    Our transatlantic cruise went from New York to Southampton, England, and the weeklong voyage offered seven days full of activities on this lovely ship.

      We have done about the same amount of crossings as you but had to stop during the pandemic as it takes us three days on Amtrak to get to the ship and we didn't want to risk turning up with covid and then being turned away. Its frustrating as its the only way I can cross the Atlantic to see my elderly father. Can't wait until they stop making us test beforehand.

    My wife and I were aboard this same cruise. Our first time on an ocean liner (after many cruise ship experiences) and our first time to cross the Atlantic by ship. You managed to take advantage of many venues that we did not, so it's nice to see them in this video so we can plan ahead for a future crossing. My wife and I both laughed when it seemed that you just walked aboard. We got to the terminal around 1130, and it still took over 2 hours to get processed. Very long lines! But, after a nice evening on board, all that was forgotten. We did the full formal dress thing on both formal nights (Tux, evening dress, etc.) We packed a second, large, suitcase with all of our cruise clothes and took advantage of the service provided (at a cost) to return that luggage directly to our home while we travelled through the UK with only our backpacks of easy wear. They met us at the exit to the ship and away went that BIG suitcase with all the fancy clothes. I also spent a lot of time with the Vets, several of whom were from my own era. A great group. Thanks for recording our memories!

    I loved my QM2 experience. The Commodore Club is my favourite spot. Queen Victoria was a similar experience but easier to navigate and get around as it’s smaller. I find I have to take too much clothing to conform with all of the standards, a pain if flying, men’s suits and blazers and size 11 business shoes almost need their own suitcase! I learned to take slightly less and just cop the laundry bill, free washing machines and dryers often full. If ever I went again I would skip formal night and save a lot of luggage space and just have buffet, red lion or room service instead that night, not worth lugging a tuxedo around to wear for 5 hours. Beautiful ships.

    Glad you made your first trans-Atlantic crossing! It's my favorite itinerary for all the sea days...... the ship is the destination, especially aboard Queen Mary 2. The Chart Room, Commodore Club, Queens Room are where I gravitate to. Public space layout is refreshingly different than a cruise ship. Those in-hull verandas are a great design. The space that is now Carinthia Lounge was originally the Wintergarden, a dull depressing under used room & the Kings Court is also a wonderful improvement.

      The ship was incredibly stable. One day near the end of the cruise, there was more movement from rough seas. A person prone to seasickness might have had a bit of an issue. But otherwise, very smooth.

      @chriswilliams6568 Před rokem +2

      The Cunard QM2 is the only cruise liner in the world and has a double hull to make sailings much more stable than any other cruise ship. Having said that we did a Princess sailing in early Sept. 2015 on the Caribbean Princess via N. Atlantic via Iceland and Norway, and it was not rough at all.

    • @paolodechipiece1027
      @paolodechipiece1027 Před rokem +3

      It depends on the sea conditions really. The Atlantic can be calm one day and change significantly another. We have crossed in huge swells in which any ship will move significantly. Its pot luck really. But QM2 is a liner and designed for such crossings.

    The ship is getting old and boring. Just came back from 16 days Cunard today. It degraded a lot. food quality and quantity BAD. especially at the Lido. Super short handed. It is at the Carnival cruise style. No dance host, no queens room Hostess, no professional dancer exhibition, etc. will not recommend for this price ( we are diamond on Cunard, not a newbie)

    It is depressing to see crew required to wear masks while passengers aren't. I do not know if masks are still necessary -- I'm not an epidemiologist and so I take no position one way or the other -- but I do know that crew members are not some subhuman species with a different infection profile than passengers. If masks are necessary, they are necessary for everyone; if masks are not necessary, they are not necessary for anyone. I don't know which is the case, but I know that what I see in this video makes me sick and angry.

    • @Airships
      @Airships Před rokem

      I agree. Either masks are no longer necessary, and Cunard/Carnival is abusing its employees by requiring them to wear masks, or masks are still necessary, in which case they should be worn by everyone. I don't know which is the case, but I do know that it makes no scientific sense to pretend that crew members and passengers belong to different species with different infection profiles. Either all humans on a ship should wear masks, or no humans need to wear masks.

    • @InTheLoopTravel
      @InTheLoopTravel  Před rokem

      Yes. As long as they are vaccinated, I suppose it shouldn't be required of anyone.
