Any injury to a dog's paw or nail can be very painful due to many nerve endings located there. What are your thoughts on Roscoe's visit to the vet?

I had a big drama queen when it came to nails. He was a rescue. I tried everything including a trainer. Ended up putting him half under to do his giant nails.
@@me-xx2gl same here, lovely boy but but of a coward at the vets, he was a great dane x mastiff with something else that was big so he was big and strong, normally a real sweetheart but hated the vets

TWSTF 8 not a shock collar lol, tracking collar. We have them for our hounds. And it’s a redbone coonhound.
Big baby, nothin'!!! I've ripped a nail badly and it HURTS!!! I can only imagine what that poor guy was going through. OUCH! That's one beautiful dog, btw.

My chihuahua hated getting his nails trimmed. He didn't even like his paws touched. If you tried to grab or touch his paw he would instantly pull it back. I tried to make a game out of it where I would put my hand over his paw then he would put his other paw on my hand and we would keep doing it like a game. I had to buy one of those gentle nail things that are kind of like a Dremel but more comfortable.

Our shepherd mix cracked one of his claws open right down to the quick, but all I was able to do was put some antiseptic on it. It's not bothering him anymore, at least.
Aww poor baby. He's definitely a bit dramatic though. My friend's dog snapped the end of his dew claw off, and it bled like the dickens, but he didn't complain at all, strangely enough. We had to follow the blood trail up the driveway to figure out which dog was hurt. That was a German Shepherd/spitz mix. (so. much. shedding.)

what did you do? my dog appears to maybe have torn it at the base
ended up having to take him to the vet. They ripped it clean off as it was torn badly at the base, then wrapped it. He has torn multiple nails since and usually just dont run him as hard. Always grows back. Wouldnt go back to the vet unless it was a significant tear. @@ababababeebababa

My hedgehog Mocha ripped off a nail and even though it was painful she let the vet do their thing during the pandemic. The only problem was giving the oral medicine for pain and prevent infection she didn't want to take it and I had to push the syringe in her mouth. She's fine now but the nail has never been the same after that.

Love this show! Can you guys post the clip of when Dr Pol found an abscess in the nasal passages of a palomino horse and drained it by actually drilling a hole in the skull of the horse? I always remember that being the single coolest procedure ever!

I have a tip when you get your dog if its a puppy play with his paws a lot then it will be easier to cut its nails, breeders should play with the pups paws as soon as they are born this will desensitize them and make clipping much easier. The hanging nail thing happened to my Rotty once before she passed away but the vet told me to buy some quick clot powder so I could do it myself if it ever happened again. Two nights ago, I was trimming my little dog's nails and I accidentally clipped too far blood was coming out pretty quickly shes small it wouldn't have taken too long for her to die no time for a vet but thanks to that vet 15 years ago I remembered that I had that quick clot powder, never had to use but always kept it on hand just in case, it stopped the bleeding instantly. I was amazed at how fast it worked its truly amazing stuff if you have a pet that has cuticles in the nail you should buy some of this powder.
I did the same thing with my dog touched his paws every day ....my dog still gets upset .. Some dogs are like that .Most of the time the owners are scared to do it themselves me I'm doing it myself... my dog even though he doesn't like it They feed off your energy so if you're nervous they get nervous.. I'm dealing with a cracked nail right now I'll probably trim it off and then do the same thing she did ..Unless it's too long I'll put some crazy glue it

Those nails are way too long. Nails can be ripped out or damaged regardless of length but injury is greatly reduced if nails are short. If they touch the ground when standing or if they click on a floor when they walk, they are too long! Dogs do have long quicks if the nails grow too long but it is not an excuse! Trim the nail to just before the quick and it will recede over a period of a few days to a week. Do small little trims every week, and in a couple months you'll have perfect nails! Keep up with them every couple of weeks and take long walks on asphalt and concrete when weather appropriate. If your dog loves to dig, let em! That helps too!
A sound idea, but this mutt is one of the ones that hates clippers near his paws and more assistance is required. It only took 2 people on this occasion for it but i can see why the owner isn't quite able to upkeep on it by himself.
Also doggy got dark nails, some are just too nervous to try their hand at trimming while blind to the quick location when they haven't been properly trained.
Oof, no wonder he tore it with nails that long.

my dog was like that with her nails until i got them done correctly by a professional i was not allowed in the room with her because she will think its going to happen to me to and boy was it quicker

If people dont walk There dogs,the nails Get to long.,ore they walke them to litle.
Soft grounds don't wear down nails as much, and softer ground is in abundance for the area they're in.
Also looks like a hunting hound mix, those types can outlast several people when it comes to exercise.

When you live in the countryside there isnt as much asphalt etc. Dogs nails dont wear down as fast on soft ground.
Taking them on walks doesn’t trim the nail down short enough lol they need to be trimmed regularly the dogs nails shouldn’t touch the ground
