  • Exciting mission for ESA in 2029!
    Hello Friends,
On October 19th, 2017 astronomers detected the first interstellar asteroid passing through the Solar System. It was Oumuamua. It had a brief encounter with the inner Solar System and then headed back out into outer space. When astronomers detected it, they aimed the telescopes from all over the world on the object, but it was too far away to reveal anything more than a faint dot. Until just recently, we’ve only been able to study objects in our own Solar System. We have no idea what the rest of the Milky Way is like. But we were too late to catch it, no spacecraft was ready to make a quick intercept.
Well, scientists aren’t doing that mistake again! That pass was a once in a lifetime moment. Or is it?
On September 23rd 2020, at 4 pm (GMT) Prof. Geraint Jones, the head of the Planetary Science Group of UCL's Mullard Space Science Laboratory, gave an online seminar on ESA's Comet Interceptor Mission named Comet Interceptor "An ESA Mission to an Ancient World".
The European Space Agency plans to launch a unique comet hunting mission in 2029. The mission, called "Comet Interceptor", was approved on June 8 at ESA's Science Committee meeting in Washington D.C.. It will be a collaboration between ESA and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The mission will consist of three spacecrafts. The main spacecraft (the mothership) and two smaller satellites that will launch to space. It will also take a exoplanet spacecraft with it named Ariel.
The cool thing about Comet Interceptor is that it won't know its target prior to launch. The spacecraft will travel to the (L2) Lagrange point , a gravitationally stable point just 1 million miles (1.5 million kilometers) from Earth in the direction away from the sun. Where the James Webb space telescope is stationed now. ESA expects the Comet Interceptor probe will not have to wait long for a target to show up, as new comets are discovered at least one per year according to NASA.
Once Comet Interceptor reaches its target, the three spacecraft will separate to document multiple angles to create a 3D profile for further study. Each of the probes will be equipped with different instrument to analyze the surface, shape and structure of the comet. UV detector, IR cameras etc.) as well as the dust and gases off its comets tail emanating from the surface.
What an exciting mission this will be if we have a visitor approaching from Interstellar space like Oumuamua while the probe is just floating there chilling, just to welcome it with open lenses! :)

Lol, Thank you for the comment Chris! Yeah comets are insane! I'm happy I told ya something you didn't know. Thats awesome! 💪

  • @cristinaromaguera3816

Wow! Never realized there were 2 different types of comets...and that's crazy how long it takes to get around 🤯. Awesome info and awesome video!

Fun Fact: All the planets in the solar system can fit in between the Earth and the Moon.

  • @winstonmontgomery8211

Whats up Guss....you be crazy bro 🤣 never change

  • @winstonmontgomery8211

Hey bro buddy have you ever heard about the theory that generation 3 stars can have stable super heavy elements? Where as our star is a generation 2 star. And that Alien space crafts are made of material from a Gen 3 star. So basically our only hope of getting material from a Gen 3 star is by a Rouge asteroid. So we as humans have got to make it a primary goal to capture Rouge asteroids in the off chance that they came from a Gen 3 star. All we would need is one asteroid from a Gen 3 star to give us the technology to travel through the universe and to create ships that are capable of manipulating gravity fields. YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE?

Oh man! My thoughts.. that's very interesting and I haven't heard that. But! Even more of a reason to follow or perhaps test a asteroid that passes through the Orrt cloud!
Perhaps the Gen 3 star asteroid will have the Kingon Crystal's we'll need. Haha 🖖
