UK - 1969 Smile were a London-based blues rock band best known as the predecessor to renowned rock band Queen. The band was formed in 1968 by Brian May, who went on to become Queen's guitarist
@@zjow4755 I thought it was him too, back in 1982 when I bought Gettin' Smile. But we know Brian went on to do lead vocals on some of his early Queen songs too.
Maybe. Both bands formed about the same time so it's kind hard to attribute the sound to one or the other. More likely, you're hearing influences both took from somewhere else.
I bought the Japanese vinyl import Gettin' Smile in 1982, and the Ghost Of A Smile CD in 1997. This is 100% from the CD, as indicated in the picture above.
@@zjow4755 Sounds, New Musical Express, Melody Maker and Record Mirror used to have advertisements from companies selling records, which is how I bought most of my Japanese Queen singles. I think Queen Fan Club mentioned Gettin' Smile too. But I got my album at HMV. It had a paper sash around it. I can't remember now if "Queen" was printed in English on it, but it was probably printed in Japanese. The album title, plus Doin' Alright (not Doing All Right, as with Queen) and songwriting credits on the back were ample proof it was Smile.

Love Brian's vocal on this. As warm as hands around a nice cup of tea.
thats the most britisch thing ive heard in my life
To me, his voice is so beautiful that I don't have words to describe it, but this comes pretty close!
Smile.
They were good, then Freddie joined and the rest is history
Brian's vocals are so soft and pleasant

@@emmet_guitarist Brian did lead vocals on this one, and you can hear Roger's backing vocals on the chorus too.

Beatiful song.

I missed this song
Brilliant song to be sung forever.
I absolutely adore this song. Wish it were available as an MP3.
I can imagine being a record company scout and saying "They're good, but just not ready. They're missing something. What could it possibly be?" lol.
They're missing something.... Maybe....- *SoMeOnE?!?*
No joke the record label Smile signed onto was literally called Mercury Records

Hearing some Led Zeppelin in this one

This is from the 1997 dutch rerelease or the japanese original?
most likely the Japanese original

Brian may
Who are you and why are you in my recommendation
This is Queen before Freddie joined
How did this even get in your recommendation?? 😂
This band aint a duo if you see the the names there's three of them the lead singer is tim staffel a old friend of brian roger and Freddie
Ja, ist gut aber "Queen" ist besser.
These songs are great, I wonder if smile will ever reunite 😁
