the last bit when he thinks hes being an entertaining rascal then realizes "him and what army" HAHHAHA his expression is classic "sorry mam.wont happen again"
richard basehart was a great actor and a good man with his foundation for animals and pets a very wonderful person and a great soul thank you for your movies richard rest in peace love you forever
Richard Basehart should have won Oscars years ago. With Richard Widmark in 'Time Limit', Gregory Peck in 'Moby Dick', and Anthony Quinn in 'La Strada'. Why he wasn't given one either during his life or posthumously for his parts befuddles me. It's a shame people only know him as Admiral Nelson on 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea'. People should look up his filmography and watch his other works. Great actor who was underrated by his peers...
BEAUTIFUL MAN BORN VERY SOON IN 1914 GREAT ACTOR HE SLEEP FOR ETERNITY IN WESTWOOD MEMORIAL PIERCE BROTHERS IN L A IF YOU GO TO THE PLACE PLEASE THINK ABOUT RICHARD AND PRAY VISIT HER LITLLE GRAVE IN THE GARDEN FOR HER 40 TH MEMORY 1984 2024 LOVE YOU RICHARD GOODBYE MR APPLEWOOD THANKS
Thank God all my horrible teachers weren't THAT bad. I've had my share of teachers that hated me for no good reason, I'm glad they couldn't do what this creepy guy did.
@Coullion43 Most definitely. in addition to his extraordinary acting skills, he also possessed one of the most distinctive and powerful voices ever heard films or television. RIP.
@Heylilvelvet He's talking about "the law of teaching" (his own law, basically): From 1:34 to 1:53, he says: There must be order, there must be routine, there must be rules, and those rules must apply to all students. You cannot alter those rules, you cannot change that order (here, order meaning strictness, regulation). I must have order! He's emphasizing "order".
I love looking up the actors who play the bit parts in these episodes. It's funny who you find. The actor playing Herman is Joe Lee Mickins from True Blood!!
Kind of interesting the way Mr Applewood was portrayed in this episode, as his actor, Richard Basehart actually did play Hitler several years before. Charles is the freakin man though. You don't screw with him!
@tvjunkie1976 Yep! Cooper Huckabee. He didn't age well at all. My mother doesn't watch it, but when he was a guest on there, she kept saying she didn't know why, but he kind of looked familiar. And she watched Little House when she was a kid, and I told her about his guest appearance on here as Herman, and she said you could have knocked her over with a feather, because she never would have known let alone guessed it.
I argree in all of ur points! For Harriet her kids r ALWAYS well behaved no bad things 2 b found. U know what's even worse than being a bad student? Ass creeping into d teachers back inviting him over 4 dinner, just 4schmoozing over her own kids, especially telling bad things about all d kids. I like Nels, good hearted person, nice & fair. Go Nels! I would've loved 2 see d right 1s punished aswell Nelly, Willie & Herman -> corner, Teacher -> fired b4 he could resign n bad resumee 4 future!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MAN BEAUTIFUL BODY BEAUTIFUL HAIR MMMBOY I LOVE YOU RICHARD HOW DARE YOU ENTER IN MY MIND BEAUTIFUL MAN ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
In this day and age, I doubt the army would take him. There's been a crackdown on bullies in the workplace. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.
@Heylilvelvet something about how i must have orders maybe it was just the way he said it with so much anger and at 2:33 he said my resignation will be on the desk in the morning
When a trouble maker gets embarrassed, he straightens right up. Can't play to the crowd, why bother? But teachers today need to be a consistant mix. (not like Applewood--he was a psycho) but they need to be 1 part hard ass and 1 part softie. If you think kids aren't the most important part of your profession and not the 2-3 months off---stay the hell out of the class room. If you're not going to regularly enforce your kids to do their best and not disrespect their elders--don't have kids!
@Katahdinlover2 I went to a school in first grade that went from 1st grade to 8th all in one room LOL I lived LHOTP at least in school and the teacher was kinda like miss Beadle lol.
what did applewood say at 1:51 that made everyone have that look on there face at 1:53? and what did he say at 2:33 also? and i wonder where he went to...

richard basehart was a great actor and a good man with his foundation for animals and pets a very wonderful person and a great soul thank you for your movies richard rest in peace love you forever
The actor who played the troublemaker looked more like an adult than a teenager
He MUST have order?! Look at him when he says that! This fool was crazy and was in no position to teach any children in any kind of situation.
See, Miss Beadle should have stuck it to 'em and demanded another $1 per week salary.
This teacher should had won an Oscar for his acting.. He is really mean and scary!
hahaha school of the board's probably thinking, "...crap, we hired a psycho."
He lost control and they seized it.
Richard Basehart was a great actor could tackle anything always gave a great performance
Richard Basehart acts the bastard teacher brilliantly - hes scary! Good ep.
Thé house looks so homely at night with the lights and door open.
Mr. 'Crab Applewood' is a sadsadsadSAD excuse of a teacher. He needs to go to anger management!!!!
Scary teacher ! He shouts all the time ,is red with angerness. And he thinks he can help children and make tem at ease. HES MAD COMPLETLY MAD..A TYRANT

FALLING IN LOVE
I'm with ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Applewood is like a male Umbridge
I hate both of them.
yep goes to show that he was fired from those jobs
Super awkward smile at 5:35
It's like he knows he did something wrong and is trying to pretend he didn't
Thank God all my horrible teachers weren't THAT bad. I've had my share of teachers that hated me for no good reason, I'm glad they couldn't do what this creepy guy did.
Emotional abuse is pretty long-lasting.
@Coullion43 Most definitely. in addition to his extraordinary acting skills, he also possessed one of the most distinctive and powerful voices ever heard films or television. RIP.
I wanna live in walnut grove and marry miss Beadle.
The look Nellie gives him at 5:44 could stop a train in its tracks!
Nellie needs a good spanking.
those math problems at the end were harder than mine were in 5th grade. those math problems would take me hours to figure out

Damn. What happened to this guy in his childhood? Haha.

It's like, Dolores Umbridge in a previous life. And in a guy's body ;P
Wow, kids from 1st grade to 10th+ are all in one class!!
It's a small village.
@Coullion43 Yes! Voyage to the bottom of the sea! Someone who is actually old enough to remember that show.
well seems like he gets a kick out of everything being in order. why didnt he just join the army?
In this day and age, I doubt the army would take him. There's been a crackdown on bullies in the workplace. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.
Herman kinda sorta looks like a young Richard Gere. Something about the eyes.
You will follow zeee orders,i am your leader.
@Heylilvelvet something about how i must have orders maybe it was just the way he said it with so much anger and at 2:33 he said my resignation will be on the desk in the morning
Love you Charles
Dolores umbridge!

@1mnmfan what does that mean when he says about the resignation at 2:33?
I completely agree, he has gone absolutely insane I think something must of happened to him in his early life to make him a bit unhinged in the mind
@giocurve I agree.
@1mnmfan ahh ok. in some ways i felt so sorry for him. and in some ways im glad he left. sigh...
