I really like Ding. I don't know him of course but he seems to be such a sweet soul.
Same here
Been a fan of him for a while. Insane talent and humility.
If it was Ian, he would have said ask me at a future time😂
It looks like he's a 100% transparent. Love it.
He is. I just wish there were more (are there at least some?) translated Chinese interviews from him on the internet...
Ding is amazing for being able to speak so calmly after losing a game in this way, in the previous match when Ian lost he refused to answer the questions.
Ding is still passed out mentally
Because nepo is typical chess jerk
Nepo is a prick. You make a mistake and he starts sipping water, smiling and making stupid faces like a child.
ian is very talkative when he wins for sure
@@vincentvangogh8092Ian has always been a bad loser unfortunately
I don't blame players for not wanting to talk after big losses, but Ding is incredibly selfless, no sign of any anger or disrespect - some players would lose the rag if you told them they made inaccurate moves
From a spectacular potential queen sacrifice in the previous game to playing the French in this game and equalising and getting somewhat better but then losing in time pressure , Ding seems to be going through all the emotions chess brings . 🙂
Poor sweet Ding. I'm rooting for you buddy!!

Ding is very nice, but Nepo is also a gentleman, very fair and an amazing player both to watch and in level. It's just a wonderful thing to have two contenders who actually want to play and want to win, and put up a real fight, not aim to go to blitz after a boring drawfest. Thank God Carlsen is gone
came into this wanting nepo to win but ding has won me over completely
I fall in the same category bro
I felt for Ding so badly watching the game, I was sad all day. The way he calmly answered questions just afterwards is possibly more impressive than all the thrilling play in this match.
Ding is getting so much better at speaking English
He's not getting better. If you pay attention, when he speaks chess moves he's always a lot faster than usual.
@@bobing1752 that is true but he has definitely gotten better at english. a couple years ago he was much less capable.
@@ilikefrogs4291 well maybe from a couple of years ago, idk. But from the beginning of the WCC I don't think so, and I think that's what the comment was suggesting.
@@bobing1752 I think they just meant in general
@@bobing1752 Non it wasn't, it was obvioulsy a general remark...
Rooting for the 3rd comeback. Come on Ding!
I think people have Ding all wrong. He's not the first Grandmaster to freeze in time trouble. Cough (Vishy), cough. Of course it's all so much easier when you're sitting at home with Stockfish.
Ding is doing much better than people expected! Both players are doing well.
Yes it really seems as number 2 and 3 in the world can actually play chess what a surprise
@@hisokabeatbox9053 shut up
Eh he clearly isnt playing at his true level, probably due to stress. No idea what you talking about
@@hisokabeatbox9053 Bro seriously, why the fuck are so many people acting as if Ding Liren is some random underdog out of nowhere, when he has CONSISTENTLY maintained a top rank in the world for many years? Like.. I appreciate the support and love they are giving him, but give the man some WELL DESERVED RESPECT as well...
@@hisokabeatbox9053 I'm talking about all teh Ding hate that's been everywhere, I saw many people saying Nepo was much better. No need to be so harsh
I never thought I would become a fan of Ding… it’s human tendency to accept people going through though times 😢
Only Grischuk can afford to squander all time with classical control and then finish the game perfectly in last 3 minutes of his clock.
I guess for Ding it's really tough to toggle from deep analyse to blitz mode. For Nepo it might be the other way around.
💯
That was nice of Nepo to agree with Ding that Ding’s way forward would have been very difficult if not impossible because of the blunder.
If I was Ding I would have frozen again at respond to that question.
Lmao
Dear Ding
I hope you enjoyed your day off.
Put this game behind you. You got this.
You are playing amazing and inspired chess. You can absolutely do this.
I feel this. Whenever I lose at anything mental, this is how I feel.
I love this guy...I really hope he wins
.let's go Ding
Ding is so creative. Awesome skills. I wish he could become WC!
Imagine being on the edge of victory in the skill you dedicated your life to just to freeze up like that. I hope he brings it back.
Poor Ding, I hope he recovers. But still think Ian will win WC regardless of this match
Regardless of this match how? Like, in the next cycle if not now?
In your dreams
#dingCollapse #dingChilling
you are confusing the terms "match" and "game" which makes your comment confusing
Yes, Ian will win. AS Kasparov wrote in his book "my great predecessors" Chess reflects geopolitical realities. We have Russia and China at the top of the world and the west too lazy, spoilt to react even though they are technically stronger (Carlsen). We have Russia bold and experienced, but rash -just like Nepo.... and China, so strong but timid and maybe too careful, but able to show moments of brilliance - like Ding, they need to be more assertive. Chess reflects the world.
Rooting for Ian, but Ding showed an incredible game that I felt like he deserved to win that one. Best of luck to both players in the next matches.
This is my favorite video ever!
Honestly Ding is a real one for showing up and talking about that game, anyone else would've just left the building and tried to sink into their bed.
