seeing your channel and I regret the purchase as keeping up with black paint is the bane of humanity when it is your daily driver for long commutes. Either way, after following your tips I've got mine looking better than the day I bought it from the dealership, aside from some lovebug etchings from it's early days....
Congrats on the new arrival Larry! Super excited for all your new content on the way. You are part of the reason to my success as a mobile detailer, thanks a lot buddy!
Congrats on the new addition to your family make sure you take time to enjoy him you can't get the time back
Hey Larry! A small tip that works for me when tinting is when i cut out the tint on the outside of the window, or cutting anything i use a brakeoffblade knife and holds it as far away from where the cutting is taking place and dragging. The cut i have found is getting more straight and nicer.
Greetings from sweden!
This is the kind of guy you want to work on your car. Very personable and knowledgeable.
Congrats on the baby and the new successful move. Thx for the video
Larry, Congratulations on your new home, garage, Drive+Protect and of course your SON!
Hope mom, baby and the whole family are doing well. Thanks again for everything!
Perfect video. The exact same spot on my wife's 2015 Edge constantly bothers me from all of the swirls. Your videos are always the best, Larry!
Great video.. I've always wanted to polish out my black trim, but never figured out the best way to do it. I guess I really need a 3" machine in my arsenal after all.
Congrats on your son! I hope your new projects take off well.
I need to do this to my F150s trim. No matter how careful you are they always manage to get swirled up. Luckily xpel makes a precut kit for those sections so hopefully my first pod install won’t be too difficult.
Congrats on the baby boy it's will change your life and bring you so much joy! Trust me!
I'm happy for you Larry, congrats on everything!
Phenomenal tutorial, I managed to eliminate about 99% of the scratches. I was, regrettably, left with deeper one that wouldn't come out, but I'm not going to risk the trim just for a few scratches. Thanks, Larry!
Congrats on the kid. Can't wait for more awesome tips and videos Larry. Thanks.
THANK YOU! I've tried so many different pad/polish/speed combinations and none of them got the panels as clear as your method!
Really nice looking garage! Excited to see all of the videos that will be coming out of it
Congratulations on your new born son Larry, and for your move and new direction. I'm sure Drive & Protect will be a huge success.
Thanks for another good video and lesson, and for the hours of detailing education you've provided. I've learned so much from just watching you.
Congratulations on the birth of your son! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! Best for health and happiness Larry! Very pleased to see your hard work paying off!
Thanks you for this Larry! I've got 2 Ford Fusions with the same setup which need to get polished before winter. This was right on time
Congrats on having a son man, that's awesome!
Seriously has such a natural talent in making videos, cannot get enough
You make it look so easy.. I wish I could do this for black trim panels likes yours on my 2016 Range Rover sport
Larry congrats on ammo jr.
Can't wait. The new shop looks nice (at least the corner that you let us see so far). I was wondering why the videos had slowed down and now I know. Congratulations on the baby. They can be a handful! Good luck.
My 2016 Explorer literally came from the factory scratched to hell like this! Really appreciate the video!
Congratulations on your family (little boy) and success. You are one excellent teacher. I've said it before and truly mean it. I also train my fellow coworkers in industrial environment. It's very hard to be a very good teacher. You've got it down to perfection. I always learn so much and look forward to detailing my new 2016 lexus is 300
I can donate my car for a future segment!
LOL yes, your car, and about 400 bucks!!!
doubt 400 would do it :D
😂
I also have a Ford Edge and the glossy black trim is super scratched up with swirl marks-just like in the video. Glad to know I can potentially fix it.
Thank you very much for a great video... My wife scratched her pillars on her 2018 Kia Stinger with a microfiber cloth.
This fixed it quickly, and with items I already had in the garage!
Larry's the only detail guy I listen to. And def the only one I watch do that magic. Yeah baby keep it up.
Congratulations on your new boy, Larry!
First episode! Still a classic, always keep tabs on these types of videos. Even if it’s 5years later
congrats on the family man! Best detailing show out there!
Congrats on the new garage. Awesome tutorial as usual.
SoCal your videos are pretty great as well!!! I’ve been off CZcams for a while till I got my membership back and didn’t have to watch a million ads lol so have you gave away your seiko yet!?!??
@@DWBJosh Thanks man and yes I already gave away the Seiko.
I've worked for Ford for the last 15+ years and here in the USA they've used those keyless entry pads since the 90's. The used to be physical buttons early on and over the last few years have switched to touch base, they used to come on their premium packaged models but they're starting to be pretty much standard equipment now. Looks like you have a 15'-17' Ford edge titanium or sport there.
All the best to you and your little guy Larry!
thank you for your hard work Larry! keep it up, i know we all enjoy your content and benefit greatly from it!
yes larry... looking forward to seeing the new garage
This is super exciting! Drive + Protect!!!! Look forward to it all!
Many many congratulations on the new family member as well!
Thanks for this, my wife's new Escape has the same thing and it's been driving me nuts.
Was it just me or did it sound like there was a lot of static/ or almost wind noise
Nope, not just you.
Ryan Bailey some static is there
yes static there
Yes, background / static noise.
you need new speakers Dan............the static is there.

