It's not just that he's been playing in a '3rd line' checking role, it's the quality of players we have on our '3rd line' right now. With Stu and Norris out, and Pinto and Greig both playing in the top-6, there's no skill left outside the top-6.
Joseph is a great complimentary player, but he doesn't drive offense on his own. Give a him a quality, skilled center and Joseph will start to produce again
Joseph has really struggled since they traded Tarasenko. With Tarasenko and a healthy Norris the third line had a passable amount of skill. Without them it does not. Joseph is a good player, but he's a complementary piece. It's pretty clear that he can't drive the offence on his own. He needs a play-driver on his line to be effective (which is totally fine for a winger making under 3 million).

You are at least partially right as Tarasenko played well. However, Joseph was playing well with everyone he played with. Nothing against Parker Kelly but he ain't no magician.

A flaw of our rebuild is we don’t have a proper 3rd line when everyone is healthy. It a disaster when forwards are injured.
Joseph needs to be in top 6. Maybe we trade him for a better roster fit.
