Shridhar Chillal from Pune City, India had grown his nails for 52 years before finally getting them cut off and stored in the Ripley's Believe It Or Not! museums in New York City and Amsterdam.
At the time of measurement when his record was confirmed in 2014, Shridhar's nails measured: Little finger - 179.1cm, ring finger - 181.6cm, middle finger - 186.6cm, index finger - 164.5cm, thumb - 197.8cm.
We tell the story of Shridhar, from why he began to grow his nails to how living with them throughout his life has changed and what obstacles he has had to overcome.

No one told him to. His friends and family probably insisted on cutting nails much earlier, yet he remained assertive and kept on going for 66 years. Just out of pure spite.
I can’t even decide if I’m proud of this man’s achievement or totally mind blown.
Love him or hate him, he's now earned a place in history. He did things his way.
Yeah, I agree with you. But I am glad somebody did it lol. anyone who might be asking themselves "What happens if one lets their nails grow?" lol
I think it's the fear of losing the attention he was getting that made him keep it for that long.
Nobody cares
He is dumb and stubborn...who would be willingly be disabled for just a world record that no one will remember once they close this video lol .... They will probably never even remember his name
Don't worry. He was paid enough for that by his sponsors.
Childhood trauma can be so powerful. That one interaction and beating from his teacher, traumatized him so much, that it shaped his entire life.

I don't think when he started growing his nails he had the ambition to get his name in the books infact being an Indian myself I am pretty sure almost 50-60% of the people still don't know about the existence of record books like these. Someone must have suggested him to contact guniess book of records and see if he could get some money from there since he was having trouble financially. It pretty much started as an ego thing for him in the beginning I guess
Those people has nolife already .
He built a prison for himself out of nails. It’s heartbreaking and impressive at the same time.

I come back to this video every once in a while. I think it fascinates me because I’m watching something that makes me genuinely emotional, but what he’s done is completely unrelatable as a physical action. I will never know what it’s like to cut off 60+ years of nail growth, but I can also see how monumental it is. This man has led a fascinating life, even if I don’t know much about it beyond what was said in the video.
I feel like there’s more to the story when it comes to the beating that led to his decision, but I guess there’s always more to the story when you’re a human being. His nails are like the physical manifestation of “everyone you know is fighting their own battle.” Navigating life physically was challenging enough, but in order to keep these nails you’d have to be making the same decision every day-even subconsciously. The fact that he finally made the decision to cut them is just so compelling in that regard.
Great comment and insight. ❤
The fact that it takes your entire lifetime to beat this record is mind blowing because if he wants to grow again it won't reach that long as he used to.
I don't get why the person cutting didn't use water to smoothen the cutting process. It may even have hurt less that way.

@@djkleb7645 yep but he’s dumb
His nails will be there for next 1000 years or more maybe 3000 years 5000 years. as skeletons of people 5000 years earlier are preserved then why not his nails for next 5000 years uptill year 7022

The way he talked and the things he said, he seemed like an otherwise completely normal person. Seems like it was just a single simple obsession that he just didn't want to give up on.
It only took him 66 years to realize “ yeah maybe this wasn’t worth it “
it doesn’t seem like he regretted it
He ruined his life, handicapping himself from 14 till he’s in the grave. His hand is completely withered and nearly useless. Seems like his father should have stepped up when he was still a child and had him trim his nails. His quality of life would have been way better.

He liked them. It was a means of making money and he relished the attention.

Rapunzel but nails instead of hair. But truly an amazing dedication
I read about his feat in the Guinness Book during the 80s. Hats off to him for having maintained the nails for decades.
It was quite shocking for me to learn that he's an octogenarian now!!
I imagine people discovering this museum object burried somewhere after 100 years and thinking "humans were very weird in the 20th century"!
Nah, people will get even weirder
U have a point!
😀😀😀
You have a point but its 21st century lmaoo
@@sarge_snow8206 lol you're right but I thought that he has been growing his nails since last century. and his teacher in last century used to do it too.
Finally, he let go of his anger.... to become free.
You did very hardwork
When his nailed were finally cut, I felt a huge sense of relief FOR him. And his "freshly" cut nails look like a record themselves.
His nails will be there for next 1000 years or more maybe 3000 years 5000 years. as skeletons of people 5000 years earlier are preserved then why not his nails for next 5000 years uptill year 7022
@@starship3812 dude earth won't last so long with humanity at least. It'll be destroyed by climate at least a few dozens times in those thousands of years. 7025... How naive can you be. You think earth & civilization will be anywhere close? We've had internet not even for a century yet. In those 7000 years we'll long be able to create artificial limbs. Nails even easier.
@@VinnyUnion why you so bothered by a simple comment who cares its not even that deep weirdo 😂
@@GhostHaze559 if we're gonna talk about deep then your mum is the #1 candidate of topic. Or your name. Ghost + Weed? Woooow. Amazing. Does it mean to be high on haze and become a ghost, or is it bottomless and just clustered two edgy words together?
@@VinnyUnion you are the naive one. A few thousand years is pathetically little for something like a planet. What's a thousand years to a million? A million to a billion? Nothing humans will ever do could possibly even shorten the lifespan of earth, let alone destroy it. You could set off every single nuclear weapon at once, dump oil all over every ocean, hunt every animal down to extinction, yet life would still continue.
On the one hand, he finally got his nails cut. On the other hand, he didn't.
Ha
Hilarious
Yeah but like so late
Ngl I dont see the point after 66 yrs THEN only cutting them
Haha
I see what you did there 😉
The dedication, determination to keep his nails despite all the problems and rejection it caused him… was it worth it?
His Score Is ∞/100
Nailed It!
This man voluntarily made him handicapped and lived his whole life without arm. Not so smart.
well if its to get a Guinness world record i mean ill do that
@David Polanco On August 27, 1955, the first edition of “The Guinness Book of Records” is published in Great Britain. So may be he didn't start with the aim of a WR, but by the time he became an adult WR might have been a popular thing
@@epicismlol3785 and for a museum
What is his language?
@@thepublicrelative5043 lt is Marathi
An action that controlled his life for 60+ years based on trauma and the refusal to look at oneself and heal from it. This is what you don't do. Don't let things get this bad.
Yes
Relatable
Dear Mr. armchair psychologist, sure it might have started as a trauma thing but it certainly wasn't the trauma that kept him at it, and he seemed to be pretty content despite the difficulties he experienced as a result. I think it was eventually that he was more proud of how long he'd managed to grow them than anything.
He liked the celebrity status
Inspiring
Finally he can get that Dual Sense or Elite controller
wait, he has the record for World's Longest Nails, but since he waited 66 years, would that mean we would also hold the record for Longest Time With Uncut Nails
omg yeah
And also longest cutted nails