Congrats to you and the wife on the new baby! Keep up the great work Larry.
thanks Larry, congrats on the baby!
For some reason i keep seeing your videos pop up and instantly you remind me of Linus Tech Tips.... I have no idea why. Anyway i've now subbed as i like keeping my car super clean and smelling nice. I've recently found using the little scent balls you pop in with your washing is amazing if you use them on your AirCon filter. Gives the whole car a fresh washing scent 24/7.
Nice videos.
Very nice I'm happy there is going to be more content. Your work on CZcams is always quality
Congrats on the new born!
Can you do a video on a good starter kit, I know you have told us many times the tools you used spread across a long list of videos but one video of what we need for basic car care!
Congrats on your baby boy Larry! Looking forward to the new format and shows.

Can't wait for more content Larry! Also excited to hear you and Matt from obsessed garage working together
Really excited for the future episodes! Awesome stuff, Larry! :D
Love u Larry

Hello, so me the best results I had on the black lacquered (piano trim on Ford Focus RS MK2) are with: Meguiar ultimate compound (meguiar's cut pad Burgundy), ultimate polish (meguiar's polishing pad yellow) and ultimate wax (meguiar's finishing pad black), and 24h after Ultimate fast finish (optional). With powerful lamp = no more micro-scratches or swirls! I tested m105 then m205, but swirls persisted !, perhaps too abrasive for the fragile "black piano trim!" but actually with meguiar's 3 Ultimate Steps the result is awesome, deep black, wet, shiny, without any swirls 😀
great job, love the new work area
Was wondering why you weren't uploading as much Larry! Congrats on becoming a father. Hope to see more videos soon.
Great video and great looking garage. Can't wait to see more. take care Larry.
Put a Gamma seal lid in that hole in the detailing Cart. Works great.
Congrats on the new born!!!
I'm pumped for the future of drive+protect keep it up Larry!
Could you do a similar video on how to remove stains from matte black trim. I havent really found a solution for removing grease stains from fingers etc from it. Congrats on the baby and greetings from Finland!
I'm excited for more episodes! Congrats on your child!
Congratulations from Sweden to your son! Hope it´s a healthy one.
Ten fingers ten toes as we use to say.
Great video and so excited for the future of the channel! Also crongrats on the baby!
Larry, have you considered redoing the lighting in there? It looks a little washed out. Great content as always! And congrats on the baby!
Awesome video Larry - I have a few questions though. How difficult is a "clear bra install" - I have been thinking about ordering a pre-cut 3M piece for the hood/bonnet of my car. But I am wondering if I can installit without screwing it up. What do I use as a slip solution, and I have seen some people using two things. Both slip solution, and "fix" solution. Lift a part, and spray the fix solution when you have placed it where you want it, and then it stays there. If so, what would one of those solutions contain? Thankful for any tips or tricks. From anyone who sees this. The shape of my hood/bonnet isnt very complicated. And I have zero stone chips so far, car is a few months old.
grats and I can't wait to see more content! All your videos are informational and helps me become a better weekend detailer!
