Another nice little job John. I'm down to my last couple of Sandvik parting inserts so I thought I'd get ahead of the curve and order some. I used to order them off my Cromwell rep, before I retired, when he came in and although he got them for me at a good price, they still were not cheap. Looked on the Cromwell site and over £120 for 10, PLUS VAT!! Time for a new chinese tool and inserts I think.
I can agree about taps from Amazon. I got a pair (taper and plug) of 5x0.8mm tungsten steel taps for £6-99 delivered. I also got a pair (taper and plug) of 1/2" UNF taps for £11-49. Both sets from the same company, and excellent quality.
The trick with any tap, budget or expensive, is to stop using them when they start to go dull, they are so much easier to break when they no longer cut well. At least with budget offerings they are cheap enough that you don't mind getting rid of them. Though I use the shanks of good HSS taps for other things.
I get taps and dies from RDG Tools. Good prices and the quality is very good. They stock the unusual stuff I need like CEI too. Delivery is usually 2-3 days. No affiliation. Best wishes, Dean.
Very good. I have had good quality taps off Amazon too. And usually next day, which is amazing. I can buy one for £3.99 and it arrives the next day. Or I can use one of the other well known engineering merchants in the UK, pay ten times the amount, then double that again for delivery which takes a week! What am I going to do?!

Nice job John. That shopping list with the new lubricant brushes is getting longer! Have a good Easter:
