Bardock is a low-class Saiyan warrior, the husband of Gine, and the father of Raditz and Goku. He makes his debut as the titular protagonist of the 1990 TV special Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku. Bardock's childhood until his early years in adulthood is unknown, but he is shown to lead his own squad into battle, and they are very successful in accomplishing their assignments. He is an adept fighter and a devoted Saiyan Army soldier under the Frieza Force until he realizes his tyrannical boss plans to annihilate the Saiyan race.

No he didn’t. Goku was originally sent to earth in a mission to destroy it. Grandpa Gohan found baby Goku when he landed on earth and raised him. Goku fell from a cliff and hit his head changing his destructive nature to a kind one

That's old enough for you to remember and miss your parents. And you would hate me for life! Goku wasn't a destructive Saiyan, he just wanted to get back to his mom and dad. 🙁

@@Yeager_Editz However, Raditz insists Goku is instinctively a savage in the original continuity. You're referring to that George Lucas style prequel/sequel series which isn't faithful to the original material and changes everything.

Their power level were measured at birth and that stick with them along with the rank.
I'm surprised Raditz was never mentioned in Bardock: The Father of Goku.

In DBZ, Kakarot was sent to Earth because he was assigned to later destroy the Planet.
In DBS, Kakarot was sent to Earth because Bardock got chills about Frieza and pulled a Superman and sent his son to Earth.

@@menace2388 firstly it won't since the story was a Toei made and Toriyama mainly provided altered designs after seeing Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru's original design of Bardock and his gang. And since retcon is changing the already established story this isn't the case here and the Broly and Minus movie's depiction of the events along with Granola the survivor's events are all canon to the story as this version of Bardock was written by Toriyama himself.
Also to support why the original Bardock is non-canon is because Bardock's vision of Goku facing Frieza is canonically incorrect due to Goku first meeting Frieza in his final form and the ova being made beforehand. The reason why this Bardock was included was mainly that Toriyama was moved by his design so he was included.

It fits better with Toriyama's original manga and its narrative that Goku is an outcast missionary.

Bardock is definitely one of my favourite characters in all of the DBZ lore
That's pretty much all of the information on Bardock. The only other thing I'd add is that Bardock was stated to be an upper low level warrior. He was also well liked among fellow low class Saiyans. What's a bit odd is that his son, Raditz, was actually stated to be a mid class Saiyan. Or at the least was of the same rank as Nappa. This was all stated by Akira Toriyama.

I always thought his character was pretty unique the fact that he wasn't created but creator of dragon Ball himself do you want to make Goku a lot more like Superman you know make his father a scientist or whatever but he never got the chance to until many years later I love the fact that in the movie he was a lone survivor trying to take a chance to save his Doom planet and died seeing the future that his son would become the one who would avenge his people and then dragon Ball super broly came around the workaround was different but we got to see Goku's mother so I don't hate it at least you got more out of his life.

Bardock and jor el, superman's father share a similar story. Bardock was a low class saiyan mercenary and jor el was a scientist.Both men sent their sons to earth in order to protect them from the destruction of their home planets
