  • Tumbling River glass to make it smoother. All the glass was picked up along strings and rivers in Missouri.
    If you like rock tumbling, check out my two other rock tumbling videos: • Rock Tumbling Our Agat... and • Rock Tumbling - Tumbli...
    This is the style of the rock tumbler we use:

    I live in Houston and I pick up glass off our beach all the time. Mostly just broken beer bottles and I tumble them. I do find some sea glass and they are really pretty. I’ll be tumbling a bunch this week.

    I just did this with a few things from around the house. I love sea glassing, but this is a great second. Will start collecting junk glass on hikes. Thanks for the video.

    I just got a new rock tumbler and I think beach glass is so pretty. I have my first rocks fumbling now. I’ve wanted one since I was a kid. I can’t wait to see how they look.

    Great video and info. Thanks. I think the red glass may have been an old railroad lantern.

    what kind of sand and salt did you use? Do you think it would be ok to put glass pieces in the tumbler that may have a touch of oil on it..not much, just a drop or 2 here and there? or ok to add glass that has marker/sharpie on it? I assume it would be ok but wanted your opinion. Thanks

    • @80sToyHunter
      @80sToyHunter  Před 2 lety +1

      I think a little oil would be find because the salt and sand and water will help negate the oil. I just used whatever decorative sand I had on hand. I think it was vase filler sand from the craft store. I'm big on using whatever I have. I also just used some leftover rock salt that was in my kitchen (used for ice cream making at one point). Next time I tumble, I would just buy sand from the hardware store.

      @@80sToyHunter thank you so much for the quick reply! I thought so too but wanted your opinion. I'm expanding my glass sun catchers and small panels to include small melted kiln pieces and tumbled glass scraps so that I have zero waste! Plus I can recycle and reuse things around the house or finds along the way =)

    I live in Michigan. "Great Lakes state. We have lots of "sea glass" on our shores. (less than years ago). However, our lakes are fresh water, NO SALT. I'm curious if you think the salt actually had any effect

    • @80sToyHunter
      @80sToyHunter  Před 3 lety +2

      The salt can leech into the glass and give it a different texture, basically a chemical experiment.

    Why put the tumbled glass in an enclosed box? Why not display it in a glass jar?

    • @80sToyHunter
      @80sToyHunter  Před rokem

      Because I already have lots of glass jars on display. Just doing something different.

      My husband has had his forever so the labels have worn off. It looks similar to the Motel T Tumbler sold on popular outdoor supplier websites.
