    Another great video! I would add two questions: How long has the company been in business and how long has the management been in place? A new, smaller supplier with experienced management might have the potential to be a good fit for a smaller product-based company wanting to grow their business over time.

    Hey Kian, great questions and good video. I have a follow-up question to Q10. Are there particular ways we can/should communicate when we're with the supplier in-person? Although I'm Chinese by descent, I don't know the language. Perhaps a quick video on in-person business ethics and quick communication tips is in order???

    Hi Kian - great video. Has anyone actually had success finding out which brands a factory supplies, who is their biggest customer, and products they are working on. In my opinion, as a buyer, I wouldn't be happy if this information was divulged about my business. I'd be interested to hear what others think. Looking forward to the next video.

      Hey Christina, great question, you can only really ask these particular questions once you have a decent relationship with your supplier and they want to support you, but it definitely wouldn't work if messaging through alibaba after the first order. But to your point, I also tell my suppliers don't share my information with any other buyers or display my products at your booth in the canton fair and they usually honor this. It's all about the relationship! 🤝

    Hey Kian, question - I have a supplier on my short list for a product. From what I can tell they also have their own product listing on AMZN. Any advice on how to work with your supplier who would also be competing with you with their own PL product? The category has lots of search volume and sales are spread across many brands who all seem to be doing good volume, so the marketplace seems wide enough, however, any advice would be appreciated.

    Great video but i think these types of questions is when your a big company, selling high volumes ( purchasing big orders ) but not a starter on FBA but thanks for sharing.

      Hey Abdul, yes I have to tailor the content to beginner, intermediate and advanced sellers, because there are sellers of all levels watching these videos, also if a beginner, it's important to understand the questions to be asking in the future as you grow your business and seek out the top suppliers. But the questions in this video which are still very important for beginners are as follows:
      Are you trading company or a factory?
      How many workers do you have in your factory?
      Which countries / brands do you supply?
      Do you supply any brands selling on amazon?
      Have you completed any 3rd party audits?
      Plus more in the video but these are very important for beginners.

    As far as asking suppliers which brands they supply, is this usually considered confidential information for suppliers? I personally wouldn't want my factories telling potential buyers that they supply my brand. As a follow-up to that, would you recommend telling suppliers not to ever disclose that they work with your brand?

      Great question Lisa! I'd say as soon as your product becomes profitable and you know you will continue to order this particular item then it's time to go. A lot of people don't realize that you actually save a lot of money by going to China in terms of the better pricing, offered new products, reduced sample costs etc you will get as a result of being there, as well as getting your manufacturers best service :)

      @@SourcingWithKian Thank you, Kian I got very passionate about sourcing after attending your speech at the European seller summit, a lot of insider sourcing people say that on Alibaba suppliers are marking up a lot compared to what you can obtain on the ground, some say they have 100% some say 20% what is your take on this?

      @@lisarusso6746 I think each case will be totally different but in general if you educate yourself on what is the market price for your product (by sending your detailed specification sheet to multiple suppliers) then you can get an idea of what is the market price and once you show your experience of this product to the supplier and your power as a buyer, then you will really get their best price. But if they mark it up it's because the buyer hasn't educated themselves on the real price so they can get ripped off! I need to make a video on pricing strategies 😄

    Very serious question that I'm sure alot can find helpful.
    Do you suggest doing a NNN agreement with a manufacturer before revealing your product to them?
    Or what do you recommend to do to protect my intellectual property from the factory stealing my ideas, designs and products, etc?
    Its stressful as it is to find a good supplier but its even more worrying that how can i move forward to sampling and deciding on the right manufacturer if I'm worried first about protecting my product. I'm really trying my hardest to protect my product so its not copied so i don't find it down the line on alibaba copied from someone else.🙏🙏

      I prefer not to use an NNN and instead build a long-term relationship built on trust. If you have a seriously innovative invention that is not just a slight modification of a product then I would protect it with not only an NNN but a design or utility patent in your home market as it's not your supplier you need to worry about copying you but the rest of the market which can buy your product and send it to a different supplier, in that case only a patent would protect you, hope that helps 🙏

    Hi Kian, do you know any sourcing companies/websites in Europe that is similar to Alibaba? Like I will contact the supplier and they manufacture it. I want it that way so we can save shipping costs. These days, sourcing from China is just so expensive.

    Will suppliers reveal new products that are designed/planned by their other customers? What assurances, if any, in reality, do we have that supplier will not prematurely divulge a design I was working on for example?

      Hey Wayne, yeah they will show you new products they are working on if you already have a business relationship with them, for example already placed an order with them. But if contacting them for the first time it's unlikely they share this information. If you don't want your supplier to divulge your information you can have them sign an NNN document and you can also design register or patent protect your product in your home market too 🙏

      Yeah purely depends on the product you're trying to source, normally the country of manufacture is determined by access to the raw materials of that product and skilled / low cost workforce. Taiwan tend to do more expensive, technical products

      Hey Wayne, yeah they will most likely share this information with you if you build up decent rapport with them, but you can also see this kind of information on their alibaba listing, so you can analyze their company profile there 🙏

    Thanks for this eye-opener. But l would like to ask if it is safe to communicate with the sales rep via Whatsapp? mostly I have encountered this every time l make ane inquiry the sales rep direct me to get in touch via this social media channel

      Hey Julius, yeah whatsapp is still fine but make sure that all the important order details like price, delivery date, specifications are also confirmed by email so there's a record of it there too. Furthermore, if using Alibaba trade assurance make sure those details are also in Alibaba messages just in case you need to make a claim, alibaba will only make a refund if the order details are in their platform.     You can't ask Chinese suppliers all those questions. They simply won't answer them. They either don't know what you're asking because they use a translator or they don't feel like answering.
    You're lucky to get basic questioned answered like what is the packaging like.

      It depends on the quality of supplier you are talking with, if you are communicating with a reputable factory which you can find in this process - czcams.com/video/dNblHken6rc/video.html - then you're likely to get good answers from them. But if you're dealing with middlemen and shady agents then you'll never get good answers - best of luck 🙏

      @@SourcingWithKian I've dealt with all kinds of suppliers, most are extremely difficult to communicate with. Reputable suppliers are no better at communicating than the shady ones who "can't ship to Amazon".
      And by the way, that should be the 1st question anyone asks a supplier, "Can you ship to Amazon?" whether they sell FBA or not. Because if they can't ship to Amazon it means they're on some list of bad suppliers. It means they are selling counterfeits or they're just plan shady.

      They usually always have a sales rep who does speak English and can communicate well, if they don't communicate well then it's best to find a new factory since there can't be any margins for error! 👊

      Thanks for your message and good point, I'm sure the manufacturers are happy to supply anyone no matter where you're located provided the communication is very clear. Suppliers always love working with new clients in new locations :)
