  • Hungarian beef stew also known as hungarian porkolt is basically delicious beef goulash with red peppers but in Hungary is goulash soup. The stew is made with stewing beef, tomato, bell pepper, and a number of spices such as sweet paprika. Hungarian beef stew is best served pasta (tészta), tarhonya (big Hungarian pasta grains) or galuska/nokedli as a side dish.
    INGREDIENTS FOR HUNGARIAN BEEF STEW (Pörkölt)
    3 tablespoons lard
    500 g of onion
    1 kg of beef
    70 g of tomato puree
    1 teaspoon carraway seeds
    4 tablespoons of ground paprika
    1 teaspoon of hot pepper
    broth/water for basting
    2 peeled tomatoes
    1 bay leaf
    2-3 peppers
    4 cloves of garlic
    2 tablespoons of marjoram
    freshly ground pepper
    salt
