    Thanks for this - so helpful. Expecting my first baby in winter this year. The moral of the story seems to be: get the basics, but wait until the baby arrives to buy extra things as you need them based on how well your baby sleeps, lifestyle etc.

    The motion breathing sensor (although it was a different kind than yours) saved my daughters life! I’ll be forever grateful to Ange Care for it and used it then until she was 18 months, never had t going off randomly (other than when we lifted her out and forgot to switch it off 😂) Couldn’t imagine not having it with other children

    I am twenty years old, sat in my Stokke chair until I was 16. Then, my mum had a surgery on her back and for the last 4 years, she has been sitting in it because it was the only chair her back did not hurt after surgery. The Stokke chair has been a chair for the whole family and we still love it

      Gabi Goddard the Stokke chair is marketed as being able to support an adult. The tray comes off and it can be adjusted to hold an adult. I still don’t really advocate for them, though .. I don’t think they are that comfortable as an adult, and they are priced like an adult chair.

      @gabi watson you can remove the wooden piece to put your feet on, lower the Seat and remove the thing that goes in front of your belly and between your legs. When you do all that it is basically just a regular dining chair. I dat on mine until my parents moved home at my 17th.

    The IKEA highchair is amazing!! Can’t recommend it enough! It’s so cheap, cleans so easily and the legs are detached so your able to take to grandparents or friends houses. The removal insert is also great I even take this out with me and use in the wooden highchairs you find are in most restaurants to give my son extra support.

    I loved the sleepyhead! We co-sleep with our daughter and it was a godsend. She would fall asleep as soon as we put her in it. It gave her extra space and we felt very safe with her sleeping next to us. The only down side wild be that she grew out of it by 5 or 6 months. She is quite a big baby and there is no way she would last in it until 9 months.

    We love love LOVE our Baby Jogger Summit X3! We've had ours for five years and two kids and it's still going strong! And we haven't been gentle with it at all, we took it off roads, up and down mountains over tree roots and rocks and boulders, cobble stoned streets, open fields, mud, rain, sand, gravel..... It's always a smooth ride for parent and baby.
    It folds easily and the storage space is AMAZING! And you can easily steer it with one hand. And the sun canopy is the biggest I've seen yet on a stroller.
    Amazing all around. I don't have one single complaint about this stroller.
    It does weigh a bit more than your common buggy, but that's good, because it means it's really durable and it won't tip over when you run with it around a curve.

    Exersaucers are a MUST for babies becoming mobile! Perfect to sit them in and keep them entertained while you get stuff done, but also good for them to learn how to play with you near them but not doing the entertaining!

      @lauren8627 Před 6 lety

      Sitting or propping babies in things when they cannot sit up by themselves is not recommended anymore. It's not good for spine development. Better to be on a blanket on the ground apparently.

    The Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo sticks out in my mind (my daughter will be 3 on Dec 1). She LOVED it! Hi Fleur, things I loved and found super useful (especially making the transition from one to two children):
    Bugaboo Donkey is GENIUS. Can fit one or two kids in there and it just pushes like a DREAM. We live in the countryside too and it has no problems with gravel, grass anything as the wheels are like tyres!
    Babybjorn bowls, forks and spoons (and their bucket bibs) are a godsend when they start to learn to feed themselves.
    Britax Römer advansafix iv r car seat - is the new one they just brought out. fantastic as it goes from 9 months to 12 years - grows with the child!
    Hope this helps. X

    Another good use for the motion sensor pads on the baby monitor is if the toddler gets a bit older and you want to be alarmed if they get out of bed, especially in a big house! My mum even used it for one of my siblings, who is disabled . She'd need to know if he gets out of bed, so the motion sensor would give her the alarm if he didn't move in the bed any more :-)

      My Jewish Mommy Life I agree the price is expensive but when my son was a baby I definitely remember wishing my car seat had wheels cause he would always wake up when we connected to car seat to the prams frame, would never pay the price it is for it either

    • @phoenixbarnett1154
      @phoenixbarnett1154 Před 6 lety +2

      I think it also helpful if you are in a city environment where you get in and out of taxis or cars and buses so that you don’t have to try and fold a frame and put into a boot. Also if you have a small car I guess it means you don’t have a frame to fit in along with all the other things. Idk I think it is extortionate price however and a bit small but I can see the plus sides.

    • @evainbxl3116
      @evainbxl3116 Před 5 lety +3

      For us the Doona was a life saver, living in a city and changing cars (my husband dropped the baby at nursery with his car and I picked her up with mine) every day, we were able to be extremely mobile. Not having a frame in the boot is great when travelling or making big shopping trips. We always say that it was the best piece of baby gear we got, even if expensive, we got so much use out of it that it was worth it (our daughter is 2 years old and on the petite side, so she still fits in it and we use it when our parents have to take care of her, extremely handy). But of course every baby and family is different and their needs and preferences are different.