Can't argue with that. Even someone as wildly popular as Nadal and Federer show their ugly side at the press conference after a loss. Ding is likely a pure Confucious disciple.
We will see what inside the soul of Ding if he can bounce back after this and even scrap out a draw. This sort of thing can be mentally rattling with what's at stake
I feel like the title of the video is very misleading. What I understand from the interview is that Ding did not freeze at all, he just couldn't find a non-losing line, and there was no point in playing a losing move anyway. Thinking more was he best option, even though it meant that he would have to rush later.
Agreed, I’m glad some people are saying this
Nepo💪💪💪
I’m rooting for Ding
Ding will prevail!
I think it is not fair to say that he "froze" just because Anish and others made the statement.
First question is that was there any realistic moves even to play?
My opinion is that he tried to find "not losing" move to the very end but like he said, he could not find it.
Totally agreed. The media and clickbait headlines just ran with the “froze” narrative, as if Ding isn’t a professional and doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing. Pretty disrespectful in my opinion
be5 is actually winning for black so there is a move that can be played. Granted its the only move thats winning. Check with stockfish if you dont believe me.
@@garethreynolds9061 Yes, but he needs 8 more after that, without any mistakes.
There is no point to play just one winning move or rush 9 moves just to get more time to realize that even 1 of those 9 moves is wrong and game over.
An there is this factor between the moves called Nepo, so I think he tried to calculate the whole sequence out.
Ding didn't lose because he suddenly froze. That was just how it ended. Real reason is his time management thruout the game in general: he was too slow.
And reason why I'm "salty" is not because he lost. Not my guy. I just hate how streamers and selebs can just throw arguments out there just to make drama, and drama sells.
@@FinCrow84 he maybe had only one winning move but actually he had plenty of moves which kept the balance. he had some options there to reach move 40 and then its a new game with a balanced position. i think he just misevaluated some positions as being worse than they were since he was down an exchange and it is rly hard to accurately evaluate the compensation. but its not like he had to play only moves for 8 straight moves. but then again way easier to say with an eval bar and actually knowing that you are not worse right now.
Ding is very sad as we can see his facial expressions.☹️
He is just unhappy.😢
Ding embodied his inner Windows 98 for the last game.
I hope Ding bounces back from that and shows us more of his brilliance.
chess is brutal after such long games you have to come out and face the media. It's scary
He sounds heartbroken in this interview😢

We will soon find out who is best.

Internet issue...that's why frozen
Imagine if he paused for 8 minutes before answering the question
So unfortunate 😢
He didn't freeze. He thought he made time control
Wow lan talks so much when he wins
This game brings hope in Ding's potential victory though, since he is the first in this match to defend well and even be dangerous with the black pieces :)
The first decisive result was Jan winning with black
@@rohan1864 that is not the point
@@eddyirategekanya336 the statement is false, that's my point. I also cheer for Ding and think he has good chances, psychologically as well, but the argument this person presented is still just false. so what's the point.
I feel like we all love Ding.
I feel sorry for Ding I feel like crying when describes how difficult it was for him to continue.
He didn’t “freeze” - he could’ve played some bad move if he wanted to. Then he’d be losing on the board as well as on the clock. There’s no point to that. It’s classical chess; if you “switch to blitz mode” you’ll get destroyed
Wrong, he had plenty of safe moves because his pieces were so good, e.g. King g7 ...just to make moves, conserve time. Nepo had nothing.
He decided to calculated attacking lines, miscalculated, and fucked up his time management in a better position.
@@bobbwc7011 infact Nepo had more. He had rook over a bishop. If Ding wasn't careful and didn't take advantage of his powerful bishop things could go downhill for black really quick. He was basically forced to look for an attack.
@@siddhantjhaveri Do I have to quote Kasparow or AlphaZero that material value is relative? Ding had the better position. He was clearly mismanaging his time and spent too much time on moves which as per the commentators were "obvious" at that GM level. Nobody knows what he calculated but it was his to lose in the end, and not Nepo's to win, and he lost it...
@@bobbwc7011 a better position only according to the engine. And that too only very slight advantage for black. That is not considered as winning even at the engine level. As for Ding over the board, he clearly thought he was worse and probably even losing.
@@siddhantjhaveri Ding was better. With black. He fucked up. End of story. So many moves to reach time control and keeping the advantage for converting it into a win...but Ding fucked up.
Ding is chilling
hes down a game hes not chilling. with 4-5 decisive games in a row it becomes less and less likely for the next to be decisive with every game that passes, especially for the back and forth nature to continue. he will either lose or draw the next game and then the pressure of being down in the match will crush him
@@joedorben3504 “if your first two children are boys, your third child is more likely to be a girl”
I'm here for the asmr
I think Anish said during the commentary that any player of this caliber would be able to assess this equal position easily, maybe it was fatigue and pressure
The simple answer is that Ding is not "of this caliber", his real strength is like 2730-2750, but he just hasnt played many high level tournaments over the past few years so his rating hasnt had the chance to drop to its real level.
