  • This video explains how to analyze a continuous beam when two supports are sinking, also known as double sink, problem is analyzed by moment distribution method. In this problem modulus of elasticity (E) and moment of inertia (I) values are given, we need to convert both the values in appropriate unit system, once we done with conversion of units for E and I. next step will be to calculate fixed end moments and this is the step where we need to include the sink or settlement given in the beam. If right side support is going downward than sign convention for considering sink is negative and where as if right side support is at the top compared to left side support than settlement is considered as positive. In next step we calculate distribution factors (DF) and with the help of DF we achieve final moments, here bending moment diagram and elastic curve is also shown at the end of the problem.

Moment Distribution and Kanis Method sign convention is same for Delta but for SD method its different, correctly remember and solve for your exams, all the best
