    Funny I’m about to replace the HydroBoost on my express. I noticed a small leak, also noticed someone replaced the mast are cylinder with a cheap China one maybe for a vacuum assist setup not for the hydroboost. The brakes work but feel spongy. I replaced a leaking rear whee cylinder so that actually helped. I got a used oem master and HydroBoost from a junk yard, I figured I could rebuild them if need be. Thanks for the awesome videos!

      @VanwithTim  Před 3 lety +2

      Good question.
      Mine was leaking power steering fluid in the driveway, and I didn't want to risk losing my power brakes on such a big vehicle.
      You can usually determine a leaking hydroboost by wiping your finger underneath where the master cylinder and the hydroboost bolt together.
      If there's power steering fluid present, your hydroboost is leaking.
      If there's brake fluid present, your master cylinder is leaking.
      Thanks for the comment!

    • @VanwithTim
      @VanwithTim  Před rokem

      No seal there. Determine if it’s brake fluid or power steering fluid and that will tell you whether it’s the internal seal of the master cylinder or a defective Hydroboost. Sorry for your luck :/

    • @VanwithTim
      @VanwithTim  Před rokem +2

      Hi, the small o-rings go on the ends of the two power steering lines that thread into the unit.
      Your old ones may be fine but it’s recommended to replace them any time the lines are removed 👍

      Sorry for the late reply - are you talking about the spring and clip assembly I remove @9:13 ? If so, no need to worry about reusing this piece. It's not the cause of the leak.

      @@VanwithTimQuestion: I can’t tell exactly where the leak is coming from, since everything is covered in oil, but it seems like it’s in that general area…also, my brakes feel fine and there is no loss of brake fluid…but my power steering fluid is definitely leaking. Why would I need to replace the whole unit, instead of just a gasket or something?
