- In this video I show you how to paint door hinges. First, I removed the door hinges from my doors. Then, I sanded down the hinges so that the paint would stick. Then I painted the hinges with rust-oleum paint. Then I drilled holes into cardboard so that I could paint the screws black to match. Then I simply reinstalled the hinges and I am very happy with the end product!

Congratulations!! Good for you for someone so young. I bought my home a couple of years ago and just love it. Made the mistake of renting it for one year... long story short I'm now a diy'er. I'm redoing EVERYTHING... paint, floors, carpet, hardware, appliances, etc.
Thanks for the tip on placing screws in card board. I did replace all doorknobs because I wanted glass knobs..... good luck and have a wonderful day.
Literally wondered if I could do this. And you confirmed it. As for putting the screws in cardboard, that’s a car guy trick to detail bolt heads. Good job on that.
I was wondering if I could paint my door heinges so i watched this video. Painting the screw heads genius! Definitely going to try this out. Thanks
Thanks for watching and the comment too! Good luck painting your hinges and screws!
I did this for all my kitchen hardware, I used a clear seal and it’s been a year, pulls are perfect
After spray painting, I used the seal
Great presentation. Thanks. Love the idea of setting up screws for painting
Great ideas! Thank you so much!
GREAT IDEAS....THANK YOU...LOOKS BEAUTIFUL
THANK YOU SO MUCH DORIS

Awesome idea!
Great job
Thanks for the help
Tip...if you prime the hardware first with a good bonding primer before you paint the finish coat you'll have better lasting results.
That would probably help! This is holding up just fine right now
That technique with the screws definitely seems like the way to go! Gotta be careful not to fill the center too much of the screwdriver will cam out. Looks good!
that's a great point! The key is to keep coats light!
Thanks, I was looking for interior cupboard hinges in black 3" x 2.5" and there doesn't appear to be any, so I randomly searched for spraying hinges and got this. Perfect so now I can use a heat gun to remove the old white paint and rust-oleum spray paint using your method including the screws.
Great! If the surface is smooth, you might not even have to remove the old paint!
I am remodeling my kitchen next month, this was awesome! Can’t wait to paint my screws!
That's so exciting! I'm sure it'll turn out great!
Great information I want paint my hinges on the outside door so I hope I can take the door off by myself going give a try
Good luck! Doors can be very heavy, luckily mine are hollow. It might help if you can grab a friend, or you can see if you're able to do it yourself!
Thanks for the super helpful screw holder painting tip. Looking forward to seeing your completed condo. Happy Holidays!
Did you have to open and close the hinge before the paint dried?
Wouldn't the paint get damaged once it cured solid accross the whole surface of the hinge.
You have great taste and ideas. One question, do you recommend going for a pricey paint?
Thank you! In my experience, Rust-Oleum has worked really well. A couple months later, there is no chipping on the hinges. It's like $6 per can, which some people would consider pricey. As far as painting metal, it's my favorite I've used
@@Ettore what exact rustoleum did you use on this? matte/satin/flat?
3 year update? Any chips?
I’m painting my cabinets. Thinking about painting door handles too. How does it hold up?
I recently painted my cabinets too!
I bought new handles because they were cheap on Amazon and looked a lot better than what I had.
If you really like what you have, I'd totally recommend painting them. They should hold up well if you use high quality paint. Worst case scenario, you can buy new ones cheap online if you don't like them.
You might try Rustoleum Bonding Primer before spray painting the color. I'm going to try it on my kitchen cabinet hinges.
I've heard people complain about the paint sticking?
A year later have you had any issues with squeaks??
still going strong!
@@Ettore good to hear because I’m going to be doing this tomorrow haha
