    Matt! I have not had a chance to watch the Apple conference video yet, so I appreciated your recap with what was important to you. The way you explained it, I can now see that after folks start using the new phone, it will start to become clear what is being offered and how it will make our technology life much easier and more efficient. We will see how much effort it will take to learn how to use all the new features, but Apple is known for being intuitive and providing training. I have an iPhone 8, so there is no question that I will be getting the new phone if my current phone can make it to the Fall. I have been pining away for the iPhone 13 mini that I was not able to get due to short supply after they discontinued the model, and I know they said they will not be making any more minis, but I hope they will have a small footprint option. Thanks again for the useful video!

    AI for consumer devices (smartphones, PC's) is not going to shorten refresh cycles or drive growth IMO. Enterprise is who will spend for AI, which mainly benefits semis and hyperscalers.

    This is really mind blowing. Just a lot to take in and you know this is just the early stages. It’s why you buy n hold Apple, not to mention a quarterly dividend.

  • @vernearase3044
    @vernearase3044 Před měsícem

    I too am an Apple stockholder and am excited by the refresh cycle Apple Intelligence is likely to drive (and possibly all the Android converts it will attract).
    If this works as well as examples demonstrated in the keynote - and I have no doubt that the examples given are things that have been achieved at Apple development using personal context and symantic indicies - this can really drive users of older iPhones to upgrade sooner than they would otherwise as well as attract users from other platforms.
    Apple Intelligence looks like it will be the inflection point on the practical application of AI - not shoot-for-the-moon attempts at AGI, but rather smaller more certain inferences which can be counted on to produce accurate results and not startling hallucinations.
    Apple Intelligence will almost certainly be the model others will copy - and as the originator Apple will have a head start on the competition.
    So much of Apple's software and hardware model are right for this revolution including the Apple application front end UI/back end execution engine which allows for scripting but can also be used to command applications in an action model which could make Siri the personal assistant it always _should_ have been.

    • @mattderron
      @mattderron  Před měsícem

      I agree the "practical" applications of AI will be the most powerful for the end consumer (enterprise is a different story I think) and what they need is more an evolution of things we understand and do as opposed to some outsized new innovation IMO

    Apple will grow at its own pace, as it has always done. I'm willingly and happily captive of the ecosystem, hooked since they released the iPod touch 😂. The stock has been "overpriced" for years (like MSFT), yet it keeps climbing and I believe that it will continue for many years. Congrats on holding on to it recently, without listening to the negative noise 👍

    Matt there is another large advantage to Private Cloud Compute. It won't show up as additional revenue, but rather as cost savings. The two largest expenses for an AI data centers are expensive servers from Nvidia and the cost of energy to run these power hungry servers. Private Cloud runs on Apple's own silicon which is far more energy efficient. Most importantly the data centers run on renewable energy. The sources are principally solar and wind.
    This means Apple won't be dependent upon electric utilities to acquire additional energy. If needed Apple can add their own capacity increase. The utilities are licking their chops in anticipation of data centers around the world needing more energy and to a world where demand outpaces supply. Obviously the utility companies will use this as an excuse to increase rates. Apple will avoid this additional expense by running as many large language models in their own Private Cloud.

    • @mattderron
      @mattderron  Před měsícem

      This is a good point, currently that demand isn't there (the features aren't available yet) but we know it will be, so it will reduce future costs, allow them to have more control, and even a slight selling point (we're the most private provider) in addition to any future monetization options for Private Cloud Compute.
      That's a really good point, thanks for bringing it up!

    Matt, Stockholm syndrome.
    But I guess Apple is a nice prison to be held into, and to be honest, MS has been doing the same.
    Have you noticed:
    We cannot "buy" anything anymore, we can only 'rent' services. It is a bit like the serf feudal society where The landlord owns all, and the peasants pay forever.
    Curiously the colour orange comes to mind here... LOL.
    aapl up 18% here , happyyyyyy.

      @@mattderron Apple still has exposures in DOJ and regulators as well as a supply chain rooted in increasingly aggressive mainland China (as well as threats to Taiwan where TSMC produces their high end chips).
      Every time China has demonstrated investor hostility, Apple has doubled down on it's investments there.
      As far as I'm concerned, Apple _should've_ been moving manufacturing of non-Chinese targeted devices and supply chains out of China into safer non-BRICS countries - but I think Tim Cook made his bones by moving everything to China and he has a blind spot there.
      If China invades Taiwan expect Apple devices to get a _lot_ stupider for at least five years - but then everyone else's will as well.
