When I try and do this with Missouri it doesn't let me separate the letters for individual colors, what am I doing wrong?

Make a copy of the image, then choose contour. Contour out each letter one by one :)

So I'm using a ipad and I wont give me a option for the thicker letters... is there anything else I can do??

For the states? There are images available! Or you can contour them. Just make sure the image is selected and then choose contour

why didn’t you make registration marks so it was super easy to line everything up? You said yourself you changed things several times, yes you did because it was impossible the. way you approached this to line up the colours and the outlines accurately. I thought you were going to show us a technique of how multi layer accurately.

Great suggestion. I don’t like registration marks because of the waste of material. I’m okay spending a little time lining them up since you can reposition them ;)