@@joedorben3504 lol, Ding understands chess as good as Magnus Carlsen and Kramnik together.
@@joedorben3504 so do you mean that he wasn't not be able to assess that position as equal, because he is 2730-2750.
You are saying that his chess skill isn't good enough to assess that position.
Please look at what you are saying.
Ding is in the world chess championship match and Anish is not
@@jrcolonial98 oh well I guess his commentary is invalid then 🤷♂
Let the man speak for himself!!
I knew he knew what he was doing. Perhaps he wanted to forget time, and focus on his game. Don't fall in even to global pressure. But play the damn move even at the last minute.
❤
I feel like he has photographic memory when it comes to chess
He can remember the board at any fix move. Its amazing
#teamding
when its move 32 he has 2 make NINE moves, just to mention...
None the wiser...
He shouldn't have gone with the h pawn sacrifice. He needed just to move his bishop and king around and burn moves.
his bishop is kinda trapped, it cannot join any attacking tactics, but also cannot defend as his king-side pawns were in light squares

Stop being mean to ding 😢
Ian has been tyring so hard to take championchip from magnus and i want him to win but ding is so cute and im confused which one should i take for
Obviously, the one who deserves it. Cuteness has nothing to do with chess.
@@siddhantjhaveri but but :( damn it your right
Im 1,100 so I like chess but I don’t have the board memorized well enough to follow what they are saying. I still have to “think” about where D4 is and G6 etc…. Maybe I should take time to study it. Given its a grid it can’t be too overly difficult.
The point is not to learn the squares.
The point is that once you've studied ches enough, every square MEANS something.
I'm not strong myself, but I know that - for example - f7 is white without having to think about this, because this is a weak spot that often gets attacked by white's light-squared Bishop. So of course it's white, and I know where it is on my "mental map".
Of course d4 must be black, because I remember how Black tries to undermine this square in French defence (and similar pawn structures), and they would use a dark-squared Bishop, or put their Queen on b6 (also black), and I've got it well located on my "internalized" grid etc.
After a while you kind of know all your squares by heart, but not because you've memorized them by sitting and trying to do so, but because they each of them has a role in the game, and they tell a story, and they're related to eachother in specific ways.
It's as if you had a very cluttered desk and I were to take a look at it.
To me it's just chaos and I can't see anything, but you would see immediately where everything is, what is missing, if anyone has touched this stuff etc. because you're familiar with the overall landscape and the usual contents that fill this landscape up.
lichess coordinate training is nice for learning all the squares. Or just writing down or speaking aloud your moves as you play them in your games you'll learn them all pretty quickly and start to have feelings towards every square :)
@@vibovitold well explained. Thanks
@@vibovitold I don't even think the colour of the square is important in chess. But as you mentioned we should understand the significance of the sqaure and then we can remember it's coordinate easily.
Why did you not play all the engine moves, were you disconnected? 😂
The stage is too big for him.
If Ding had the experience and emotional maturity Ian has, Ding would have won🙂
:c
Chess hurts, man.
GO CHINA
Why do they make them do this shit
I like that Nepo said "white is winning" and not "I was winning"
To be fair, it seems fairly common and practically a standard when discussing chess positions.
Dont like this kind of interview. It seems like roasting. Asking by reading the question seems unnatural. Why not just do like upbuiiding ones.
FIDE's lack of empathy for players is almost criminal and is certainly the cause of Ding's crack. An example of this cynicism is this indecent press conference. Magnus was right to drop them. FIDE does not represent the interests of players
Why is Bruce Lee playing chess?
there is over a billion chinese people and bruce lee is hong kong not chinese. why you don't ask some russian guy for nepo?
He was afraid that his family would be executed ...or somethin
Chess used to have real characters - Capablanca, Fischer, Spassky, Tal, Kasparov - these guys had personality. Now we get the tepid Ding, the perpetually annoyed Nepo, the cold, sleepy, man of few words Carlsen. Boring! I want Hans Niemann! At least he has character!! Listening to these two guys is like watching paint dry!
Agreed 100% johnny
He shouldn’t have looked around and wasted 2 minutes before ..1.e6.
He’s trying to seem so modest and objective but playing so slowly is in itself a type of mind game which ultimately bit him in the ass. You can’t blame him after it worked so well and he played like an engine in game 6 using all that time…
But go watch how he’s pretending to think before playing …1.e6 just to be annoying and try to scare Nepo. He’s acting like some Martyr genius and that is his oxymoronic ego trip.. he can act modest all he wants … annoying behavior nonetheless. He knew he would play 1.e6… maybe if he would have spared us this looking around before move 1 he would have had 2 minutes to calculate his dominant position when he froze.
I don't think it's right to make the players talk about their game right after it has ended. It's like your dog just died how do you feel about that? Let them come to you when they feel like talking. And the worst thing is that they are obligated to do the speech or they get fined. Only person who is able to blow off these interviews is Magnus because he's number 1 and could care less about the penalties. That's another reason he vacated the title.
