New subscriber. Love the info. Short concise and easy to learn which is hard to find on here. I'm just starting to get into welding. THANK YOU!!

I seldom spend more than a day or two rubbing with any one Sandflex block, roughly the amount of time needed to remove any appreciable metal. I suppose if you mounted these blocks on some mechanized mover you could eventually remove enough metal to do anything more than shine the surface but short of that you aren't going to change the shape of anything.

Actually, I use the medium sandflex block with my fencing equipment in case it gets rusty or I just need to give it a little clean up. I highly recommend these, but I got mine double the price you suggested.

I'd be careful about cleaning up machine guideways with compliant abrasive pads; they could change their shape undesirably.
At work I use these "Gf-5 Precision-Ground Flatstones" which really do a great job at fixing nicks on flat surfaces. Though they don't make the surface look good, it retains its accuracy.
