I remember living in Mahikeng in 1985 to 1987 it was known as Mafikeng/Mmabatho then. This anthem played on Bop TV every night at the end of transmission.
Fascinating! I was never a supporter of apartheid, but I will say, the Tswana people deserved a better deal than Nelson Mandela and his successors have given them!!!
Mangope should have engaged and said, "Yes, we'll rejoin but we must be our own province". That would have retained Bop's independent character. Alas, he held on just too long.
The fact that Apartheid South Africa was the only country to recognise this country's independence, whilst The U.N. urged other countries to *not* recognise their independence is ridiculously ironic.
Because that will give an impression that other countries are supporting Apartheid policies, since apparently Bantustans were made by the Apartheid South African government.
Souith Africa declared Bophuthatswana independent; Bophuthatswana did not declare independence. Different situation but this was the case with the TBVC states.
Because Independence for separate nationalities was South Africa’s idea People also forget that Apartheid was an improvement on what came before it and all of its worst aspects were already put in place by the British At least under apartheid blacks got something instead of having nothing under the British
@@jonathanwilliams1065 Yea ,the best aspect about apartheid (not that it apartheid is neccasarily good in any way shape or form) was that one some instances ,they got theire own countries with theire own flags and anthems in theire own language (as this video is displaying), basically one of the np (nationalst party)'s goals was to fix the issues that "the scramble for africa" caused (the making of borders without any regard of cultural or ethnical differences whatsoever), and because the party was ruled by Afrikaners ,there was an unfortunate prioritization of Afrikaners over the rest, which would be seen by most people as "racist towards blacks".
I honestly feel nostalgic for Boputhatswana despite being born after 1994, not Tswana or South African at all. The only thing I got common with South Africa is that I'm an Afrikaans speaker and I love the nation's history.
The flag of Bophuthatswana was beautiful. The dark blue background with the orange stripe and the majestic Leopard. It was a flag to be proud of.

Hello, I am interested in knowing what you mean. Please explain more😢 Oh what a beautiful time it seems to have been before 1994
Because it was apart of apartheid's segregation policy
Why would other countries not recognise this state especially since everyone pretty much hated South africa anyway?
Because that will give an impression that other countries are supporting Apartheid policies, since apparently Bantustans were made by the Apartheid South African government.
Because they were fools. It's easy to deceive a fool but very difficult to convince him he has been fooled!

At least not another Nkhosi Sikilele Africa copy-and-paste. Some originality.
It is a very nice melody.