I find we clip our car seat onto the pram frame for convenience rather than lifting him out and putting him in the carry cot most of the time but obviously have to lift him out the car seat regularly so I’m constantly clock watching whenever we go anywhere... hmmm may sell what we have and replace it... thanks for making this video! Love this video. We had our first baby in June. 😀 We have the snuz pod and love it. I understand why it was not fully useful for you as it didn’t reach the height of your bed but for us it fits perfectly and for me as I am breastfeeding it’s an absolute god send as it means I don’t need to fully get out of bed every time she needs a feed which in the early days was sometimes every hour. I can just reach over and lift her out. It’s also super lightweight to move downstairs for through the day. 😀 x

      Honestly, just ask them what they would like. Everyone has their own personal style and wants or needs as well as being gifted or bought things already. If they say anything you want, go buy them clothes in a larger size ( like a 0 or a 1) of things that are always needed; hats, singlets, T-shirt’s, pants, socks, swimwear or sleepwear or plastic eating and drinking utensils or even drink bottles. No idea how many drink bottles we have been through and my son is three next week (or sun hats. They grow legs honestly). Everyone always buys small sizes forgetting that babies grow so quickly out of them so parents don’t have time to enjoy the gift.

    I have a 15 month and a 19 month old right now, so we have phased out of the baby baby gear and are in toddler land now! Our must haves are suction bottom bowls and plates, and we absolutely adore our Clek Fllo convertible car seats. We switched them both out of their Cybex infant seats around 1 year old, and they’ll be able to rear face in the Clek seats til 40lbs, and then use them forward facing until they’re big enough for a minimal booster/seat belt. If there’s one item it seems good to splurge on, it’s a good car seat that will last until you don’t need car seats anymore!

  • @tillysmith6563

    The sleepy head product I think is more commonly used or meant to be used for the baby to sleep in in your bed so that if you roll over in the night you wouldn’t crush or hurt her because you have it to protect her rather than her being in a cot

    • @tinyshinystar8458
      @tinyshinystar8458 Před 6 lety +5

      I was just coming to say this. I think it's meant for co-sleeping or in a standard full size cot to prevent them turning over or wriggling down

    • @purpledragonfly4
      @purpledragonfly4 Před 6 lety +29

      They shouldn't EVER be used in a cot or a bed. Baby should be on a firm, flat surface with no loose covers and on their back. Crib, travel cot or moses basket only. These products are NOT safe for a bed.

    • @tinyshinystar8458
      @tinyshinystar8458 Před 6 lety +20

      purpledragonfly4 their website literally says co-sleeping cot and bed transition, around the house and changing, and meets the British criteria for air permeability. Co-sleeping done properly is one of the best ways to sleep with a baby with amazing benefits for the whole family

    • @sarahlofts7421
      @sarahlofts7421 Před 6 lety +13

      Of course their website states that - they are selling a product! People think because reputable companies like John Lewis supply these items that they are safe to use. The sleepyhead is classified as a sleep positioner and not recommended for use unsupervised (therefore when parents are asleep). The lullaby trust strongly recommends that babies are placed flat on their backs, on a firm, waterproof mattress to reduced the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. It is a mother’s personal choice to co-sleep but she should have factual information to make that decision. Midwives and health visitors advise against the use of sleepyheads and all other sleep positioners/pods in the UK

    • @tillysmith6563
      @tillysmith6563 Před 6 lety

      purpledragonfly4 yeah it’s meant to protect the baby from being hurt when co sleeping and is a very popular thing hence why the product was made and especially to make it even safer

Don’t get everything most of these you tubers advertise find out what will work and what Might work, I’m two months away from giving birth and my doctor told me a lot of baby items are not needed cause every baby is different and most of the baby stuffs they don’t use for long .

    • @laurduncan
      @laurduncan Před 4 lety +14

      Totally agree. The first item she names she doesn't use because she has ANOTHER stroller/infant carseat solution. You don't need two at a time. I mean if it didn't work for her that's one thing..but she's talking about not using it because she prefers her other one. And why on earth do you need a bassinet and a moses basket and a sleepyhead, and I'm betting money the baby has additional places to sleep based on how many of these items she owns!

    I grew up in a family with 6 kids and we all had our own Tripp Trapp chair. We all started out with the little tray table on it and the in between te legs secure piece and then we used it with the little shelf and the big shelf for our feet. I remember our mom would check the chairs every Christmas and every birtday and sometimes she would put the shelves one setting lower. It was always a big deal because mom would say "Look! You have grown again!" and we would be so happy to be taller. The great thing about those chairs is that they are so adjustable that kids eat in a healthy position. A lot of 6 year olds are either too low or to high to the table and it's really bad for the growing process to sit in a bad position. The 4 oldest have all used their chairs until we were at least 16 and my two little brothers are in their teens but they still use their Tripp Trapp because you can take out the little shelf and use the foot shelf as the sitting shelf so you have a normal adult chair. We all put stickers on our chairs that we would get from friends or from notebooks and we'd hang self made braids on it. I have to say, it's a really great investment if you use it to its full potential. If I had kids, I would totally buy them Tripp Trapp chairs as well.

    The Stokke Tripp Trapps are so good! My sister and I had them when we were kids and used them until we were about 12 years old. Our parents saved them for us to use with our own children. I don’t have kids myself (yet) but I work in a kindergarten where we use them for most of the kids, and the grown-ups also use them if need be. They really stand the test of time, and are so durable! - I think most family homes in Norway have them.
